I could not be happier with Scurfield Solar and Heating! Everything they did was the absolute best quality. They kept to their timeline, and budget, and did excellent work. For the first time in 16 years I have a house that is properly heated-something that I had pretty much given up on given some of my past interactions with other heating companies.Before deciding on a company to do the work (which was to close off the old in floor ducts and put in new ceiling ducts, move the heater and thermostat) I got multiple estimates. In the end it was an easy decision to go with Scurfield Solar and Heating and I am so glad that I did.They took time to answer my questions, were straightforward about what would (or wouldn't) work and why, and obviously cared about their work and our community. Their price was fair and every single stage of the work was stellar from the quote to the system design, to the crew, to the billing and office staff.The crew was on time, they picked up every day, were kind to my family and my dog and were respectful of my home. The estimate and design crew took time to explain what the design process and the billing/front office staff were great communicators.My house feels totally different now I can actually feel the heat working evenly in every room. They addressed all my questions and concerns about the job. In the end they went above and beyond, and I am so grateful to the entire Scurfield team. We absolutely love the Scurfield Solar Company “family”.Starting with the cheerful front office Staff, to each and every person that played an important part figuring out how to replace our antiquated solar hot water panels, and wood heat thermo-siphon systems. We upgraded to one very large “Sun Bandit” hot water tank and solar panels that heat our water on days when the sun is out.It took some very clever thinking from physics to mathematical processes, to “MacGyver” thinking of how to install this 80 gallon tank into a very small area and then, to be able to put this complicated puzzle together and have it work as one symbiotic smooth operation, it was simply nothing short of genius.They also installed a separate heat pump system which is working quite well. Previously we only had wood heat and small electrical heaters which were not cost effective. So far we are very pleased with the heat pump system that the Scurfield company recommended.All of the workers who came to our house to complete the installation were very professional, friendly, and courteous. To us, they felt like family.We are completely satisfied with all the work.

Scurfield Solar and Heating is the BEST! Every person who spoke with us, worked on the system, and followed up during the process was absolutely wonderful. They were excellent communicators - details were explained patiently and thoroughly. The workers were professional and cleaned up after themselves. Appointments were kept as scheduled. Steve was our point person from the beginning and was the last person we connected with when the solar panels were installed, and we felt well-informed; he answered our questions and concerns kindly and promptly. My husband is super-opinionated about how tradespeople work. He was SO impressed with everyone from Scurfield that he couldn't stop talking about them. I can't tell you how unusual that is! Our new favorite thing to do is stand outside and watch the PG&E meter run backward. Thank you Scurfield for our new solar panels!

After 7 months and over $139,000 to have Scurfield install a solar and battery storage system and a new whole home heat pump heating system I walked away learning a bit about Scurfield Solar and Heating that other potential clients should be aware.The entire project was poorly managed and I was often left with not knowing when they were coming or how long anything would take. When I signed the contract I was given the expectation that the solar installation would start immediately (I was told the panels I wanted were in stock so they could start right away) and my heat pump installation would be done by winter. That did not happen.It took them 5 months to even start and 9 months to complete. I had months where I was paying the loan for the system that was not even working and I was also paying my PGE bill. Be very weary of their Mosaic loan as it provides no protection for the client in the event the contractor is delayed. When Ben Scurfield was made aware of this he still didn’t prioritize finalizing our project. To my face he told me our project was a priority but the next few sunny days no one showed up or call. Crickets. If that is how he treats his priority clients I really can’t recommend them.When we inquired with Mosaic about deferring payment because the system wasn’t working they said they would look into it. They shared Scurfield’s response:“We were on site on 3/1, 3/2, 3/3 and 3/8.Permit was issued 1-27-23 and was delayed due to coastal commission variance request because of proximity to slough. Permit was signed off 3-3-23.Interconnection was flied 3-7-23. System was commissioned and place in pre PTO mode 3-8-23.She has been warned that she cannot operated her system until she has the permission to operate and is angry she has had to make some payments to mosaic and her system is not yet operational”This was a very misleading and unprofessional response. It does not admit to the fact that the primary delay was them not applying for the permit until Jan 19th (we signed a contract Oct 8). The Coastal Commision variance review did take 5 days but we are talking about 3 months after the contract was signed. Also if they received the permit Jan 27 why are they only working on it in March? Why would Scurfield think that I was “Angry” for trying to defer the loan? I think deferring the loan is a very reasonable solution. Maybe they should have helped me defer the loan and told Mosaic that there have been excessive delays. I really felt like they threw me under the bus and did not have the customers best interest with a response like that.Other issues we had include them storing their equipment in our garage alluding that installation was imminent. I later found out I would be responsible if anything happened to them. I felt like they used my garage as their warehouse. Don’t let them store stuff at your house.Additionally in their original design we requested the maximum # of panels that would fit on the roof however when the installers got up there they noticed more could fit. I found out the engineering team sized the roof from google earth and never measured the dimensions. Even after at least 4 site visits to get their parts list. How frustrating to go through a change order that could have prevented if they collected that data from the start. Even more frustrating when they were already so delayed.I understand things happen and installation is weather dependent. My whole family and I were very patient throughout. But after months of delays I was hoping for an apology or at least some ownership of responsibility for their part in the mismanagement of the project. Nothing. Their delays cost real money and it was very hard to cover an $800 Pge bill and a $400 loan in the same month. We offered them a path forward to make it right in our minds and they refused to meet us halfway or offer any concessions at all. This lack of responsibility coupled with the unprofessionalism is forcing me to share this experience and give them a poor review.Service: Heating system installation

Scurfield was extremely professional in all phases of our project from assessing the project to writing the contract to completing the project. All of the workers were not only good at what they do, but pleasant to have around. This was a big project which included removing old furnaces & an old water heater, old heat vents under the house & replacing with new room heaters & a solar water heater. We wound up with 24 panels & are very pleased. Did I mention that this was completed during the rainiest winter since 1890.

My 40 year old solar hot water heating system finally died. Ben figured out a way to continue using the collectors which were serviceable and the storage tank but modernize the control system. The technicians especially Reed did an excellent job installing the updated system. My water is again being heated using the sun's rays. I recommend them most highly.

Ben and his crew have installed solar panels and replaced our old wall gas heater with a heat pump heating system.Heat Pump Heating: Amazing! As it is a small house, under 1100 sq ft., Ben installed a floor unit in the living room, and wall unit in the bedroom with the ability to expand to the 2nd bedroom if wanted. They are so quiet, and heat up so much faster then the old wall heater. The outside unit is very quiet too. I was concerned about the electric usage, but the panels seem to do the job. If you have furry pets that shed lots, you may need to clean the filter more often then with a wall gas heater.The Crew: Great guys, they defiantly know what they’re doing and love their work. Very conscientious with drop cloths and shoe covers when working inside, and picking up after themselves.I would highly recommend Scurfield Solar & Heating and a heat pump system for your heating!

EXTREMELY Rude!Yesterday I called and spoke to the owner to get a quote for 2 houses. He told me he would call me back to see when he could find time to stop by.Today I received a call back from a child...well she sure sounded like a child...telling me "that he wasn't going to be able to help me"???? Completely lost I explained he hasn't even done anything.
