Wow! I cannot say enough good things about this gem. Picturesque views with the beach right out your door. Quaint, clean cottages equipped with everything you need so you don't have to leave the property unless you want to. (Note, you do need your own towels.) Our family (2 adults, 1 8yo, 1 2yo) had so much fun. Staff was incredibly accommodating and welcoming. We just got home and are already looking forward to going back! Side note: Had to take a business video call one morning and internet was great!Rooms: CleanNoteworthy details: High-speed Internet

Stayed here last year and again this year with our family of 4. We've been to multiple places in this general area over the years and the Blue Haven beach is the biggest & nicest in the area. Great Lake Huron view. The property between cabins is spacious & enjoyable too, with multiple fire pits & activities to enjoy. Big bonus this year... The cottages have been totally remodeled; new floors, paint, bathrooms, showers, and other furnishings! My guess is any negative reviews were from prior to this. Looking great & made staying here a pleasure. We'll be back!

I’ve been to several resorts along Lake Huron and Blue Haven is the clear winner. We split our large family between two cabins and both were tidy and comfortable with lots of unexpected upgrades- newly remodeled bathrooms, fresh paint and new flooring to name a few. Also unexpected- the decor in our cabins was adorable! Blue Haven really is all about the property though, the beach is deep and wide, and the shoreline remains shallow enough for quite a distance, and my kids found so many unique activities to pick up in the grassy commons area between cabins. Reservations, check in and check out were a breeze. It’s clear that the new owners love this place and want to make sure their guests will love it too. We will be back!

UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT! Our family of four stayed at Blue Haven and had a wonderful time. The new management is doing great job bringing a lot of updates to the property. The beach is absolutely beautiful. Our kids loved finding Petoskey stones and the sand is super soft and clean. Our cabin was spotless with a new shower, flooring and appliances. Would highly recommend.

My Father and I stayed here and it was great. The beach front is amazing, way better than we thought it would be. Pictures do not do it justice. The only issue is it rained one day, which is not there fault. We were hunkered down in the cozy cabin and asked for some playing cards to pass the time. They immediately offered that, but also offered a bunch of board games as well. We stuck to the cards, but that gesture really shows how well they want to take care of their guests. Will be back again.Noteworthy details: They have these binders in each room that show you where the best spots are to go and travel and eat. This was great because we weren't familiar with the area. They had local restaurant/bar that had amazing prim rib. We took the chance and it was excellent. Little touches like that in an northern MI resort it much appreciated.

We recently stayed at Blue Haven for a family get together and it was excellent. The owners are usually on site and are amazing. The cottages are tidy and have had some recent renovations, such as new bathrooms. They also come equipped with a charcoal grill, dishes, utensils, coffee and essentials to cook. The photos on the website are an accurate representation. TV has a Roku with all the streaming apps downloaded that you can sign in to. The beach itself is wonderful—sandy, clean and water is shallow for quite a ways out. We found lots of great fossils and Petoskey stones. There are fire pits with plenty of chairs, a volleyball court and outdoor games for communal use. My kids had a great time swimming, playing and stargazing by the fire. The owners are super accommodating and were happy to provide local tips and extra beach toys.

We had a wonderful experience at Blue Haven Beach Resort! The cottage was the perfect size for our family of four, it was clean and comfortable and the owners made sure we were happy and taken care of. The location is everything. The beach was the main event for our littles and we felt comfortable letting them run around freely given the property is so large and the water is shallow for quite a ways out. They could safely bop back and forth between splashing around in the lake and making castles on the beach. We appreciated the sand toy library, where the kids could borrow other fun toys we hadn’t thought of bringing for the weekend. The property yard games were also a hit for our family, and relaxing by the fire pits each night was the best way to end the day under the incredibly star filled night sky (10/10 star gazing). We will definitely be back!Food & drinks: G’s pizzeria will deliver right to your cottage at Blue Haven and their pizza was great. Highly recommend The Red Fork (~1 mile away) for breakfast, especially if you like biscuits and gravy!

Spent the first weekend of the school vacation up here with a group of families from school and had a fantastic time. The location is absolutely gorgeous, and the huge beach pristine, with powdery yellow sand. There appear to have been many recent updates to the cottages since the (super-friendly) new owners took over; our kitchen cabinets were brand new and there were new vinyl plank floors, plumbing and electrical fixtures - the previous carpet sounds like a terrible idea! You don't expect a Four Seasons-style room from a cottage resort up north, so you can/should only compare to similar properties. The Blue Haven cottages are certainly more spacious and (now) better-appointed than similar places where we have stayed in the past.As others have noted, if your focus is on the cottage, you are missing the point! The cottage is where you come for a refill or to sleep: your focus should be on the beach and all of the open space outside... Our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and we wish the new owners all of the success that their infectious enthusiasm and hard work deserves!

Just got back from our first Blue Haven stay, and my kids are already agitating for us to book again! We go up north with a group of families when school lets out, and this is the third cottage resort we have tried. Definitely our favorite. The quaint dark blue cottage sleeps our family of five comfortably, and it was clean and showed signs of recent updates (our kitchen and floor were new, our friends' cottages had new bathrooms). I love that every cottage has a view of the gorgeous beach -- far and away the best beach of the places we've been. I had to work on Friday and jumped on the wifi, which worked great all day including through some Zooms. The new owners were onsite and super helpful and accommodating. They seem really invested in making Blue Haven THE best cottage resort on Lake Huron. The highlight as far as our family was concerned was all the available outdoor activities. My kids left the cottage at 8am and only came back for bathroom breaks and food until I shooed them back in at 11pm! We had the advantage of being there with a large group of families with similarly-aged kids, which this resort really lends itself well to. The day starts with sunrise over the water and ends with smores over the campfire. This is what summer memories are made of!

Cottage 8 was cute, clean and big enough to suit our needs. Located right on a clean sandy beach with an amazing view of Lake Huron. Great swimming and sand castle building. It's about a 45 minute drive to Alpena for shipwreck tours and the shipwreck museum and 25 minutes to the Dinosaur Gardens if you have young kids. It's also 40 minutes to Iargo Springs and Lumberman's Monument.Rooms: The main room of the cottage was spacious, with a small functional kitchen. The bedroom was tight but it easily sleeps 3. The bathroom was updated but the toilet was a little wonky, sometimes it wouldn't flush all the way.

A great spot for a true “up north” vibe with the most gorgeous sunrise and white sandy beach. We love heading north to relax, unwind and to get away from things and this place was perfect. The rooms are nothing fancy, but the owners were pretty transparent about that and described it as rustic, which I’d agree with;) They also mentioned that they recently purchased the resort and are working hard to update some needed things. I recommend bringing some of your favorite things for a comfy night sleep- maybe even an air mattress if you have 5 people in a room;) They do have box fans if you request, which I totally need and appreciated. Showers aren’t fancy either…maybe shower shoes. We spent most of our time outside on the beach which is just incredible. There are great chairs, big bonfire pits and the cutest hammock swings. There was also firewood available. Drinking my Coffee on the beach while watching the sunrise was my favorite❤️ We ended up eating out quite a bit and found some unexpectedly delicious restaurants. We were craving Italian and Rosa’s Lookout Inn totally hit the spot!! We will definitely go back! Great price too…it’s hard to find reasonable rates with that type of view:)

The cabins are disgusting. I rented these for overflow guests from our own cabin. One of the cabins I rented had mold in the bathroom shower that was pushing out the tiles. The mold then continued along the floor and into the toilet area. The shower head was held up by a bent clothes hanger. The ceiling fan in the living room had so much dirt/disgusting gunk on it that you didn't dare turn it on. The beach was pretty but the furniture for this place was strewn about, the hammocks were destroyed, and so on. I did talk to one of the owners who basically said very little but noted he would get back to me. No one ever did. It's pricey and I paid an additional $75 cleaning fee for both units--and this is what one looked like. The other one wasn't as bad but it had disgusting carpeting and shower as well.

Me and my best friend have been there 3 times this summer and we Love it there. I take my dog and she loves it too. The water is clean, cottages are clean and comfy. Lisa, the owner is an awesome person. She's sweet and always makes sure we have everything we need. It's very peaceful and relaxing and fun. Definitely our new vacation spot.

Beautiful getaway on the banks of Lake Huron. We could relax on the beach or cottage while our child could have the freedom to play games and explore in this family friendly environment. Cottages have many recent updates too.Nearby activities: There are a lot of cute little towns to explore and great opportunities for canoeing.Safety: I felt safe letting my child play on the beach while we stayed near the cottage or walked the beach.

Summer 2022. When we first checked in to our room, we noticed a lot of ants. I texted the owner and she said someone would be by with an ant trap. Later, we found mouse droppings in the utensil drawer. The droppings were on top of silverware. I immediately texted a picture and asked for a refund. She refunded us our money and said that mice were an issue in other cabins but it was the first time she had heard of mice in our cabin. Before we left, I vacuumed and cleaned up after ourselves. The vacuum had old dirt and debris that had mold in the canister. So who knows how long it had been sitting there unused. We definitely left the cabin in better shape than when we arrived. I asked for a refund of the cleaning fee since it was obvious that the unit had not been cleaned before our arrival and we were not granted that refund. The paint was peeling off the walls, the carpets had stains, there were cobwebs in the corners, the shower looked gross, and this is all on top of an ant infestation and mice. We will not be going back.

Stayed for the weekend. Rooms are what you would expect for a cabin. Small and dated, missing the normal amenities of "home". But, we weren't there for the rooms or the landscape of the grounds, we were there for the beach!Beach access is extremely close with views from each cabin. Beach area is clean, with a few firpits and plenty of room for the kids and dog/s to enjoy the water! The shower was small, the toilet is low, the water wasn't delicious. The place was small, it's a cabin, not a castle!! Just bring what you would need on a camping trip, other than shelter, electric and running water! It's about the environment, not the cabin.Have fun and enjoy!

The owner Lisa is very nice and was always asking us if we needed anything. The kids had a blast! The rooms are very well kept and clean! She has several bonfire pits so large families can be accommodated. We went on July 4th week so there were several other families, but we still enjoyed our time because of how comfortable the owner made us. I highly recommended this resort!

Rented a cabin for a week-long stay. When we arrived we could barely drive through the parking lot due to miscellaneous clutter. Then we saw that the view from what was to be our cottage was a pile of garbage, 3 feet high and 25 feet long, down the entire side of the main building. Check-in was done by texting, with apparently no staff on site. That would explain the deplorable conditions. We left without checking in, kissing our vacation plans and our deposit goodbye.

The Blue Haven Resort is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed at. The cabins may be older, but they're well kept. The outdoor activities & the view of Lake Huron makes this place stand out. The owner, Lisa even went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed.

If I could rate it 10 stars I would! Cute little cabins with everything we could have asked for. The beach is wonderful and the host Lisa is even better!! She is so sweet and made sure we had everything we needed and some stuff we didn't even know we needed. We will definitely be back!

I wasn't expecting much and I hope you aren't either. Just a step above camping basically. Clean, nice beach, easy check in. My biggest complaint is how dirty the grills were. We didn't even want to touch the dirty melted meat that was on it. It was also frustrating that there wasn't a single kitchen knife or sheet pan. The pots and pans also need updating. Make sure you bring everything you think you'll need. Including a knife! Didn't use the shower as it was too small, I'm 6'2" the water is not great so bring bottled water. This all in all was basically what I expected. But wanted to warn others that there is basic necessities that are not provided.
