I found Drainage and Erosion Solutions through the Fairfax County Best Picks report and other reviews. My house was built in 1948 and my husband and I bought it last April. A week before Christmas our finished basement was completely flooded. We called in a professional company to dry it out. But it wasn't clear where all of the water was coming from. A few weeks later it flooded a second time. Now it was literally a race against time to waterproof the basement. I reached out to Drainage & Erosion Solutions and talked to the owner David. He came out the next day to look at the problem. He sent over a plan the next day. Originally, they couldn't make it until the end of January but knowing how desperate I was he fit me in a few days later. His crew worked through the freezing temperatures, snow and long days. They put in 2 sump pumps, new window wells, ran the pipes from the gutters underground away from the houseand a french drain in my back patio. The work is amazing. I'm sharing pictures of my basement and yard. Before my basement was torn up and flooded and they had to dig up the yard to run the pipes! As you can see after it looks amazing and it works. I have to give a shout out to Gerardo, Rogelio and Jessica the office manager for their hard and professional work. It's rare you find a company that does great work, communicates and treats you like someone they know. Thank you everyone.

If you're looking for quality work for a good value, look no further. From Jessica in the office, to David and Donaldo - everyone we worked with from DES was top-notch. Out of four estimates we received, DES was right in the middle from a cost perspective. The work was scheduled quickly and completed in 6 consecutive days (with the crew having Friday off). The DES crew was courteous, professional, and always took the time to answer my questions as the job was underway. They didn't leave the final day until everything looked perfect. When unexpected issues arose during the job, David went out of his way to discuss potential solutions. I have already recommended DES to neighbors and will continue to do so. Drainage and erosion solutions was fantastic to work with. They did a phenomenal job with coming up with the most economical, as well as functional way to waterproof the sides of our home, and then create a pretty landscaped effect on the sides of our home incorporating a French drain rock, stepping stones and pathway. David was fantastic to work with on the negotiation of the project, and their pricing was very fair. David was very responsive and was here the day the job was kicked off to make sure that everything went as planned. Gerardo was the head guy for our job, and he also was fantastic to work with, and was willing to modify and make changes as we went along. They even threw in some additional elements at no cost. This company did work for us last August and I waited to put up a review until I could see how its work held up. We had water seeping into our basement when there were major downpours and had talked to various companies about work to resolve this issue. We received several proposals, which varied in price and methods. We went with Drainage & Erosion, which had proposed a less extensive and expensive approach that took into account the topography of our property--replacing one window well and raising the bricks on another. After numerous heavy rains and snow this winter, I'm happy to say we haven't had further water. The company and its crew were very professional, prompt and responsive as well.

I called this company to get a consultation for some re-grading work in my back yard. They do not offer weekend consults. No problem, happy to look for another company. I told them this on the first call. They proceeded to call and email me several more times and sent out a consultant to my home mid week even after I repeatedly told them I would not be needing their services.When customers decline your service, leave them alone.

We booked work with Drainage and Erosion Solutions for our back yard, lower level yard which was basically, dirt and a small slab patio. We experienced a high level of professionalism and courtesy from the owner to crew, throughout the process. The work was done in the promised two days (with a rain day in between) and not only was the end result functional (we are in a flood zone) but, aesthetically beautiful. After a couple of heavy rains, we had water leakage in our basement. David from D&E explained the likely cause, which was a huge cavity underneath the walkup stairway. He explained the process to fix the issue, as well as walking us through some aesthetic upgrades with stone walkways. Our sump pump was running every 30 seconds during a heavy rain and even in a medium rain it'd be going on and off all day. We started to have water seeping into the basement foundation from the walls.I was referred to Drainage and Erosion Solutions by a very trusted Windows/Siding Contractor so I decided to give them a call.They came out right away, everything was smooth, they were always polite and professional and their quote for the job was very competitive. (I always get 3 quotes for any contracting work.)They installed grating for driveway runoff and connected all gutter downspouts to underground piping to lead water away from foundation.Since they've come out for the work, there has been NO MORE WATER in basement and the sump pump only comes on during HEAVY rains and even then just a few times a DAY.A few months later I called David, their Operations Manager, because I didn't like where the water was exiting the pipes, sort of pooling in grass. He's a stand-up guy and understood my concerns. The result, Drainage and Erosion Solutions came out to extend the pipes a few feet further to address this concern, free of charge and their crew came out immediately.Here's the thing. When you call, they answer. They really stand behind their work and it shows. Will recommend them to friends/family/neighbors with ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE everyone will be as satisfied as me.

Over the course of 6 hours, 5 men with shovels and a couple wheelbarrows dug a 60 foot by 3 foot swale and covered it with about 200 square feet of sod. They added some topsoil and seed to the excavated dirt and spread it around the eroded area of the lawn and covered with straw. They also used a few bags of mulch around the base of the trees. The actual laborers did a very nice job and I have it all recorded on camera. I let them dump all the rocks in the woods behind our house so they didn’t have to load up their truck. The $7,420 estimate seemed high at the time, but I was a bit sleep deprived and trusted the sales rep. I assumed they needed to bring in heavy equipment and would be grading more of the lawn. Since it was an estimate, I assumed they would correct it if they saved $5000 on the job. Nope! I should have been charged half of that cost. If you have a nice house, this company seems to thinks you should pay a 100% or 200% markup. And they RUN immediately to the bank to cash the check! They are the real greedy Grinch who stole my Christmas!

EXCELLENT work and I am EXTREMELY SATISFIED! I am known to be very meticulous and refuse to settle for imperfections. Drainage and Erosion Solutions delivered exceptional results beyond my expectations. David and his foreman, Arsenio and Gerald, are very knowledgeable, patient, attentive to customer requirements, and take a lot of pride in their work. Everyone, including the crew, are highly professional and polite.Although the job was relatively small in comparison to some of the larger jobs they manage, I had a lot of detailed and challenging work for them to complete which involved correcting a major drainage issue around my house coupled with installing a patio, installing a backup sump pump system, filling a huge empty cavity under my walkout steps from the basement, fixing foundation cracks, and trimming an overgrown tree. My major concern (and challenge) was correctly the standing water around my house which caused my sump pump to run every 30 to 45 seconds during a rainy day and every three to five minutes a day after the rain ceases. Considering the work was completed last week, I will follow up after a few heavy rain falls.I have additional projects planned for the future and I will use Drainage and Erosion Solutions again. They have my highest recommendation!

Buyer beware! This company does not honor warranties! Take particular note if you had work done around 2017-18 and it remains under warranty!!I contracted with this company for a french drain, drainage system, sump pump, and grading work. The drainage system and sump pump were installed to resolve an issue in the basement where the concrete was bubbling and I was seeing water marks on the wall. The drainage system had a 5-year warranty. The work was done in December 2017, and years later the concrete bubbling returned in the exact same location. I contacted the company Summer 2022 and, initially, they claimed to have no record of doing work at my property. After I pressed them on it, they admitted there had been an internal shake-up at the company and several members of the company left to form a new company. I'm assuming (they didn't say) that as part of this process they either destroyed documents for work performed by those who left the company or those people took documents with them.In Fall 2022, I had other contractors come to my house to inspect the issues in my basement. It was then that one of the contractors informed me that the issue continued because the drainage system was not properly installed. At that point, I located my original contract, sent it to the company, noting that the warranty remained in effect and the drainage system was faulty. I called them several times to follow up, each time told someone would call back and no one did. After weeks of this, I set an appointment for David to call at a specific date and time. He never did.I strongly suggest you go with another company instead of this one! Their work may seem good initially but may not stand the test of time and, if it doesn't, don't count on them to honor their warranty obligations.Services: Installation, Waterproofing

After having our finished basement flood twice due to the amount of water that would enter and remain on our property following heavy rainstorms, we contacted Drainage & Erosion Solutions. We met with David who promptly came to our residence, assessed our situation, and discussed our options. Shortly after, we were sent a detailed proposal outlining the exact work to be done. After regrading areas of our yard and house perimeter, extending pipes and downspouts, and adding creek beds to our property, we rarely heard our sump pump turn on during the next heavy rainfalls! Our problems were solved with work that was guaranteed at a price we were comfortable with and after seeing the quality of work that was completed, our money was well spent! Last month we had Drainage and Erosion Solutions install french drains, a couple catch basins, and tie in all our downspouts to an underground piping. It was all run out to the street and into the storm drain. Not only did they perform stellar work but they were extremely professional and kept me informed throughout the entire process. Greg took the time to explain what he was doing, how he was going to do it, why it would help, and what assurances and guarantees the company provided. We had severe drainage problems in our back yard for years and they were all wiped away in two days work by their team. We had a sump pump that would pump water every 15-20 minutes and now hours will pass before kicking on. Let that be a testament to how effective and efficient their work ended up being. Not only that but we used to have to wait days after rain in order to mow our back yard.....Now I can mow a couple hours after a rain. I can't speak highly enough about Greg, his team, and the work they performed. I would have ZERO hesitation recommending them again. I rarely write reviews but I felt their work was so well handled that I was compelled to share my experience. My family and I are pleased to have a backyard that we can use.

Robert Reckmeyer designed external waterproofing actions for his crew, led by Rugillio, to EXTERNALLY WATERPROOF my home. Specifically, via a ton of dirt shoveling, they exposed two of my intersecting foundation walls [where from inside my home it seemed water was penetrating the walls that had begun to show effloresence (white powder)]. Next, they sealed any cracks in the walls they saw, painted the walls with a water-repelling substance, covered the walls with a vapor barrier, installed underground piping to take water from gutters to the end of my property, and installed a subsurface french drain. Moreover, they did all of this by carefully removing bushes that were in the space that was undug and by keeping these bushes watered to ensure they would not die; and ultimately they returned the landscape back to its original status, helped by sprinkling a generous amount of fertilizer on the grass that at one point was under the mound of shoveled-out dirt. It truly amazes me how fastidious EVERY crew member was; but I assume this is because they were being led by the best of The Best: Mr. Robert Reckmeyer (Project Manager) and the crew foreman, Rugillio!Services: Installation, Waterproofing

Our experience with Drainage & Erosion Solutions was excellent from beginning to end. We had an erosion problem with our sloped back yard and a gully in our back garden. Jesse came out to the house and described what they could do to solve the problem. He gave us a quote for a couple of different options. We asked him to come back out to the house a second time to clarify the work to be done and discuss an alternative solution to our erosion issue. They installed a french drain, catch basins, and creatively laid down river rock through our landscaped garden. They are an extremely professional company and we appreciated the great communication between Jesse, their office, and us. The crew was experienced and did the work as promised. Jesse came out for the final inspection to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction.

DE&S did an outstanding job for us by installing a 200’ dry creek bed/swale and solving other drainage issues as well. Amazingly, they completed all the work in only two days! This was a very labor-intensive project as the crew not only dug out the entire creek bed, but then they laid all of the stones in it by hand as well.Thanks to David and his excellent crew everything went very smoothly, and they were extremely neat and professional.We highly recommend them!

We knew we had a problem... the house across the street is a good fifteen feet above ours so we knew that the elevation of the neighborhood was working against us. A damp basement and some cracks along the front walls below grade had been there for years however when we started noticing structural issues we knew we couldn't put it off.We spoke to at least a half dozen contractors and "basement experts". Each had different ideas on how to fix different problems. Of course, they all said that the areas they couldn't fix were not problems. One firm, D&ES, took a lot of time to evaluate all of the problems and came with comprehensive solution to everything. They ended digging out the entire front and sides of the house to waterproof the walls and install new drain tile to ensure water doesn't get in. They also brought in a contractor that they work with to replace our old asphalt driveway and even applied structural polymers to fix a cracked cement beam that had sagged and cracked.Work was done relatively quickly. I was amazed at the number of folks who came out and while it was a swarm of activity, it was organized, efficient, and quick.We also selected them because of the warranty and the fact that they stood behind all of the work. They have come back after the fact and helped us with minor issues that have cropped up which is also great to have a local company do that.Since we have had the work done, we have been able to use our carport again, have noticed a much drier basement, and the walls that had been starting to bow have corrected themselves. All of the items on our checklist of goals.

We've been severely disappointed by DES's work and its treatment of us as clients. DES came out in September of 2017 to waterproof our basement. For context, we live on top of a hill without any surrounding water. We were told that in addition to digging up a portion of our yard to add waterproofing material to an external wall, we should also add a sump pump to ensure that nothing more would get in (additional cost). Less than a year later in June 2018, we had water leaking into the same area. DES came in again and tore up our yard again to fix the issue (albeit with some lack of communication around their scheduling delays that we didn't anticipate). In July of 2021, we had water coming in again in the exact same spot, and now we also had water pooling since June 2018 in another area of our yard due to the dirt that was piled up and not properly releveled from the August 2018 work they performed. We reached out directly to the owner, Mark Lane, (which we had done previously in 2018 and hadn't heard back), to discuss next steps. They sent someone from the team out to the house to take a look. We didn't hear back on next steps so reached out again, which is when David came out to our house. After he left, we had additional questions about next steps, including 1) What specifically was done in 2017 2) what specifically was done in 2018 to fix what didn't work from 2017 and 3) what was the plan now?We were not only unable to get clear answers, we were then verbally abused by David. We believe as customers who paid in full in 2017 (which came with a 100% guarantee), that we have the right to understand what work has been done and what specifically is being proposed going forward, so that we can vet those next steps with some other companies, given that the issue we had originally hasn't been fixed after two attempts and a lot of money spent with DES. We have since sent multiple emails to the owner, Mark Lane, made multiple phone calls to Mark and have even sent a certified letter - we have heard nothing since the day David was here. You'll notice that for the negative reviews that do exist, this company doesn't take any ownership of mistakes, often claiming to not know the customers writing the reviews. I urge you to find another company who won't take your money, abuse their customers and then not only not take ownership of an issue, but never respond.Service: Waterproofing

After removing some concrete near the house to reduce storm water run-off several years ago, water has leaked into the corner of the basement during heavy rainstorms. We finally decided it needed to be repaired. David Arias from DES came to the house soon after I called. His assessment of the problem inspired confidence (and, unlike another company’s rep, he did not “mansplain”). We scheduled the work several weeks later. David’s crew arrived on time, was friendly, and worked efficiently, completing the work earlier than anticipated. We were very pleased with the entire process, and look forward to a leak-free basement the next time there is a deluge. We are also glad there’s a 20-year guarantee!
