I watched couple go to liquor store and was asked for ID. Lady did not have so purchase could not be accomplished. They left store. He came back minutes later to purchase his items and refused. He asked when he could return and was she would be there all day. Ask how much time would have to pass before he could come back. I don’t know he was told. He asked if 2 hours would be ok. No was the answer. Loud and rude was his treatment. He cordially asked questions in a respectful manner.

only giving 3 stars although the staff are great, when i do my weekly grocery shopping, half the time there is never any milk or frozen foods. occasionally they sell certain chips and then all of a sudden they aren’t on the shelf’s anymore for at least a month or 2. drives me crazy.

It's good. Pretty packed full of stuff but not as much camping/outdoor gear as I remember from back in the day. Plenty of grocery options though. Most of the same things you could get if you were at a Safeway in Seattle plus a little more on the local necessities. There is a small liquor store attached as well.

Is what it is. Never seen a franchise store with a western union inside refuse to give you change for a $20 bill. This is the same store who cashes checks for people. So you know they have four $5 bills they can spare.

Your go to place, large variety even a gift area and a walk up made to order coffee bar.Friendly and accommodating staff. Meat department, deli and bakery my go to places. Fresh produce and flowers for your table, just the perfect touch.Not all great customer's have two legs! The cutest pets waiting for their humans outside.

Good selection of merchandise for the size of the town. Has a souvenir section & everything you need for a quick fishing outing or camping overnight. Reasonable prices considering all of Valdez merchandise is brought in.Friendly knowledgeable staff; Fresh produce, reasonable meat selection.

It is pretty much the only grocery store in town. They are well stocked but the prices are very high. Be prepared to not have sticker shock. The deli and bakery are really amazing

This is not the cleanest store at all anymore, the produce molds in as little as one day after you take it home, everything overpriced compared to the same stores in Anchorage and Fairbanks where they have competition, front end and overall management is lacking horribly, and the shelves are often bare due to poor ordering. Cant get attached to a product as it wont be there after the tourists leave and for kickers, they dont require or enforce masks wearing in any way, even though it is a local MANDATE!. But hey! It's the only regular grocery store we have so we are told to appreciate because at least we have one! If manager sees complaints online he chastises people and tells them need to come to him instead of publicly stating their opinions ....but nothing ever changes. Giving a 2 to be generous because there are some very good employees there also and want to give them a star at least.

I was visiting Valdez from Anchorage and upon checking out used the self checkout. My family and I were being racially profiled by the checkout attendant, she was very slow to help us and almost seemed like she didn’t want to. When she finally arrived she proceeded to count out the items we had in the bag even though the machine did not prompt her to do so, and she did not do this to any other customer who needed help. Awful customer service and she outwardly racially profiled us for being a family of color. I will never be returning here again and will be sure to share the experience with everyone.

This is just a store, however I had some of their crab and shimp salad. Oh wow. Super fresh and so tasty. That's why I gave it a 4

Fairly well stocked store; but grocery prices were generally higher at this Valdez branch compared to other similar Alaskan stores. Probably not done on account of the seasonal nature of trade in Valdez; but this store could be much more appealing with an upgrade.

We just received this unsolicited text request 15 minutes after visiting a Safeway Store. If we ever get another unsolicited text as such we will not patronize Safeway again. This is social media taking far too many liberties...Customers are fully capable to give reviews of their own volition and convenience.

They gauge you cause they are the only game in town. Sad. Try not to shop there, but sometimes am forced to. When I lived in Denver I shopped there regularly. I do admit their bagels made on site are good.

Not such a good experience. My friend and I went to the part where they sell liquor and beer. He got a twelve pack of beer and since we were walking he asked for a bag. The woman rudely suggested he should have brought a back pack instead. So the next day we went to get beer and she was there. He fealt akward about asking for a bag again so i said no worries i will ask for a bag next door in the main store. I asked the man at the check out counter and he threw his armes up in the air and said i have no clue if i can give you a bag!! He suggested i ask for a bag at my purchase in the beer and liquor part of the store. At this point i was done. I snatched a bag right infront of him any how.

You need to fill up here if you're heading to Valdez because there's not much else between Glenallen and Valdez. Lineups at the fuel pumps can be long some days. There's a Thai food truck on site as well as a drive through coffee shop, as well as a large convenience store and a burger restaurant. If you're heading towards Anchorage, this is also a good place to fill up because the next gas station is about 72 miles away.

This is not the best safeway I've ever been to, but it's far from the worst. The hours are good, the staff is friendly and helpful, and having Safeway in town makes living in rural Alaska considerably easier to handle.

They have a great variety given their location. Service has never been unpleasant. The only thing that would make this place better is even more variety.
