Best hardwares store I've ever shopped in. The staff are there to help, almost always without a wait. They have ordered items for me several times that they did not stock or have. Returns are never an issue.

Surprisingly good gun selection for a hardware store. If you're in the area looking for firearms and ammunition Johnsons is the place to go.

What a fantastic store! They have everything you could need. Calvin went the extra mile and even overnighted something for us during our vacation to the area. So impressed with the respectful and kind people there! Definitely deserve your business!

There is a new mechanic at Johnson. A nice young man who actually does his job in a timely manner. He serviced my lawn mower within the week after I took it up there and haven't had a problem with it since. Very impressed with the good work👍

I use this spot as a parcel pickup, for deliveries in the states. Very easy to work with!

Johnson’s True Value has 8, 1-star reviews.6 of them, including mine, are poor reviews of the small engine repair group. Unfortunately the rating of the entire store is affected due to that group owning 75% of the total 1-star reviews.I left messages for Dave and Vera asking to discuss this issue with me.They declined. The round, bearded, dark haired guy in the small engine repair group lets his fragile little feel bads interfere with his ability to make good decisions. He is likely responsible for all 6 bad reviews and is definitely costing the store money by putting his selfish and childish needs ahead of the customers’.He becomes quickly angered and, like a sophomoric cheerleader, goes into a hissy fit when his lack of knowledge is exposed. He refuses to further assist the customer and immediately runs off to his safe space leaving the customer alone…who came into the store intentionally to exchange MONEY for goods or services...the entire reason any business exists. How embarrassing for Johnson’s True Value that a person who puts his own fragile feelings over his employer’s success is even allowed to work there. This is the third time this person has given me attitude and caused me to leave and spend my money elsewhere.I bought all my small engine products from Johnson’s trying to help out by keeping our money local. It’s repair group was a big reason. Now I just buy parts online and do my own repairs. Today’s small gas engines require little intellect to understand. If a person must expect getting attitude and grief from staff, it’s easier to spend money somewhere else …with friendly staff who actually wants to be helpful.I will certainly rethink buying anything at Johnson’s True Value that might require counting on the small engine repair group for help. It has proven its inability to be helpful by owning 75% of the store’s 1-star reviews.

I ordered an Echo string trimmer through Johnson's True Value cause the one I wanted was not in stock. I ordered it on May 29th. They said it would be ready for me to pick up in a week. It is now June 23rd. I called and they said it would be another week or so. It has been almost a month and my mowing business is not as sufficient without a string trimmer. Will be going to Ace Hardware in Calais from now on.

Aplogies for the long story. I have been a customer of Johnson's since moving to this area, that is until today. I purchased a Husqvarna chainsaw a few months ago. My bar sprocket froze up and I bought another HV Xforce bar from them a couple of months later. Then the sprocket on the new bar froze up within 2 months and maybe 6 cutting sessions. I took it back and a nice lady exchanged it for me for another one. Well, you guessed it about 2 months later and the sprocket froze again. I took the $50 bar back today and the man in parts and repairs said it was pinched and that is what siezed it. It was not. I told him I was cutting super soft wood, first 3 cuts of the day. Then he said it was not getting oil. I told him each day I use it I fill the oil. He said it must be leaking out then. I keep the saw on a wood counter at home and there is not one spot of oil there. The saw does not leak. I asked him what do we need to do. He said I will have to talk to the manager who may do something. I wanted them to help me fix it. Or get me even another brand. I just wanted a working bar. He called the manager and said, well she just passed the buck to the owner. He called the owner, hung up, turned to me and said "no warranty on bars". I walked out leaving the hunk of junk behind. I went to Tractor Supply and they told me theirs had a lifetime warranty.... sold. So I will now be shopping elsewhere. These guys used to figure out a way to fix or educate on what they sell. Now it's just buyer beware. Honestly I can get that sort of transaction from a large chain or online. In fact those companies now stand behind a sale the way Johnson's used to. Sad day for me and for them. I used to shop there often and am in the market for a zero turn radius mower and a Generac generator that we saw on their floor, a loss for us both. But likely they do not care. Having a bad day, maybe, only game in town syndrome, absolutely.

Can't really get any better than Johnson's! They have everything! Service can be amazing or a little slow. So, don't plan to be in a hurry if you're looking for something special and don't know how to find it on your own.

Bit crowded with small aisleways and such, but it does mean there is a vast selection of items. The staff is always friendly and helpful.

Normally have what you need. But the prices are crazy high for most things. I'm talking 20 to 30$ more then what the sale price should be. But the people are nice and if it's something you really need and can't wait then I guess it's the place to go but if it's something you can wait to get them order online and save yourself quite a bit.

Never had a truevalue store try to grease me for 18% over value. I've had a few purchases that were questionably more expensive here than I've paid in wealthy areas of the country (true value stores) but if you're not stocking the size (but carry the product), you don't have to do anything but push a few buttons to make a sale, no extra shipping wares- why make it cost more for me, let alone 18%? Only reason i can see is they know it would be extra for shipping as an online purchase because of its odd size so they take advantage of their customer. I'd rather pay double on the internet and/or do all my shopping elsewhere. Way to perpetuate what you're trying to avoid 👏 👏Edit: Called Ace and without any additional information about my Truevalue experience they had the product ordered and priced the same as I expected. I guess not every truevalue provides their services to the locals- this one charges for it

Last summer I dropped off a rototiller and a weed whacker for repairs. A month later I called about a time frame for the repairs. I was told the weed whacker was done but waiting on parts for the tiller. So we rented a tiller and bright home the weed whacker. My husband started up the weed whacker and it immediately shut back off again (the same issue we had been having, so obviously not fixed). The tiller also shut off after starting up. Returned with both the next day where we were given a run around about paying the tiller rental. Here it is nearly a YEAR later and we still have not gotten our items back. Every time we call we are told we will get a call back which we never receive. We have bought many items at Johnson's over the years and always liked the products they carry but as a rental and small engine repair, they are terrible. I am so upset by the horrific service that I doubt I will buy much from them again.Edit: After finally getting ahold of a manager I was informed that they didn't think they would ever get the necessary part in for the weed wacker. We decided to pick it up and take it someplace else. They refused to refund our money.

Great place to find all sorts of interesting things. The old guys who work there always have good tips on how to do things.I like this store.Only downside for me is that I am in Canada, so it entails a trip across the border.Exchange rate and border taxcan make things pricier, so itdoes have to be really worthwhile.

Was trying to order a fuel pump for a lawn mower. First time the guy didn't know how to look up the part. Second time part got ordered. Went to pick up the part snd was told the part was shipped and order received the day before, but they couldnt find the part as somebody else put the order away. Got home and message left that the order was in. People working there are very disorganized and have no idea what co-employees do with parts. Perhaps more organization or knowledgeable about how to do things

LOTS of staff not wearing masks. No signs about the pandemic on the door. Probably Johnson's is one of the Calais superspreader locations wreaking havoc in Downeast, alongside Baileyville. Stop in today and get some of that COVID you've been missing!Won't be going here again.
