Excellent tour! We saw many whales and got majestic pictures. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and provided very colorful political commentary. Don’t hesitate! These are the best tours in Hoonah.

This was the second time that we went whale watching with Hoonah Travel Adventures. They always do a great job. Captain Paul is an excellent narrator and kept us constantly entertained with his stories of the wildlife, local history and commentaries. His crew mate Jonathan kept us safe. You would be crazy to pay more money and get less viewing opportunities on a cruise ship tour.

We had such a good experience with this tour company. Captain Paul was an excellent guide for the journey. He was so knowledgeable and personable. I knew within the first 15 minutes of the tour that we had gotten our money's worth on this whale watching trip and we hadn't even seen any whales at that point! It was really nice being on a smaller boat with less people. The boat was filled to capacity (about 30 people) and we were able to find great spaces to take pictures. Whenever there was an animal encounter, Captain Paul stopped the boat and we were allowed on the front and rear decks so we could take pictures. We saw a bear, multiple humpback whales, sea otters, and sea lions. The transportation from Icy Strait Point to Hoonah and back was on a comfortable shuttle bus. If you find yourself in Icy Strait Point, do yourself a favor and skip the cruise ship tours and book with Hoonah Travel Adventures. You won't regret it.

We booked our August 2023 excursion with them for whale watching.We had our 5yr old Son with Autism, they where wonderful with him & so accommodating. He had a blast! Captain Paul was extremely knowledgeable awesome captain! Very entertaining & the experience was amazing. We seen orcas (killer whales) plus seen the humpback whales (8to10 together) eagles, blue heron. It was a very adventurous day. We loved all the sightseeing we loved all the information that we got about Alaska, the different tribes, the whales and we learn things that we didn't even know about whales! It was a great experience definitely 100% would recommend. 10 out of 10!!! We will see you again in September 2024! Thank you 😊

I’m so glad we went with Hoonah! We had the best time with Captain Paul! We saw Orcas, humpbacks, otters, and much more. He was an amazing captain and had so many good stories to share about the land, animals, and way of life in that part of Alaska. I’ve already recommended this excursion to so many friends.

We sailed with Norwegian week of 6/17/23 and booked through trap adviser the night before with Hoonah Travel Adventures and highly recommend Denise and her crew. Timely, caring, safe, best whale watching experience by far, heated to thaw the cold away and a perfect size group for everyone to enjoy from all angles of the boat. Thank you again for an amazing experience.

Our family of 5 (including 3 teenagers) had an awesome time with this tour. Denise and Jonathan were incredible guides and provided a lot of background info and answered all our questions. The tour did not disappoint - went straight out to where there was a pod of humpback whales - 3 adults and a baby! The baby put on quite a show and breached multiple times so we got way more than we expected. We got to hang out with the whales for a while then went to see the sea lions and saw a few otters along the way. All in all an amazing tour and would highly recommend to anyone!

We did the whale watch tour through Hoonah Travel Adventures. Denise was our skipper and Christi was the cabin attendant. The boat was small and could hold 18 passengers which made for a more intimate feel. The interior of the boat was heated, and blankets were available.Within a few minutes of leaving the harbor we were in the thick of a humpback whale feeding frenzy. I can say with confidence that I've never been on a whale watch that has gotten me so close to a whale. I felt like the tour could have maybe been 1 hour longer considering the cost.

We took this excursion from Icy Point as it was only whale watching open since we booked late. Excellent choice. Had an amazing adventure seeing whales up close. Had no idea as they came up unexpectedly right by us. Saw seals and otters. The captain and co captain were excellent. Nice vessel as well. Thank you for an awesome excursion!

Stopped in Icy Straight during our cruise. This is my second year using Hoonah Travel Adventures. They are amazing. I chose this excursion for whale watching over one offered through the cruise ship because the cruise ship excursion stuffs people on a boat and your elbowing your way to get a look/photo and with Hoonah everyone is able to see. The Captain is a local and is very informative. We saw whales and plenty of them. I would book through them again! You won't be disappointed.

I highly recommend Hoonah Travel Adventure. We took the whale watching cruise and Paul was our Captain. What an outstanding experience! The whales put on a show, but Paul was very knowledgeable and made the excursion even more interesting with all the information. 5 stars!

Had a fabulous time whale watching. Found this your through Facebook as another tour was booked. The staff were wonderful. Shared a lot of history during the tour and many wonderful stories. We’re able to see seven different whales for just about the whole trip. Also saw porpoises, otters and an upclose encounter with sea lions.Boat was very comfortable and updated. Offered blankets to anyone that was cold. Had a viewing deck on the front and back and the enclosed sections had windows that opened wide for viewing and photo taking.

We booked just a few minutes before the tour in their office in Hoonah. The guide was knowledgeable and skilled as well as his crew. We saw so many whales and felt like it was very much worth our time and money! It was a highlight of our trip to Alaska. We didn't feel rushed or crowded nor did anyone get seasick! ű Would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!

Our whale watching tour with Captain Denise was awesomeShe knew just where to go to see whales. We saw a group bubbling a breach and a fin and tail slap. We were traveling with 3 kids and the smaller boat made it easier for them to get out on the bow and see them up close. I highly recommend this tour with Captain Denise.

We had an excellent experience with our whale watching trip hoted by Hoonah Travel Adventures. Out captain (Paul) provided a great deal of information about life in Hoonah as well as the habits of the whales. We were rewarded by some excellent whale viewing and all in all in was a great afternoon. Highly recommend this tour if you are interested in seeing the whales up close.

Hoonah Travel is well oiled machine.Captain Paul Comolli had us entertained not only by the awesome whale watching but also with his daring feats, life stories from out here, and the personally lived jaw dropping “old man and the sea stories”. Would come back just to listen to him tell some more stories and to explore further the gem that is Hoonah and these wild lands.

If your cruise goes to Icy Strait Point, be sure to book a whale watching excursion with Hoonah Adventure Travel. Our boat captain, Paul, was a wealth of knowledge about the local wildlife and did a great job navigating our boat out to some humpback whales. We also saw sea otters, sea lions and even a brown bear! The boat itself had comfortable bench style seats and was cozy enough inside the cabin so that we didn’t freeze.

Our boat captain, Denise, is a local. Super friendly, she shared stories of the heritage of the Hoonah area and of generations of her own family. She located whales, sea otters, sea lions, eagles, bear, and other wildlife for us. We could tell that she truly wanted us to have a great time and see as much wildlife as possible. Excellent excursion !

The whale watching excursion with Hoonah travel adventures was great. The captain knew where to find the whales. This was a smaller boat and had only 10 people for this excursion. The captain and crew were very knowledgeable of the area and the wildlife there. We got to see a bear coming out of hibernation and a family of humpback whales. Great experience seeing bears and whales in their own habitat.

My trip with captain Denise and kristy was so fun and engaging! Captain Denise shared stories from the native tribes and kristy helped identify animals. We saw orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, and and a few otters. There were many opportunities to take photos! Would recommend this to anyone coming to icy strait point or hoonah
