Joe is an awesome guy to know, machines are top-notch smooth riding. We did the 2.5-hour ride, what a great time we all had. Rented 2 Polaris Rangers had a group of 9 split up between the two. Came across a brown bear and two deer. The views are spectacular, to say the least.

Joe was great. Clearly explained everything we needed to know. ATV was in great condition. He is located right across from the Saloon bus stop so extremely convenient. Great price. It was nice being able to travel solo instead of in a group of 10 or 15 ATVs. Highly recommend. Book early.

We had the most amazing experience wity Hoonah ATV Tours! Highly recommend hiring an ATV from Joe. It’s fantastic to get off the beaten track in Hoonah and using the logging trails explore the beautiful island. We were so fortunate to see beautiful sights and even saw a bear walk straight in front of the ATV! We feel so grateful for the opportunity to spend our day exploring this amazing part of Alaska. If you are headed to Icy Straight Point on your cruise, skip the cruiseline tours and head into Hoonah for this ATV adventure. Great guys running this business, with reliable equipment to go explore the surrounding wilderness area. We were lucky enough to see a bear (at a comfortable distance). Be prepared, with this adventure comes some dusty trails. Dress accordingly and be prepared to show off your adventure to other cruisers with your dusty clothes.

We really had a great experience. Picking up the UTV was pain free as the bus from our cruise ship stopped right in front of the pickup location. Joe gave us clear instructions, a gps and a Spot satellite communication device. We jumped in and headed out to explore. So much fun. We stopped at every bridge over the creeks looking for spawning salmon until we found one creek that had a mama bear and cub feasting on the fish. Super cool! The best part was that we were self guided. We definitely recommend this activity and Joe and his business.

We had such a good experience here! We got see so much more than we would’ve had we not rented and it easily turned into one of our favorite days. The GPS was so easy to use and he personally picked spots for us that would be the richest in beauty and sights! Way more personal experience than just doing something through the cruise line and we got to independently explore while being safe and having fun.

Just home from a wonderful 2 wks in Alaska. Did 2.5 hr self guided tour with Hoonah ATV Tours & it was a definite highlight of our trip! Joe was great, loved the Artic Cat ATV & felt safe with the programmed GPS, tracking device..& bear spray!! 😳😅Saw some of the most beautiful scenery in remote areas we'd never have seen without this tour & all at our own pace & by ourselves. If you're gonna be in Icy Strait, I definitely recommend this tour...it was AWESOME & price more than reasonable compared to other excursions we did!!

This is such a unique and fun experience especially that you are given a map on the GPS and you get to go all on your own tour.It’s worth it to get the hour and a half because there’s so much to see and it’s so fun, we even saw a brown bear eating away at the tall grass down below a bridge.My entire family absolutely loved it and we highly suggest it!Make sure that you do NOT book from the cruise ships if you’re going in on a cruise and reach out to the company directly so that they can make more of a profit than the cruise ships do. (They make enough already and take a big profit from the business)Don’t worry the bus that you can take in to the cityis a short walk through the port and costs two dollars And drops you off right in front of this beautiful cute yellow house where the rentals are.Considering there’s not too much to do in this small town. This was an amazing way to spend the day in Alaska nature!the owners were absolutely amazing and they have a cute dog to.:)

A much better alternative to the guided atv tours offered by cruise lines. If you are heading to Icy Straight Point I 100% recommend going into Hoonah and renting an ATV there and supporting the local businesses over the ones at the cruise ship terminal.We were able to get 20 miles out of town and find some truly fantastic nature.

Great time and highly recommend! Self guided 2.5 hour tour by a local small business. Machines very well kept equipped with bear spray and GPS. The owner, Joe, even picked us up at the cruise pier for his first bookings of the day! For me, it was the highlight excursion of our Alaskan cruise! Just do it!

If traveling to Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), you CAN NOT miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Following a quick briefing on driving/bear safety, you are let loose to tour on your own. It is so surreal to feel as is you are truly alone with nature, and the possibility of encountering a bear in the wild fills your heart with nervous anticipation. If you seek an authentic Alaskan adventure, there is no better place to go!

Joe was awesome! He was super informative before we left. Told us tons of stuff about the locals, the local wildlife, the town and the countryside. Showed us the ropes and then turned us loose to explore.It's a beautiful place. It was awesome contributing directly to the local economy rather than what gets filtered down from the cruise/tour companies. It's totally worth it.And on top of that, we saw a bear, exactly where he told us to look. The man knows his stuff.The rental spot was a little tricky to find, but he was quick to answer his phone. Just get away from the cruise port and ask one of the bus drivers, "Oh, thats Joe! He's my neighbor. It's a yellow house." Great experience. I'm going back just to hang out with Joe in Hoonah.

Thank you soooo much for this experience! The owner went above and beyond when we were delayed for our reservation due to a medical issue someone in our group had and then the shuttle to town was also running late. We were stressed because we thought we wouldn't get to still go, but he was very laid back and understanding. He explained everything very well about how the machines worked and sent us to a beautiful serene spot. My only regret is not being able to spend the whole day exploring. Thank you for providing an experience that my son and I will cherish! Don't book the ATV excursions through the cruiseline... book with these local guys! As a business owner myself I can say this is 100% the company to spend your money with 🙂

we went yesterday with 2 adults and 2 kids on a self guided tour. This was An amazing experience! Owner was knowledgable and friendly. Machine was like new and drove great, we were set on our way with alll the information we needed. Super easy to follow map, GPS tracking in case we got lost and bear spray just in case! (which my little one appreciated as she was scared to see a bear). Highly reccommend to any travelers coming to the town of hoonah! Book ahead of time so you don't miss out.

Great local business, the UTV is really fun to drive around exploring forest service roads. This was my first Alaska cruise but I'd say renting vehicles is a must do at least once, gives you so much more to explore.The gasoline is included, as well as earplugs(which you'll want, the UTVs are quite loud), a GPS rescue button thingy(One button sends Joe, one sends search&rescue folks), and bear spray. They also went above and beyond for us and gave us a ride back to the cruise terminal when we were running late coming back(of our own fault) and helped us make the ship.

Great experience, atv’s are well maintained. Included with the rental: disposable ear plugs, a gps for navigation,and spot gps tracker/communicator just in case of emergency or non emergency problems.Although bear spray is kept on board,the noise of the machine keeps them pretty far away. We parked the machine for 5-10 min. and were glad we brought our own binoculars for opportunities to see some incredible wildlife across the cove.We only had time for one hour and it went by so fast! I wish we had booked a little longer as we could’ve easily enjoyed the 2.5 hour tour.I highly recommend if you are someone who is comfortable on atv’s and wants more flexibility and spontaneity. Joe was very helpful and attentive to questions as well as responsive to texts and phone calls for scheduling.

We had the best time riding ATVs in Hoonah. The ATVs were well maintained and the owner was very accommodating. This was a highlight of our trip and we will definitely rent them again if we are ever back. They truly care about their customers and provide they provide a stellar experience.

Had an amazing time taking our self guided tour. Do the longer rental if time permits, so much to see. Owner was super helpful, the GPS is easy to use and is pre loaded with your destinations. Definitely recommend over the city bus tours after hearing our shipmates complain.

Hoonah ATV Tours was extremely kind and flexible with our party of 9 when we needed to cancel our tour at the last minute when our cruise had to miss our port day at icy strait due to a medical emergency. Joe promptly gave us a full refund of our prepayment. It was a big relief and we so appreciate their professionalism.

Hoonah is beautiful, but it is even more beautiful when you venture away from the main streets and deep into the woods! I cannot believe how much fun we had exploring the island on the ATVs!
