Catalina Island is my favorite place. I love the history and the atmosphere is magical, transporting me to a place of relaxation the minute I step off the boat. I have stayed at several different hotels in Avalon and Vista Del Mar is by far my favorite. I’ve returned to stay there many times over the last 30 years and recommended it to anyone who asks. It’s central location is just steps from the beach with a perfect view from the balcony to just relax and enjoy. The staff are always welcoming and helpful. Savoring coffee and continental breakfast in the morning, and freshly baked cookies and milk in the evening while relaxing on the balcony overlooking quaint Avalon harbor are treasured memories. The rooms are beautiful and luxurious, completing the perfect vacation experience. I was raised in Southern California but have now retired in Oklahoma so I don’t foresee many more Catalina vacations in my future, but I hope I have encouraged you to give it a try and that you will enjoy this enchanting place as much as I have.

We stayed here in February 2022 for 2 nights.First, great LOCATION. Few minutes WALK from the terminal.Walking distance to many restaurants.Lobby has a great view of the water and Green Pier. Check in was great. They called me days before to ask about our arrival time. We were lucky to be checked in early due to availability of room. We stayed at the courtyard room- gas fireplace, wet bar, queen bed, sofa bed, wireless phone charger, dimmable lights. The hallway leading to rooms are filled with green plants and sky roof made it bright and lively. The room was clean. Great bed so great sleep.Breakfast was delivered every morning to your preferred time. One floor down is the Steve’s steakhouse and seafood! Many PROS. Only con- it’s located on the third floor of the building, no elevator. Acceptable as Avalon is a small town and has small spaces.Still we give this place 5 stars!Highly recommended!

Pleasantly surprised!! Super friendly staff, clean rooms and an exceptionally comfortable bed. Great location and accessible to shops/restaurants. We were amazed how quite our room was and would definitely stay here again! The warm chocolate chip cookies every evening was a plus!

Haven't even completed our stay but upon entry, I just felt compelled to start my review. Don't let the "no elevator" fool you. It's a quick walk up some stairs to the most gorgeous entry way you will see! The desk concierge was beyond fantastic. He even showed us to our room and how to work the fireplace 😉. We will definitely be staying here again!

The Hotel has such a great vibe, the staff are friendly and so thoughtful. The manager Mary and staff made us feel right at home. The rooms are nicely decorated, up dated, comfortable, clean and the space laid out well. The Hugh saltwater aquarium, just amazing, all the plants are definitely a plus. The view of the beach from the upstairs entry/lobby - of Avalon Bay with a couple of tables and chairs is fantastic. The hotel has nice amenities and makes a good cup of joe along with a lovely assortment of breakfast delights for it's guests. I'll be making plans to stay at the Hotel Vista Del Mar again. Thank you.

We went to Catalina and stayed here for four nights. Wow what beautiful room. Want to say the staff was great. Mary was very attentive and made us feel like someone special. We were only disappointed with the social and labor's of the Hispanics, they were not friendly and sometimes rude. I felt like it was there island and we were not wanted. This was not the hotel staff but the restaurant and general public.

Really really nice hotel. A bit pricey especially in the summer months but it's really not much more compared to the other hotels in Avalon and it feels much more luxurious and updated. They offer free continental breakfast as well as milk and cookies as a treat every evening.Big downside is you have to climb stairs to get to the hotel which is on the 2nd floor of the building above shops. They do offer a great view of the docks/ocean in their lounge deck area. It's very relaxing to sit there and enjoy the views and sea breeze. Rooms are well kept and clean. Would stay here again.

Best staff I have ever encountered. The owners were very friendly and answered any and all questions we had. Told us everything we would ever need to know about the island and really invested time into making us feel welcomed. Served cookies and milk at 8pm. We were out to dinner during that time, but as soon as we got back to our room, we found a batch waiting for us. There is also continental breakfast in the morning from 8-10. Not only that but, they have complimentary movies near the front desk to borrow and hot cider all day. Great snack bars with prices cheaper than a convenient store and a fireplace included in the rooms.I would recommend this hotel for anyone whose looking for a homey and luxurious boutique hotel. This was a well deserved 5 star hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Ocean view suite and it was lovely! They called me to ask when I would be arriving but I forgot to call back. When we arrived right around opening at 8 our room wasn’t quite ready so they sent us away for about 15 minutes. Still, they let us check in way before the 3 pm check in time which was awesome. When we walked in the room, music was playing, the fireplace was on, and there was a cold bottle of champagne waiting. So romantic. The room is very spacious, and there’s a big jet tub that you can watch the TV from. You won’t want to get out, but there’s also a shower if you prefer that. The mini soaps and toiletries are fairly large and have a lovely scent, which isn’t always the case. It was so nice to be able to sit on the terrace and watch the water or people below. You can hear the waves crashing from inside the room, it’s so peaceful. There’s curtains blocking the terrace outside and large curtains for all the front windows so it feels very private. At 8 pm they serve warm cookies and milk in the lobby, which was delicious. In the morning they have a continental breakfast with little pastries, fruit, cereal, and coffee, which was nice but not amazing. We were sad to check out in the morning and delayed doing so as much as possible. If you have the money to spend (because I do think it's a little overpriced), I definitely recommend staying here for a relaxing, cozy experience!

Staff is extremely friendly and do whatever they can to make sure guests are happy. The rooms are clean and the view from the hallway/lobby is great. This was my second time staying at Hotel Vista Del Mar and I will definitely be staying again next time I visit Avalon.

Cant say anything about the actual hotel as we won't be going there. I booked a reservation for our anniversary on their website. After it was booked I received a call that the room was not available. Juan R was polite, but condescending about it, choosing to blame my voicemail being full and a third party website glitch instead of taking responsility for Vista Del Mar not being able to take reservations on THEIR OWN WEBSITE. Of course there was no manager available and no discount or anything else was offered for the trouble and of course i had already made travel arrangements. Too bad, It looks like a nice place, they just need better customer service and to figure out how to take a reservation.

Was trying to stay at a different hotel. Glad that didn't work out. This place was amazing. Especially Martin and Kelly. The fresh bread in the morning and the warm cookies at night were great but the service is why I'm definitely come back here. Thanks Kelly your staff is amazing!

Beautifully appointed rooms with every amenity, except possibly microwave — but use of one on leftovers from any of the outstanding restaunts within 3 blocks should be criminal. Continental breakfast in the morning followed by cookies and milk in the evening. Stunning view of Avalon bay from comfortable wicker chairs on the open air front balcony. This is Catalina at it's best. Caution, two flights of stairs separate you from the street entrance. They will assist with luggage but there is no elevator.

Quickie:+ Only a 7-minute walk from Catalina Express drop-off (no taxi needed)+ Smack dab in the middle of the boardwalk and right on the water+ Grocery store only 2-minute walk around the corner+ All activities/tours/rentals just minutes away on foot+ Highly, highly, highly recommended---Verdict:I'm picky and not even I could find something wrong with this place. This was just a superb hotel that I will be recommending to anyone who vacations in Avalon. I couldn't have asked for any better.Location:Best location I could've ever asked for on a vacation in Avalon - hands down. This hotel is planted right in the heart of Avalon's boardwalk. There are restaurants and bars down the street in both directions, a Von's grocery store just 2 minutes around the corner and the mini golf course, parasailing, golf carts rental, and pretty much everything a vacationer would want to do no more than 4 minutes away. We stayed for four days in Avalon and didn't need to rent any mode of transportation - everything was literally a few steps away.Room:There is only one floor of rooms in this hotel and only two suites that actually have an oceanside view. I paid the normal price for a regular non-oceanside suite and was extremely pleased. We stayed at the end of the hall so we rarely heard any noise from the surrounding rooms and guests milling about in the lobby. The deluxe room had a mini bar area with a counter, sink, and stocked fridge; an electric fireplace; large mounted flat screen TV, separate seating area with a chair and mini loveseat, queen-sized bed and bathroom with closet. There was ample amounts of storage for our clothes so we didn't have to live out our suitcases during our weekend. Also - there is a vending machine at the end of the hall for any late night drink cravings. A lot of people recommended to splurge for the big expensive suites but the regular rooms were just perfect and are highly recommended.Service:We arrived at 11 a.m. and checked right in - we didn't have to wait until the 3 p.m. check-in! Everyone we encountered at the hotel was just great. They were really helpful with our questions and food recommendations. The maids take care of the rooms really well... we were out for only an hour or so one afternoon and when we returned, our room was made up!Extras:+ Continental breakfast served at 8 a.m. (bagels/cream cheese was my fave)+ Warm chocolate chip cookies and milk at 8 p.m.+ Diverse DVD collection for free rentals (uploaded a photo)+ Free Wi-FiNote:+ No elevator so you have to walk up two flights of stairs from the street+ No door to the bathroom so if you try to nap in the daytime, the skylight in the bathroom illuminates the room+ The balconies for the oceanside suites are open to the hotel lobby... no privacy on those balconies and you'll see everyone/they'll see you when they arrive

It's not about the hotel, it's about the view! Right on a soft sanded beach with a gorgeous sunset and sunrise. The staff is pleasant, cortious and helpful. The rooms themselvs are old and out dated with shabby, hard carpeting and old in need of remodeling bathrooms. But that is offset by the cheap prices and the gorgeous town itself. The entire area is covered in plants that I'm told are kept by a gardening club. Everywhere you look within a half mile radius are breathtaking succulents, flowers, trees...it's just beautiful. All the plants attract hummingbirds which add to the experience.

Loved the hotel. It is a small hotel but still very nice. I went with my wife for our honeymoon. It is in the middle of everything so I enjoyed that. Enjoyed the freshly baked cookies every night. Ths hotel will hokd your luggage before and after checkout so that was very helpful.. I will book again when I go back.P.s. thanks for the great memories!

Perfect location, beautiful lobby/hallway filled with plants, great view from lobby, nice rooms that are upgraded and clean, beds are comfortable, staff is very friendly and the warm cookies and milk at night is a perfect touch! Whenever we come back to Catalina this will be our go to spot.

No elevator, you have to walk up 3 levels with your luggage and strollers, etc. Inconsistent staff and guest experience. Rooms are outstanding. Free breakfast consists of coffee and all the bread you can eat - not as advertised.

Just exquisite. My husband and I dont get out much since the kids, so while we were here, everything was just perfect and lavish. It's the perfect get away hotel and made us feel like royalty. The staff was all so kind, we will definitely be back!

We came to the island for high adventure, but ended up with something even better: a staring contest with an adorable puffer fish at the salt water tank in the lobby of Hotel Vista Del Mar. So fun! Seriously, this place has been a pleasant surprise.

This is the only place we ever stay on Catalina. The view from the lobby is amazing and it is about as centrally located as you can get. The rooms are great and the cookies and milk every night is a cool touch.

I cant't believe I had to give them a star!!We had booked a room for our upcoming wedding on Catalina Island for Sept of this year and my fiancee' called about securing travel (boat) tickets and the Vista Del Mar customer representative was so rude to her she was in tears. She wanted the ocean view suite which we had made reservations for. But if they treat the guest the way they did her. I dont even want to stay there and recommend you dont either. On top of this they charged me 10% room fee for cancelling. I could understand that if I was cancelling a month or week before the date, but this is ridiculous. Our wedding date is nearly 3 months away. They have NOTHING on the website that mentions a cancellation fee and the link they provided via email to me about their policies was invalid. Not only that...but I cancelled because my future bride recieved wretched customer service. That is completely UNACCEPTABLE!!!We, as a warning to future guest of this hotel say: STAY AWAY!!! Trust me there are plenty of elegant places on Catalina to stay that welcome your business and will lay out the red carpet for those who are planning on being wed or just want a romantic getaway. Our wedding is still going on as planned, but we are never going to stay here. Take my advice and do the same.
