Buyer beware - horrible experience! Bathroom remodel project was supposed to be 6-8 weeks. We pointed out to HWG that the shower wall had two different grout colors after the grout had dried. We were told to please be patient as the colors will become uniform after some time. We have since followed up with HWG on a monthly basis over the following 12 months and have continually been told they are either researching potential solutions or following up with their grout vendor. We are now 14 months after the project started, 12 months after the final invoice has been paid and no resolution. The last communication from HWG was a text message indicating WE would need to pay $500 to seal the grout, which may or may not resolve the issue. If you like horrible craftsmanship and poor communication while spending a ton of money on a home improvement project, then HWG is the company for you!

Started project on time, communicating when they were going to show up to work on the project and even with uncooperative weather we’re able to complete timely & do a fabulous job. Working with John and Adam was such an enjoyable experience for us. They finished our basement adding 2 bedrooms with large walk-in closets, 2 bathrooms, media closet, kitchenette, storage and large family/TV living space. Any problems or questions we had before, during and after the process were taken care of promptly. There will always be hiccups when doing construction but HWG was always up front with us and worked well within our budget. This is an "out of the box" review, but one that I think is still valuable because it gives a sense of who you would be working with if you choose to work with HWG. I own a lawn care business in Fort Collins, and have worked for dozens of businesses in town over the past 10 years. I am generally pretty cautious about working for a commercial company (as opposed to our usual residential customers) for a few reasons. HWG has been SO good to work with. I know firsthand that they genuinely care about the residential neighborhood they moved into a few years ago, and made special effort to revive what was once a very neglected lawn. Lastly, the couple who owns and works in the business are both kind, excellent communicators, and honestly inspiring in the way that I have seen them treat other people, not just how they treat me and my employees. Choosing a business to work with is largely about the quality of the human(s) that you are about to engage with, and I can vouch for HWG in that sense.

HWG Services was contracted to paint the exterior of my house and I couldn’t be more pleased with the job they did- my house is beautiful! We deeply regret hiring HWG services.Their remodel work for us was both severely behind schedule and terribly over budget. Even though it was a substantial remodel HWG didn't apply for permit until months into the job, which caused significant delays. Soon after they started the work, they increased the budget by tens of thousands of dollars without any changes to the scope of work and without any correlating increase in material cost. Their work was of poor quality and significant parts of it needed to be redone at our cost. Their billing is convoluted and mired with inconsistencies, making it hard to understand. After careful review, we found that we were billed for items that were never provided and were double billed for other items.HWG Services’ work on our property failed inspection numerous times. Although they guaranteed they would fix their work after being unable to pass even rough inspection they quit the job. Despite quitting, they still wanted payment in full for work they left half done and in need of substantial revision just to pass inspection.And this is just the short list...What we learned the hard way is to read the negative reviews first. In HWG services case we found the negative reviews to be very similar to our experience with them, from the lack of attention to details, to not filing for a permit, to a budget that just kept inflating, to the lack of respect for our property.Service: Remodeling

We hired HWG to do a small sunroom addition, replacement windows, and new siding. Overall, it was a pretty discouraging ordeal, and not something we would want others to experience.I will say that the owner of HWG and each of the three different project managers that worked on our home over the last year were all very friendly and pleasant to talk with. And I think the owner did do a pretty good job of creating the original estimate.But ultimately mismanagement and lack of attention to detail waisted immense amounts of our time and left us with a lower quality finished project.The following are areas where they repeatedly struggled:1. Ordering materials.For example, they measured our window openings numerous times. We met with the owner at their offices to review the window package. And then they accidentally ordered windows that were the same size as the rough opening. Rather than doing the right thing and reordering the correct sized windows, they had their handyman try to jam the windows into the openings. This resulted in parts of the vinyl being chipped off, windows that didn’t open or close smoothly, and windows that are not level or plumb.They also ordered the wrong quantity and style of LP SmartSide siding. We had to wait months for them to correct this issue, and the poor siding subcontractor would show up week after week and not be able to work because they didn’t have the materials to do their job. At one point they even ordered and installed LP Multi-Use panels instead of actual LP SmartSide panels. We had to point out that LP Multi-Use panels specific say they are not for residential use. It’s hard to imagine that their construction team wouldn’t know the difference, so it left us wondering if they were trying to cut corners to save costs.2. Accuracy with billing.Early and often we would be billed for work that had not been done. Even though his was a specific violation of the contract they had sent us and we had signed. We were also invoiced for work we had already paid for. And when they made mistakes with ordering way too many bundles of shingles or multiple roll-off dumpsters at a time, they would try to pass those costs off to us. Because nobody at HWG seemed to be paying close attention to the billing, we were left reviewing for accuracy and timeliness. This was also true with how HWG paid their subcontractors. We had multiple subcontractors come to use because they couldn’t get HWG to pay them even though HWG had cashed our check for the work months earlier. In fact, the excavation subcontractor was so frustrated he threatened to put a Mechanics Lien on our house if we couldn’t get HWG to pay them.3. Honesty.One of the most discouraging parts of working with HWG was when they sent us an additional bill for thousands of dollars to cover extra costs of lumber that they had underestimated. We paid the additional costs. But then our neighbors informed us that the HWG workers were helping themselves to large bundles of the new lumber at our job site. We installed home security cameras and found multiple times when the HWG workers would help themselves to significant amounts of the new lumber. We informed the project managers, and the surveillance videos were also sent via email directly to the owner of HWG. We did not receive a reply. It is a frustrating experience to pay additional costs for lumber and then have HWG turn around and use that lumber for other purposes.Our project was projected to take 6 months to complete, but ended up taking 12. In that year we went through three different project managers because the first two were let go. After all of that, we were given an informal apology and a subpar finished protect.We don’t want to tell people they shouldn’t work with HWG. We truly do hope our bad experiences was the exception and not the norm. But we would recommend that if you do choose to work with HWG, you document everything in writing, take detailed photos of every step in the process, and seek second opinions if something doesn’t sound or look quite right.

She was incredibly helpful working with our warranty claim process, clearly communicating the budget and completed the job quickly, on time and within budget. If you like inviting someone into your house for a bid, then wait for them to get back to you with it, and they never do, then HWG is the company for you. I tried calling them asking about it and they would take my name and number and I wouldn't hear anything. I guess they're not too different than a lot of contractors in town I've tried dealing with. If it's not a big enough job for them, they'll just ghost you. Just be professional enough to call and tell me that.

Every once in awhile you will come across a company that well exceeds your best expectations. I found this to be ever true in all areas with my experience with HWG. Adam, Trevor, Jack, John and others truly worked with me and made me feel like family thru the entire experience of my job. When they said they would be there and said what they were gonna do, not only did they do it BUT did it better and in a very reasonable amount of time than expected. At the end of the job they did a very thorough walk thru and made sure all was correct based on the work done in comparison to the contract and agreement. HWG has a loyal customer here forever more with me. I would and will recommend them and all on there team for any furture work at my personnel home as well as any and all of my family and friends. We found that Adam tends to prioritize personal construction projects over client projects. Additionally, our project ended being substationally more expensive and took significantly more time than we originally agreed on. Lastly, they lacked the attention to detail that was originally sold to us. We would not recommend their services to others.
