I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying overnight on Catalina Island. My boyfriend and I stayed at Zane Pueblo for three nights and we're blown away by the hotel. It exceeded our expectations! The room we stayed in was charming, clean, and beautifully decorated with tall French windows that faced the town. Situated at the top of a hill, the hotel had sweeping views of the ocean and marina on one side and the town on the other side. In the mornings, it was a quick walk out the back of the hotel to watch the sunrise over the ocean. We loved our daily walks up and down the narrow street that led up to the hotel from the town center. The hotel also had a driver that shuttled guests between the hotel and the town which we took advantage of when it was pouring rain. The employees we interacted with at the hotel were kind, respectful, and attentive. We arrived early in the morning and we were able to leave our belongings at the front desk while we waited for our room to be ready. We can't wait to be back!

We had an amazing stay at the Zane. The rooms were clean. There was someone waiting to pick us up at the ferry as soon as we stepped off. Our rooms were ready early. All of the staff was extremely helpful. We stayed in the corner sweet which was large, had amazing views, the beds were comfortable. Our only complaint was the walls were thin. The room next store played loud music late into the night. The staff did their best to try to get them to shut it off. I would absolutely stay here again.

Best hotel to stay at in Avalon! Staff is incredible, they treat you like their own family. Our hotel room was extremely clean and even came with robes and slippers for our entire party! Breakfast was great as well. This hotel has one of the BEST views of the entire Avalon city. Highly recommend. They also offer complimentary golf cart rides to and from the hotel and basically anywhere in Avalon.

If you want to feel like you've been taken advantage of, you should stay here! Paid $800 for two nights for a deluxe queen room overlooking the town. The room was OK. Big enough. Had enough counter space so you could make your own meals. But the light in the hallway stayed on all night so you could see the light coming in from underneath the door. Also, you can't turn the bathroom light on and off. It just comes on whenever there's movement. Which is really annoying in the middle of the night. And the windows wouldn't close. A maintenance guy had to climb down onto the ledge and shut them from the outside. It's newly renovated so not sure why he had to do that? I guess they forgot to update the windows while they were renovating. The breakfast was nowhere near what it should have been for hotel that costs this much. Cheap and basic. The pool was not heated nor was it cleaned. None of the pool furniture was set up. We had to move it around ourselves. There were very few people staying at the hotel while we were there, so maybe they just couldn't be bothered to set it up for the number of guests that they had. I don't know, but once again made me feel really taken advantage of since we were looking forward to a pool. Some of the furniture had mice living in it. The inside stuffing was strewn about and there were mice holes or rat holes in some of the cushions. When I brought these things to the attention of Management they literally could've cared less. We talked to several other guests who were also highly disappointed with the service they received. Once again, if it cost 150 bucks a night, no problem. But I paid $800 for two nights and felt like attention to detail was severely lacking and Management could've cared less. The whole experience didn't feel good. It sucked. I wouldn't recommend staying here ever. Unless you are totally loaded, have zero expectations and like feeling like you got ripped off.Walkability: At the top of a hill. They have golf cart pick up service available. If they're available....Food & drinks: None. Breakfast is similar to that of a low end chain hotel.

Stayed in a King room with a view of the water and the rest of Avalon. Absolutely fantastic room and view was incredible. Room was clean when we arrived and everything worked as it should. Staff were always super friendly and helpful. Being driven up and down the hill is definitely a big plus and the staff always came promptly when we needed them. Favorite hotel on the island!

My biggest regret is not reading the negative reviews prior to booking this place. Unfortunately, everyone was right. We stayed in the Ocean King Suite NYE weekend. Upon arrival, the concierge asserted "we don't do late checkout," however in the packet of information, it stated the hotel did. There were several amenities that we paid for that were not in working order: the pool was not heated, the fire pits and patio lights were not working the entire weekend. The toilet seat was loose and the toilet bowl was stained yellow--beyond what I'm sure they defend as being from the "ocean water"--no, this is due to poor maintenance. Our bathtub drain was rusted and kept pouring out dirt and sand when we tried to run a bath and had to keep draining it, and eventually just gave up on taking a bath, which was a selling point for us for the room. The A/C did not cool properly and never was able to cool the room down. The water temperature and pressure were inadequate. In regards to the breakfast, I've had better breakfast at Denny's. The ONE highlight I will point out is the service we received from Enrique and Natalie--whom assisted us with the drain and TV.

This was a fabulous stay up high on the hill! We loved the adobe or Mediterranean style hotel. I didn’t realize it was named after a famous author. The buildings and architecture is so unique and very old, but they have really done a great job modernizing it. Sylvia was so very friendly when we arrived. The entire staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Our tv did not work correctly, and she came up right away. She put us into a different room so they could work on it. The views are absolutely beautiful! You feel like you are visiting another country. Pablo was available often to take us up and down the hill, but we wanted to get our steps in. He drives the golf cart in the photo, so look for that (not a shuttle bus) in the parking lot as you get off of the Catalina Express. The breakfast was pretty good. Nice selection. See photos. After we checked out, they let us continue to sit by the pool enjoying the sunshine until we were ready to go eat lunch.Rooms: A lot of character in the rooms and the beds and bedding was very comfortable!!! Clean room and bathroom. We were able to adjust temperature as we chose.Safety: We felt very safe tucked away up top.

We stayed in room 301 which is at the top of the highest building. The view was incredible and the staff were very helpful and polite. They offer rides into town until 10pm which we fully utilized. Walking down to town takes 10min but coming back up is not for the faint. My only gripe is the hot water for the shower takes 5 minutes to heat up and runs out quickly so you can’t really take a long shower or a hot bath. Otherwise it was a great experience. My fiancee and I plan to get married on the rooftop next year.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming staff who made me feel right at home. The hotel itself is a true gem. The lobby is beautifully decorated, creating a cozy and elegant atmosphere. My room was not only spacious and immaculately clean but also tastefully decorated with modern amenities that ensured a comfortable stay. The hotel’s location is also worth mentioning. Perched atop a picturesque hill, our hotel offers breathtaking vistas that are nothing short of mesmerizing. From your room’s window or the hotel’s spacious terrace, you’ll be treated to sweeping panoramic views that seamlessly blend the sparkling azure waters of the ocean with the dynamic cityscape below. What truly sets this hotel apart, though, is the exceptional level of service. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my needs and were always eager to assist with any inquiries or requests I had.In summary, my stay at Zane Grey was nothing short of outstanding. I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a luxurious and memorable stay. It’s the perfect blend of comfort, convenience, and exceptional service. I can’t wait to return on my next visit to Catalina.

The hotel sits on the top hill right next to a big bell (rings at least 15-30 minutes). I sadly couldn’t take a nap with that ringing. The view is beautiful as you overlook the whole island day or night, it will take your breath away. They pick you up with a golf cart once you arrive at the island with your name. When you need to go downtown, they will drive you back. Same if you need to get picked up, they will come downtown to pick you up if you call them. This service is all free. Don’t try to walk back to the hotel because there are many inclines. The room is also spacious and the bedding is soft and comfy. Overall, good quality experience with this hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for my birthday staycation. Visited in mid December so super quiet, not many tourists around and we felt like we had the island to ourselves which was amazing 😁. The hotel is close enough to downtown Avalon and close to trailheads as well. The rooms are cute and functional. The staff was always helpful and friendly! The breakfast was yummy 😋. Missing it already….

Was worried that the bell tower chimes would keep me awake, but they programmed the chimes to stop at a reasonable hour and not start up again until 8:00 am. Loved our room, it had a large balcony with fabulous views of the o ran and town. Nice and quiet, walkable to town but they also have a shuttle available. Breakfast overlooking the mountains and canyons and we were visited by deer while enjoying our coffee. Very pleasant experience.

The Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel has been renovated to the finest of standards. Large, fluffy towels are provided at pool side. All the staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful in every way, especially in providing shuttle transportation from dockside to the hotel and, then later, back and forth in to Avalon center.I also very much appreciated the hotel’s concierge service of securely keeping my bags and luggage at the hotel, and then having them later brought down to the dock, until I was to leave on the shuttle back to San Pedro. It was wonderful not having to cart around many personal items while visiting shops, and going to restaurants the day I left. This hotel has an almost spiritual quality that promotes a very calm and relaxing stay!

Stayed here for 4 days, 3 nights and I cannot say enough about this hotel. Upon arrival at the Catalina Express they picked us up and had our room ready early. Every staff member was absolutely amazing, our room (Honeymoon Suite) was gorgeous and clean and had the most beautiful views from all the windows and our large balcony. The pool was nice and warm, they provided a tasty breakfast everyday and whenever we needed a ride into town or to be picked up they got us to and from quickly. The staff was extremely kind to us. I will definitely be returning to this hotel on our next trip to Catalina. Thank you Zane Grey for giving us the most memorable vacation.Rooms: The Honeymoon Suite is absolutely amazing!

Was supposed to stay here for a night, but bad storms threatened our return trip the next day. Kelly in reservations was very accommodating to refund our 1 night stay since we could not chance getting stuck on the island for any additional nights. Will definitely return another time and book Zane Grey hotel!!

Our king suite was spacious and had a beautiful view. Everyone on their staff is friendly and helpful. Pickup service a huge plus.Only complaint: The rollout couch in the living room was super uncomfortable to sit on, and the side chair seat was sprung so also uncomfortable. Kinda made the living area unusable.Walkability: Easy walk downhill to town.

The location and view is is the best part of this hotel. Our room was beautiful we had a king bed and nice mountain view. They also picked you up from the ferry with your luggage in a golf cart which was convenient. The breakfast wasn’t very good eggs tasted rubbery potatoes were stale and coffee tasted like dirty water. We stayed Thursday- Friday one night and it was over $500 very expensive for the experience we had.Our hotel room was underneath a penthouse and the people above us had 3-4 kids that wouldn’t stop running around and screaming super annoying! Then we had the hotel alarm wake us up at midnight and didn’t stop for almost an hour my husband had to go down to the lobby and get the staff to turn it off.I’m not sure I’d stay here again, but it is a very beautiful hotel and quiet location away from the restaurants and shops.
