We live in a turn of the century carriage house with an industrial past as a former machine shop. Our family of three had lived in the building for over 10 years and done 2 rounds of remodeling prior to contacting Buckminster Green to engage in significant whole house remodel. We worked with an architect prior to our engagement with BG and had a clear sense of what we were trying to accomplish. I had followed BGs work over the years as the neighborhood changed and recognized them as one of the established design build companies doing work in Philly.From the initial look-see site visit, Kenny was thoughtful and practical in approaching the project, but did not veil his enthusiasm either. Working with a someone who could get excited about a project in the same way we, as the vested home owners, were made a world of difference when looking at possibilities and challenges. There wasn’t a giant rush to start, the BG team took time to set expectations with a thoughtful schedule and budget breakdown. This helped us to understand the value of the process. Kenny was clear where labor, materials, and profits fit into everything. Establishing transparency at the outset helped to establish trust. We made an effort to reciprocate in an explanation of our strategies to fund the effort.Throughout the entire project (approx. 1 year) the BG team was present, worked hard, and was respectful of our home and the worksite. A clean jobsite says a lot about how much someone cares about what they are doing. Scott was our project manager and orchestrated not only the BG team of carpenters, but also a slew of additional subs. On top of that he managed us the clients. When Scott would engage with us to explain a particular strategy or solution, he communicated with clarity and patience. Never was he condescending or curt in his delivery. There were instances where we discussed issues and he convinced us that we would be better solving a problem in a way that he had envisioned, and there were other times when he remained flexible to amend the project to realize something we wanted to change. Every effort was made to accomplish the items we requested and outlined in our project.The work that the team did onsite was so good and considerate that a neighbor wrote an unsolicited review of how professional the team was in their conduct when it came to notifying surrounding residents of construction activities that might have an impact on them.As with any remodel or adaptive reuse project, problems and challenges do happen. When it became apparent a sub had done inadvertent significant damage to new windows despite BG’s effort to protect them. When we notified BG of the problem, Kenny took time to understand and investigate the extent of the damage. He did not refuse responsibility, but worked with us to find a solution. BG recognized a mistake and has sought to fix it at some significant expense. This all came at the end of a long process and could have had a significant impact on the relationship and left my wife and I with a lot of stress and dismay. Then end result speaks to the human character that stands behind the company name. In the end, much of the renovation process is about relationships and character qualities. Of course, the end result is important, but getting there and feeling confident and secure in that journey will almost always ensure that whatever work gets done is good work. BG upholds the highest standards in those relationships from owner to employee.I would 1000% work with BG again in the future. I spent more money with them than I have on anything else in my life and the return on investment exceed all my expectations. I am still married and I am still employed. Without BG I’m not sure I could say either of those things given the scope of our project. One of the best teams in Philly, together they made the experience enjoyable and rewarding. On top of it all, we now live in a beautiful home that will be a distinctive part of our neighborhood for many years to come.Services: Home renovations, Flooring

My husband and I worked with Buckminster Green to gut renovate our kitchen and small patio in our Center City 1880s row house.The design and planning phase of the project exceeded my expectations. The team's expertise and attention to detail were evident, especially since we have a historic home. I had a great time collaborating with the designer Kristie: she was very patient as I sent her a million mood boards and ideas, and was super helpful and knowledgeable about various technical aspects and products. She made sure to keep the project moving and bring our vision to life.During the construction phase we had the pleasure of working with Sam. He sent us weekly project updates and tons of photos. We appreciated his skill, positivity and patience, and that he made an effort to address any issues promptly. Sam was always willing to show up and correct or touch up issues, be they minor or more substantial.Buckminster Green remained professional throughout the project, even if any miscommunications occurred. We have been back in our house for a few months and we could not be more delighted with the level of care and craftsmanship of the Buckminster Green team. Our house is about 130 years old and parts of the heating, plumbing, and electrical systems were past their useful lifespans. Buckminster Green brought these systems up to date and improved energy efficiency with a new insulated roof, insulated walls at the rear of the house, and air seals wherever possible. The team understood the challenges of working within the constraints of a brick rowhouse and made suggestions based on lots of experience. The house is now cozy in the winter and cool in the summer–a significant improvement for our family’s thermal comfort!The Buckminster Green team brought its attention to detail with the carpentry and finish installations. The trimwork is precise, the tile is thoughtfully laid out, and the custom cabinets are both handsome and sturdy. This all took patience and coordination–all the more challenging during pandemic conditions.We moved out of the house during construction. We had good communication with Kenny, Scott, and Carl during the process and felt confident that we were on the same page. A pleasant surprise was our neighbors' feedback. We frequently heard how tidy Buckminster Green was, how considerate they were about parking (a big topic in South Philly), and how kind they were when neighbors had questions. Buckminster Green took on a total gut renovation of the only bathroom in my 150 year old home. As you can imagine, countless existing problems were discovered as we demolished the space including missing floor joists, improper plumbing, lack of insulation, etc. Buckminster Green took the time to make sure everything was done correctly before installing the new fixtures. The room is only big enough to have one person working at a time and they carefully coordinated the schedule to get us back in our home as quickly as possible. The project included adding a window to the room and also adding radiant heat. It looks as good today as the day it was finished. Kenny even came back out to address the bathroom fan well after our warranty had expired and fixed it for us at no cost even though it was a problem with the fan not the installation. The place you go if you'd like every element of your remodel to be exquisite! Every person at the company with whom I've worked is smart and competent, but also considerate, careful, and CLEAN. Not to mention that they are a small business with deep roots in their community and the owners have donated their time and resources to their neighborhood group and park for 20+ years.(Over the past 10 years I've had Kenny plan/cost out a bathroom renovation we weren't eventually able to go through with - in part because his honest evaluation of our ideas and the possibilities led us to make a different, better choice about renovation - and worked with him and his crew carpenter on several park construction projects. I picked Buckminster Green on the advice of some friends and wasn't disappointed. I worked with them to redesign my kitchen, bathroom, and home office. Overall, it came out better than I'd hoped and looks fantastic. The communication process couldn't have been easier, as the BuilderTrend App makes it easy to communicate and they uploaded progress photos every few days. This review is only for the initial walk-throughs, scope setting, and communication during early stages of a remodeling. Ultimately, my family and I were unable to move and we put the house back on the market before work began.I am, however led to write this review because out of the many contractors to whom we spoke to when we were trying to find someone to take on some major renovations in turning an old-school Tudor into a multigenerational home, Kenny the owner of Buckminster Green, was thoughtful, communicative, and most of all, flexible! We didn’t know what was possible with the house, but Kenny worked diligently to present many options and make us feel secure. Hiring someone for a large scale, expensive project is always a bit nerve-wracking, but we felt better knowing our home was going to be in Kenny’s craftsmanship-oriented hands.I wish we could speak to the entire experience! Buckminster Green, LLC conducted a remodeling project involving a church school space at Historic St. George's United Methodist Church located in Olde City Philadelphia over the summer of 2019. The project involved repair of plaster substrates on walls and ceiling, minor electrical work, priming and painting of window sashes, wood trim, doors, walls, ceiling, installation of new Marmoleum click tile flooring and installation of AV equipment and cabinetry. Buckminster's workmanship was very good and the project team paid attention to detail, met the contract bid price, observed the project schedule, communicated well, and was generally responsive and cooperative in all phases of the project. I would recommend Buckminster Green, LLC to anyone who is considering a remodeling project of the type done for our church.
