Bait and switch. Ordered a white pergola. End caps were tan, and they painted over them. Multiple emails have given no response as the paint has peeled. Stated they ordered new ones, but no response for a fix via email or phone. The next step will have to be Small Claims Court, I guess. Went with aluminum and a pro for a good look with no maintenance. Got neither.

TOP QUALITY CUSTOM CRAFTSMANSHIP, ANDEXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICEA few months ago my aunt asked for help in designing a patio cover for a fairly expansive deck on the front of her mobile home. We wanted something that would provide much needed shade and blend in with the appearance and structure of the home. I visited with Dave at Homestar Construction’s Patio Room and Patio Cover showroom in Arroyo Grande. He spent over an hour transforming my ideas into detailed drawings, presented me with various options, and gave me an overview of the available materials to achieve the results I was looking for. The next day Gary came to the home, took measurements, provided several samples and prepared a detailed scope of work proposal. Following Gary’s visit my aunt and I visited the showroom and met with Jerry, Homestar’s Project Manager, who gave us an overview of the construction process and timeline for its completion. Gary subsequently took care of all permits and coordinated all the work on-site. The two construction workers were very efficient, worked quickly, and took great care to keep the job site clean. The job was completed in just 5 days and we are exceptionally pleased with the outcome. The color of the materials blends nicely with the home, and the customized structure enhances its overall appearance. It was a pleasure working with everyone at Homestar Construction and we highly recommend them.

I’m sorry to hear that we have all had such a bad experience with Dave and his company, he has been dishonest, unprofessional, and unethical in his is business practices. You are not alone in your frustration and anger, as many other customers and employees Here is my experience from Homestar Construction- A Homeowner’s NightmareDon’t let the smiling Sun fool you Homestar is a company that claims to offer high-quality home improvement products and services, such as windows, doors, siding, roofing, and insulation. However, behind the glossy brochures and the friendly sales pitch lies a dark and sinister reality. Homestars is run by Dave, a ruthless conman who has no regard for his customers, his employees, or the law. He is a master of deception, manipulation, and exploitation, who will stop at nothing to make a quick buck at the expense of others.Dave has been operating Homestars as a monopoly in the area, taking advantage of the lack of competition and the high demand for home improvement projects. He has been charging exorbitant prices, often marking up his products by 90%, and collecting more on deposits than the contractors board allows. He has been hiring unqualified or inexperienced workers to perform shoddy work on unsuspecting homeowners’ houses, causing damage, leaks, mold, and other problems that will haunt them for months or years to come. He has been using fake or outdated credentials, such as claiming to be a top 5 dealer in the nation for a manufacturer that he actually owes money to. He has been lying about the availability, quality, warranty, and installation of his products and services, promising things that he cannot deliver or that he never intends to deliver.Dave has also been mistreating his employees, paying them late or not at all, bouncing checks and hiding away at all cost He has been evading bills, and creditors also ignoring or avoiding his customers complaints, requests for refunds or repairs, or legal actions against him. He has been manipulating customers into changing reviews, ratings, or testimonials to create a false impression of customer satisfaction by promising to fix what he should in the first place!. He has been planning to file for bankruptcy before paying back any of the money he owes to his customers, employees, suppliers, or lenders.Dave is not just a bad businessman; he is an evil heartless man who has no remorse or conscience for the harm he has caused to so many people. He is a true conman/shiester who deserves to be exposed and stopped before he can ruin more lives. If you are considering hiring Homestars for your home improvement needs, please do yourself a favor and stay away from this company. Youwill only end up with a nightmare that will cost you more than you bargained for. Homestars is not a star; it is a black hole that will suck you dry.I hope this review helps you express your feelings and warn others about Dave and Homestar. You have every right to be angry and seek justice for what he has done to you. You are not alone in this fight; there are many others who share your pain and support your cause. Together, we can stand up against this heartless man and put an end to his sham of a business. Let’s hope that this time, he will not be able to escape or survive like a cockroach. Let’s hope that this time, he will finally face the consequences of his actions

Put 50% down on June 15, 2022, and was told our patio cover could be installed within a week. The first post was installed in the wrong location. After calling to cancel the project, I have either gotten excuses on material and crew shortage or the calls go unanswered and not returned after leaving messages. Still trying to cancel order after 3 months of nothing.11/29/22 Update: This is not a Central Coast problem. Contracts continue to be written and jobs completed by Home Star with no intent to pay back a refund as allowed by contract. Seems like owner is saying that he has $0 after payroll even after 45+ years in business. I am still trying to get my deposit back.

I was told by the salesman and the owner Dave that they would start work on my patio within 6 weeks. That was back in March and finally I asked for my down payment of $7,200.00 back and like before with starting the work they (Dave the owner) and his workers kept giving me the run around and won't give me my money back. I've had to get a lawyer. Don't even consider going with this company. They are crooks. They took my money and won't return it to me after calling them over and over.

Three months ago, I wrote the negative review below. I now strongly feel the need to amend it. Admittedly, I was too harsh. This review was written after a cancellation of an appointment and I took out my frustrations in the review.First, we absolutely love our patio room. We have spent more time in our patio room in the last 5 months than we had spent sitting on our deck in the previous 5 years. And no matter how upset we would get over the delays, Jerry, the manager, was unfailingly polite and understanding. I have been assured by Jerry that the problems we experienced have been addressed. Cliff, the technician , has been extremely proficient in addressing several small problems. So, my apologies to Homestar Construction for being unnecessarily harsh in writing a review that was not completely warranted..If you are thinking of using Homestar Construction for your outdoor needs, I would strongly suggest you reconsider and find another company. I do not mean to imply that we are unhappy with our sunroom. However, we were given a 6-8 week timeline back in November when we signed our contract. Over the next 17 weeks, we were given one excuse after another as to why the work was not begun. No one called from Homestar to explain the delays. We always had to initiate the phone contact. Finally, when the materials arrived, two workers came for 3 days and we never saw them again. After 2 weeks of inactivity, 2 different workers came for 4 days and they too disappeared. Over this time , numerous commitments were made to us by Jerry; none ever fulfilled. Workers were scheduled to be here, promised to be here, and simply never showed up without a word from anybody. Today, Cliff was supposed to be here to water test the roof. Of course, as per usual, he never showed and no word from the company. Rescheduled for tomorrow. We will see what happens. Hopefully, our 9 month saga with Homestar will finally be at an end. Find another company!

This company is not returning our deposit even though the agreed to do so.Dave, you signed an agreement to return our deposit on a sunroom if construction did not start by October 28. Where is our refund? We’ve waited for the sunroom since February 2022. You are not responsive. We see you are still advertising and taking new orders and new deposits, but as we see it, you aren’t doing the work. IS THIS A PONZI SCHEME? Dave, we want our refund now! New consumers beware!

Love our patio. We have had this company give us 3 bids over the past several years. Each time changing our mind and thinking we’ll wait. First we were thinking a sunroom, then just a pergola, we finally settle on a peaked roof solid patio cover. It looks great! We had 2 other bids from different companies who were a little cheaper but the quality material and warranty wasn’t there. Our general contractor who is doing work on the inside of our house was very impressed with the quality and look of this patio. He asked the name of this company so he could refer clients. The company is local and they do a great job. Dave is the owner and he was the one who gave us 2 of the 3 bids over the years! Great to work with!

I have a contract with this company signed on 7/11/2022 and gave them a deposit for $3750 for a patio cover. They promised 10-16 weeks for completion. After numerous calls for updates, still no response from them and 9 months have passed so far. Does anyone know of any class action suit against this company?

Ordered in August 2021 and we are still waiting in June 2022. We paid 50% of the price up front, too. Judging from the other reviews, this delay is not unusual, but they initially said it would be complete by Thanksgiving 2021. Their sunrooms may be awesome, but be willing to wait.Dec. 15 UPDATE: After hearing multiple excuses for the many delays (supplies, labor, incompetent employees, etc.) and reporting it to the Contractor State License Board, the CSLB suggested I file a claim against their bond. The bond company replied that there are multiple claims exceeding the bond amount. Looks like I am screwed. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

Dave, I have made 4 phone calls to your office over the last couple weeks to get my roof that is leaking repaired and I have yet to hear from anyone. I've texted you and no response so maybe this will get someone's attention. I have also requested a phone call from you and have yet to be called. This last leak was the biggest of all the leaks I've had and it ruined all my wedding invitations, which I feel you should cover the cost of. An over 20k, year old room should not be leaking especially to the extent I've had. Please follow up with my request. I'm expecting 2 phone calls today. One for a repair appt and one from you.

The owner of the Arroyo Grande store told us that their windows would reduce the temperature in our home. It did not. We did not complain. The seal in the windows failed and developed condensation that does not dry out, therefore you cannot see out of them. At the time of installation in 2017, the owner guaranteed the windows to last as long as a roof. So we contacted Homestar in AG. This was over 6 months ago. They take our information, then fail to contact us. Over 6 months of stringing us along with false assurances. We agreed to their offer to replace the windows and we would pay for labor, only to be ignored again. After months of calling weekly we waited a month to hear from them. Nothing. When I resumed contacting them, I had to start over. They denied knowing anything about our job. They have asked for the contract twice. They claim difficulty getting materials yet they are taking new business. So it looks like after 4 years we are out $7,665.00.----Contacted by company, within 20 minutes of posting above review. They agreed to start process of replacing windows under warranty, on August 30th 2021, if I would take down my initial review (Posted above). I edited the review however on August 30th they did not keep their appointment nor did they even contact me to re-schedule. They have not contacted me at all since. I am left with no other choice but to find another contractor.Homestar installed a design that is specialized to their company. I have contacted numerous contractors to replace these windows. The response from all of them is that this is too specialized for them to work on. It seems that my only option is to pay a contractor to remove this specialized design and install a conventional wall with window, all at my cost!

DO NOT USE HOME STAR CONSTRUCTION! It will be your greatest regret. The owner is a liar and a thief. The business is fraudulent. Our contract was signed in July 2021, and we waited too long to seek action with foolish hopes that Dave would actually follow through on his promises. Unfortunately, our story is similar to others, a significant sum taken without services and not refunded.

Dave, We have been waiting for many months for our funds to be returned. We texted you the other day and again no response. You said our funds will be returned to us beginning of September. Here we are. Please don’t give us a further run around. When EXACTLY will funds be returned to us? For the sake of running an honest business, do the right thing, Dave.Dave, Re your response……Again, you have not answered my question. You said our funds would be returned beginning of September. You don’t need to tell us the same story over and over again. You never told us about delays when we gave you our deposit. You were not honest with us. We want our money returned to us as you said, this week. And stop thanking us for our patience as we no longer have any. This nightmare has gone on for way too long. Give us our money.UPDATE:Over a year has gone by and still nothing. Since my last post I know of many others you have ripped off.IF ANYONE IS THINKING OF HIRING HOME STAR, DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE WE AND MANY OTHERS HAVE MADE.

I can't began to tell you how happy we were/are with Homestar Construction. We have a large wooden pergola and decided to replace the upper trellis with an aluminum roof. The owner/sales rep, Dave, came to our home (1 1/2 hrs travel time from Homestar) and spent the full morning analyzing and drawing up options. He brought product samples for us to see and choose. As promised, the work was ready to began in approximately 8 weeks. We were contacted a week prior to the start of this job by the foreman, Jerry, who was extremely diligent during and after the completion of this job. Also, as promised, the entire job took the amount of days they predicted with the exception of one extra day because of an added request from us. The men who took down the trellis and built the new roof, Juan and Jose, were exceptional. They were thoughtful and positive with their work and with any questions or requests from us. Not only does the final product look amazing but the crew cleaned up beautifully upon completion...something you don't see very often anymore!!! We had an additional small job after this and Jerry followed through nicely (again, as promised). He sent his "handyman" Cliff to do this task and to say this man did a good job is an understatement. He went beyond expectations and we are thankful for his perseverance in fixing something that was considered to be unfixable. Our thanks to Homestar Construction for the beautiful roof that you promised we would like...we love it!

October 2021 Final Update:A new revolving three-man crew arrived, along with the long-awaited sunshade materials and fixtures. In addition to installing the shade, the crew also corrected numerous roofing installation errors created during the July 2021 Homestar roof tile installation phase by a previous crew member. This last crew team also corrected flashings which the first crew installed incorrectly, and also addressed the inoperable rain gutter system installed by the immediately preceding work crew.We should note that the last team to work this project were polite, informative, and worked cooperatively on every aspect to ensure the final product was completed according to the original proposal and plan. The final cleanup of the worksite was timely as well.Project completion: 10/15/2021 (except we have not yet received the two aerosol paints which are specially formulated for the two different colored aluminum components installed by Homestar.)July 2021 Update:To Homestar: Please advise me when you expect to finish this over one year old project. We noted inoperative rain gutters during the negligible rain last week, and have seen no one from Homestar for several weeks. We still have unused and apparently unnecessary construction materials on site for months, and have not been advised when the sun/wind screen might be installed, or when the obvious construction errors will be addressed.- - -Signed Contract to build exterior patio cover in July 2020. Install began seven months later on February 10, 2021. Numerous calls between contract and start of installation were either not returned or were (and continue to be) fraught with excuses, but never satisfactorily explanatory or justified as it is always a 'supplier issue'. The two installers essentially worked part-time for a day or two, then would not reappear for several days at a time. After about 10 days, work stopped because of an incorrect rain gutter was identified just before it would have been installed, and because we had to also inform the installers that the contract called for a faux tile roof which must be affixed before the gutter can be installed. Another month passed without a call from the contractor, so we had to restart making the calls to determine whether the contractor was going to secure the missing components and return to finish the project, or whether we should consider the project abandoned. After several more voicemail messages without reply, we now learn that another 'Project Manager' has been hired, that roofing and rain gutter materials and stacked stone orders should all become available next week. We shall see, but we are not at all pleased with this company to date.

Although it took quite a while to complete, our very custom patio cover turned out great! The gabled roof has tile to match our house. Our pillars are wrapped in stacked stone and look fantastic thanks to the expertise of Gabriel. Overall, we are very pleased.

We had HomeStar come out and remove our old wood patio cover and they installed an aluminum cover which looks very nice. The workers Johnny and Junior were very nice to work with. They make sure to clean up and leave everything nice after they are done working. They let us know exactly what they are going to do. We are very pleased with the workmanship they provided. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that the office doesn’t communicate with us very well.

From the estimate that Brian did, the site inspection that Hillario did to the actual construction done by Gabriel and his crew I am very happy for the service I got from everyone! There was a hiccup or two but Gabriel make sure everything was PERFECT! Now that the work is done I am very happy with the finished product. Now I wish I would’ve had it done years ago. My dog now has a fully protected patio from the sun and the rain. I highly recommend this company, I would hire them again, kudos to everyone involved. Oh I can’t forget Melissa the front office person, she was great at every step!! Thank you everyone ❤️

Home Star provided the Design Construction and Installation of our Patio Cover approximate size was 31' x 11'.Rich from the initial sales meeting thru to the completion of the project the Home Star team was rock solid. Sale with Dave, construction discussions with Jerry right on through to the installation with Hilario and Johnny the effort was truly a 5-Star adventure.Does not seem like much these days turns out as envisioned but in fact this entire project has met all expectations. We have already asked for quotes for additional work from Home Star.

Our sunroom is incredible! We got off to a very lengthy start with the permitting process but, Jerry was able to navigate the challenge. Once we got to the installation phase, the process was seamless and so exciting. Matt worked his heart out digging holes for the footings. Kinsonne, Scott, and Manuel came each day and were respectful, fun, and competent. Our home was treated with care. Our sunroom looks so much like part of the house that when people see the pictures they ask, “Where’s the sunroom?” We couldn’t possibly be happier with the final product.

Found this company thru our local city festival- The Lompoc Flower Festival - we scheduled a consultation with the gal working their stand at the festival - no one came or called on the date scheduled. I called the company to ask for another consultation - they came - we really liked the gentleman that came to show us their product. SUPER NICE and professional (I can't remember his name) We agreed on the product and price - paid our down payment - and when our product arrived we were excited! We were told this would be a two day - MAX- project. The worker started building - by the end of day one we only had posts and one or two headers installed - INCORRECTLY. My husband came home - (he is a general contractor/builder) he knew RIGHT away - it wasn't being built correctly. We called and tried to get ahold of someone to stop the project - we were told by Dave, the owner, that there was no way it was being built incorrect - his builders were experienced and top notch... After several days of back and forth phone calls - we finally convinced Dave to come to our home and evaluate the situation. He observed and agreed and it was ALL WRONG. The current patio had to be scrapped and new parts had to be ordered, the entire project had to be restarted. We were given a time frame and we waited. It was two weeks past the promised time frame - but the new parts FINALLY came - it was installed - and although there were slight corrections that needed to be made on the final installation - we now have a patio cover. BUT, we also have holes in our NEW concrete patio as well as our NEW hardy siding on our home from the original patio installation attempt. The project took ALOT LONGER than it should have and alot of headache - but we do have a patio cover.

Love our new Patio! We knew we had to replace the old one and had been looking around for years at alternatives. Dave came to our house with samples and suggestions. Because the value and quality seemed to be right on, we went for it. The only hitch is that work commenced SOONER than expected (LOL), and was completed in the order and timeline detailed in advance. Jose and Johnny were the main guys working during this time. All workers were awesome, and we found all of them thoughtful, polite, respectful, answered any questions, diligent and knowledgeable about the work they were doing. When closing out, they cleaned up beautifully and verified we were A-OK. Our new LifeRoom roof and framing with lighting is perfect to beat back the murderous Paso sun and give night-time patio living a new boost. Great Job, guys!

Scheduled an appointment with them and Tim came out to the ranch to provide information on a trellace we wanted. He was unprepared with information and followed up with a quote before we had even chosen product. We asked that he send photo's of actual installations which he responded with a "look it up on line". We couldn't find any photo installations on line. Then we never heard from them again. 2 months later we have called back to complain and will see if we get a satisfactory resolution.

We've had our aluminum gazebo for two years now and it looks as pretty as the day it was finished. It's held up through storm, hail and practically daily gales where we live, and in the summer that's with two sail clothes flapping madly on it. Being in fire country it was a smarter option than a wooden structure and while there was a hiccup during installation the foreman was marvelous and very responsive about finishing the job professionally.

Worst company ever!!! Can I do one lower than 1 star? Going on 2 years now of trying to get them to make good on the contract to finalize my 82 year old mother's patio cover in terms of providing her the final permit; which she paid for and never received. City now says that the company never finalized their requests for changes and therefore it was never permitted. My siblings and I nearly made a career out of trying to get them to make it right for nearly 2 years. How do companies like this stay in business? Keep shopping around

Next I want to Acknowledge The “Outstanding Work” Completed By Hilario Mendiola He Installed My Patio Cover and I Requested Him To Install My Drop Shades He Takes A lot of Pride in His Work!! Homestar Construction is Very Fortunate To Have Employees Such as These Two!! The Results of His Work Speaks For Itself.

Scheduled a consultation. We waited for over an hour and they never came. We called and had to schedule another day without any apology. The next consultation was a no show too. We’ve given up on them and from the other reviews it looks like it’s a good thing.UPDATE: After seeing our review they called us and tried to offer a promotional trip. We were not interested in working with them.
