I also feel like I've reviewed this place in the past, but if I haven't, let me say that it's the only place to get dinner or breakfast this time of year in Hoonah Alaska. That being said, they're trivia night every Wednesday is really fun, the meals are expensive but reasonably priced for being on an island where everything has to be shipped in by boat or by plane. I just wish I could understand the Google system better because it seems like it keep getting the same places that when I rate them or post on them I still get them again to have to do again, and I don't understand that, but that has nothing to do with icy straight Lodge, and it would be nice if Google Assistant was recognized that when I say something like icy straight Lodge it should capitalize the first letter of all three words without me having to do it.

On our recent Alaskan cruise we had a stop at Icy Straight Point. We prefer to do independent adventures whenever possible so we rented a car for the day from Icy Strait Lodge. The instructions to get from the cruise port to the lodge were easy to follow. We rented a Kia SUV which was clean and well maintained. The owner, Ed, gave us a map of the area which included logging roads which we explored in search of wildlife. We enjoyed a relaxing day in nature and saw some bears, a whale and bald eagles.

Icy Strait lodge went above and beyond for my group!! They are so friendly, helpful, and accommodating and really made us feel like part of the family. Honestly I’ve never stayed anywhere as friendly and accommodating as this lodge. If I could give more stars I would!! Make sure to be there Tuesday night for trivia night!! The host was hilarious and it was a great time to be had by all. Oh and the fudge! How could I forget the fudge?! We ate so much fudge and fries. It was a trip I’ll never forget!

As we explored Icy Straight we walked to this lodge off the strip!!! It was the cutest place, barb the owner opened the bar alittle early for us and we even did alittle karaoke. We hung out Drank many rounds of drinks and enjoyed the beautiful view from the patio. We needed to head back to the ship! We could not catch a taxi we asked barb if we could pay for her to be our taxi back into town and she was so sweet and happy to help us! Thanks Barbara for the hospitality we love Alaska and we will be back!!!!

Love staying here the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Always happy to help fun place to stay great views. The Resturaunt is conveniently on site bar too.Rooms: Rooms and cozy and warm with great views.Safety: Very safeWalkability: Close to everything in town.Food & drinks: Great food and bar on site.Vegetarian options: Great salad bar and variety of soups.Parking: Large front parking with two front entry’s.

We have been eating here during our stay in Hoonah. I highly recommend their food! The pastries are wonderful. The pizza is hand tossed. The burger options are great. And the fish entrees are amazing. We did the Huna Lulu tonight. Best. Hawaii. Pizza. Anywhere. The ISL Jammer is my favorite burger. And the blackened Halibut is fantastic. Everything made to order, so don't rush when you arrive. It's worth relaxing and going with the local time. Trust me.

Rented a vehicle from Barbara. Best way to get around the area. Pass on the over priced jeep tour on the cruise lines and go this way. Saw bears and the most beautiful land scape at our leisure. Don't be intimidated or afraid it was the best time. And the most friendly owner Barbara thanks so much.

We rented the Jeep Liberty to drive to what I thought was East Point at the mouth of Freshwater Bay for a picnic with a grand view of the fjords. Barbara was great, she suggested bag lunches and we had the kitchen staff pack us sandwiches. We told Barbara where were going but she didn't seem to know where East Point was. I didn't think too much of this since I downloaded maps to my phone and was confident in the day's oncoming adventure. Oh the Jeep; the Check Engine light and Tire Pressure warning light were on all day long. I checked the tires, the pressure was fine. I was more worried about the fact that they were all-weather and not all-terrain and almost bald and it was raining that day and we were about to out on a barely traveled dirt road/grass/rocky road. Oh and 2 out to the 3 passenger door window buttons didn't work. My wife/mother-in-law and her friend didn't find any of this amusing. As we were heading out I knew it would be a great day. Over and hour in we passed the turn off for Kennel Creek Cabin where we should have turned for our picnic with a view. We kept trudging along, the road getting more narrow by the mile, seeing no other vehicles either, crossing two bridges over small creeks along the way. We finally saw a National Forest Ranger coming the opposite direction and as we talked to him confirming our suspected disappointment of what East Point would or would not be, it was refreshing to know that he knew we were out there. The road got to be so over grown with grass it was taller than the hood of the Jeep. We felt like we were way, way out of the way. Check out Google maps for East Point, you'll see. We finally made it to the end of the road and it was a small turnaround with no view. We hungry, we stopped, ate, had our bathroom breaks, in turn, in the rain. My wife/mother-in-law and her friend didn't find this amusing either. At. All. We headed back and at each of the aforementioned bridges we saw an adult brown bear each feeding in the creeks! Stunning! We ended up pulling off to check out the Kennel Creek Cabin area, gorgeous! When we got back to Icy Strait Lodge, they were closed and only Ed was there. The look on his face when he saw the amount grass stuck to the front the Jeep was priceless. He gave a ride back to the ship while giving us the scoop on Hoonah.Icy Strait Lodge is the only company in town to rent a Jeep to take on your own. Think about this. We were the only people from our cruise ship to have this experience. Brilliant.Barbara/Ed, thanks so much. How about some all-terrains on that Jeep??? It got a little slippery.

Our local tour guide took us to the hot spot for finger licking goodies. Enjoyed the halibut wrapped in bacon, smoked salmon and the fried crab cakes. Follow with different flavors of Alaska beer. BEER! 2 Teaxs Gal's

We rented a car for a 9am pickup it was a very rainy day and we needed to get a cab from the cruise ship terminal to the lodge only to find out the one cab in town run by the lodge by the way was not operating that day! Luckily our cruise ship shuttle driver was kind enough to the lodge which was a about a 1/2 mile from the shuttle stop (my husband walks with a cane so walking was not an option) we arrived around 8:45 knowing we would need to wee at it until 9 when they opened but 9 came and they did not open no email response no calls answered. Finally around 9:15 Christina showed up my to have to finish the lodge paperwork from the night before before she could process our rental we were very pressed for time being we had to be back on our ship by 11:30 I would not recommend renting a car from here the bad part is if you need a car this is the only place to get it so you are a captive audience like in an airport you have no choice!
