We highly recommend EKR Construction.EKR helped us remodel our parent’s former home.After our parent’s death, we decided to make the house a rental.This is our first rental. We are not seasoned real estate investors. This process was absolutely new to us. We wrote a scope of work with a general outline of what we wanted to have done. We spoke with at least six contractors. Most did not return phone calls until we followed up. After contact was made, we met each contractor at the house to discuss the project.If we received a quote, it had less detail than our primitive scope of work, and one lump sum dollar amount for the entire job.Our budget was adequate, but far from unlimited. We wanted to be able to pick and choose from different parts of the proposal to stay within budget. That was made impossible by the contractors.Our frustration level was very high and growing, until we met Keith Rakestraw of EKR Construction.Keith, the owner of EKR, met with us at the jobsite several times, over several months, BEFORE we signed a contract. (We were also still clearing out the house during this time.) Those meetings were spent discussing our goals and how to handle common issues in a house built in the 1950s.A few examples:-The interior walls were lath and plaster, and contained asbestos. Keith referred us to three companies that were qualified to remediate the asbestos.-The attic space is very small because the roof has a very shallow pitch. This impacted ducting for HVAC. Keith brought in his HVAC contractor to discuss how to install ducting with inadequate room in the attic.-We created a master suite by moving some plumbing, walls, and doors.Throughout this process, Keith was very patient and LISTENED to what we were saying. He answered any and all questions completely and clearly during these meetings. Keith offered suggestions and alternatives that saved money or provided a better solution for a specific part of the project. This allowed us to spend more in other areas.After those visits and discussions, Keith provided a contract that itemized each part of the project with a dollar amount for that part of the project, not one lump sum for the entire project as provided by the other contractors. Not only did this allow us to pick and choose the parts of the project that were most important to us, it provided a template for checking progress payments.When the contract was signed, Keith asked for a deposit of $1,000. All the other contractors had mentioned far larger deposits. Keith let us know that California state law sets $1,000 as the maximum allowable deposit for a project. This proved to us that Keith troubles himself to stay current on laws governing construction and that he is honest.With the contract in place and the deposit paid, EKR went to work. Progress was fast and work quality was very good. At key points, Keith asked us to walk the house to see and approve things like the number of electrical outlets and their placement before those items were actually installed. Progress payments were invoiced after we walked the house to see the completed work.Communication was open and frequent. If Keith didn’t answer immediately, he responded to our calls within an hour the vast, vast, majority of the time and within a day always.There were few delays, because Keith knows how to efficiently manage scheduling subcontractors, crew, and inspections with the permitting departments.We’ve begun interviewing property managers. Each and every property manager had nothing but praise for the quality of work.As always, do your own due diligence. But we believe you will be happy you chose EKR for your project.

If you need any kind of construction assistance, you need only make one call: EKR Construction. Owner, Keith Rakestraw, and his crew were amazing in every aspect of work performed in our home. They took genuine pride in their work. And at every turn, they showed that not just meeting, but exceeding, our expectations were foremost in their work. We needed the floor in a room raised 7" to meet the floor in an adjoining room, and a wood floor installed in the raised room. Besides the floor itself, this involved adjusting electrical outlets, painting and more. They were meticulous and consistently very professional in their work, which was excellent. All invoices met estimated costs. On time with the project. On time for daily arrival at our home. Knowledgeable and helpful in decisions that needed to be made. Confirmed with us everything was to our specifications as the project progressed. Thanks to Keith and his crew, EKR Construction is on my speed dial now for any construction needs in the future. I've also already recommended him to others; something I don't take lightly when choosing to endorse a person or a company.

Keith is wonderful! From our first meeting, I had a good vibe about him and throughout our master bathroom project, he proved me right time and time again. He is extremely professional, kind, honest, and responsive. His team is wonderful as well: kind, polite, and true craftsmen of their trades. Their high standards met my own and I am so pleased with their work and attention to all the details. They showed respect with cleaning up every day and truly caring about doing a top quality job. They're also very personable and were great to have in our home (sometimes people working in your space can be awkward and uncomfortable - Keith and his team were not these at all). We are so pleased with how our bathroom turned out and will definitely be calling Keith again for future projects. Our neighbor recommended EKR as they had recently remodeled their kitchen. We are extremely pleased to have chosen EKR for our project. They constructed a complete remodel of our kitchen from the ground up, relocating our washer and dryer, installing new cabinets, replacing all the electrical , the floor, and the lighting. EKR installed all new appliances and made sure everything was working properly. Keith delivered everything he said he would. Our new kitchen was completed on time and at the cost he said it would be- there was never a surprise or unexpected expense we didn't discuss beforehand. The quality is amazing- we couldn't be happier with the way it turned out and the attention to detail was professional. Keith was also extremely responsive- answering questions and providing guidance on things we were unsure about. His crew was friendly, always on time and cleaned up at the end of each day. While EKR was working on completing our kitchen, Keith came across some problems with the wiring in the electrical system, so he upgraded the electrical panel for us to meet the needs of our new kitchen. Our house is 60 years old, and we knew the electrical system was less than efficient, so we called EKR a month later and they returned to completely rewire the entire house. Should I ever again need construction to be done in our house, I would call EKR without reservation. We hired EKR construction to remodel our downstairs living room. Which included installation of new dim-able can lights, reface our fireplace, a custom made mantle, retexture our walls/ceiling, and repaint. Blown away with the end result, it’s beautiful. EKR Construction replaced the cracked, lifted concrete on my patio with beautiful pavers. Not only was their workmanship excellent, but they were polite and courteous throughout the demolition and rebuild processes. They even gave me design suggestions that made the pavers look much better than what I had planned. They arrived on time every day and cleaned up at the end of each day. They helped me move the plants and furniture off the patio and put them back in place when the project was done. We just completed a remodel of our kitchen/living room, added a patio cover that is tied into the roof, replaced all the electrical and windows in the house, added AC and central heat, redid the backyard with pavers and artificial grass, added a fire pit and painted the interior and exterior. EKR delivered everything they said they would- the project was completed on time- there were always people working; completed at the cost they said it would be- there was never a surprise or unexpected expense we didn't discuss. The quality is amazing- we couldn't be happier with the way it turned out and the attention to detail.
