We had an amazing time on the 3 hour snowmobile tour. The guide, Derek was awesome and helpful. He had everyone sing Happy Birthday to our son at the top of the mountain! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

Very friendly crew with a good operation. Machines were basically new and in good condition. Just remember if engineer pass isn't open, you can't linger if you wanna go to lake city and grab lunch if you wanna make it back on time...we had Twinkies and zebra cakes for lunch because we couldn't make it lol...

We had an amazing experience with Rock Pirates. Asked for advice on where to go and the crew put us on a route that was just under 4 hours for our trip. Went up to the California Pass and back, 12,960ft. Views were amazing and the equipment worked flawlessly. Totally recommend and would rent from again. Thanks guys for making this a truly great adventure!

A MUST DO. Best place to rent from, best price in town and great machines. Great staff too. I didn’t ask, the lady saw my military ID after I already gave her my CC and then gave me a significant discount. If you are here you have to ride the trails through the mountains, when will you get another chance to do something so epic!!! AGAIN… A MUST DO ADVENTURE.

Simply an awesome day! This is the second time for us snowmobiling with the Ice Pirates and this time was better than the first. It snowed our whole drive up and throughout our session and the other people in our group had canceled, so our guide Taylor took the three of us out for a special tour. Taylor was polite, professional and patient throughout. Machines are all in excellent operating order, greeting tent warm, hot chocolate after our outing was a welcomed warm up. If I could give more stars I would! Just a word for future clients - be ready to tip your guides generously because they earn it. Thanks for a most excellent outing!

Super friendly and helpful employees. We were alittle late and they called to remind/check if we were still coming...that was perfect. They were all setup and ready for us when we arrived. Quick check in and check out process. Nice warming hut after the ride on a cool rainy afternoon!

Took my wife and mother in law out today, and we completed the entire Alpine Loop. Jason took great care of us. I rented a brand new machine, aka "The General". It was a blue bird day and just amazing. Then General has a fantastic suspension and great climbing power. I have completed the loop before on my dual sport, but this was a great way to spend the day with my family.. I highly recommend you rent from them...

We had an awesome time renting from Rock Pirates. We did an all day rental and did the Alpine Loop. Booking was easy, check in was quick. The staff were knowledgeable about the UTV and the route we wanted to take, and spent most of check in making sure we were all set. They also provide a satellite messenger that can be used to summon help anywhere on the trail if you have a breakdown. We didn't need to use it, but it was good for peace of mind. Overall we were very pleased and will rent again.

Seriously the best money I've spent in a while! We had a wonderful time and we're in awe of the views. Jason was very helpful in running us through everything and sending us on our way for a day of the most fun. Of course now we "need a rzr" 🤣

We rented two snowmobiles for a 3 hour tour and it was a great time for our family of 4. Our guide Derek was friendly and made the tour fun and exciting. These are not old worn down snowmobiles they were all brand new for the 23-24 season and handled great. I would highly recommend this for any skill level and it gets you off the beaten path to see areas you wouldn't normally see.

I have never ridden on or driven an ATV before today and I have to tell you- this was by far one of the most fun and beautiful things I have ever done! I will cherish the memories made today with my family and friends forever. We got in a little late, around 10am. They have to shuttle you up to the beginning of the trail due to a change in law from November 2021. They don’t allow ATV/OHV use in town. So, it takes 15 min to get up to the area where you will get your ATV and be fitted for a helmet.Bring rain gear, hoodies, hat, sunscreen, charger for your phone or battery pack. The lunch provided was very good and we did bring more water and snacks. Recommend you do the same also.Since we left late, we had to rush a bit and not stop and see as much as we wanted but this did NOT deter from the sheer awesomeness of the trip. It is beautiful. I cannot convince you of this from photos or a video. You have to see if for yourself. The drive is bumpy. It is fun. It is on the edge of very tall mountains. I made my family scared by my driving- I guess I drive too fast and too close to the edge. I had so much fun! There are bathrooms along the way if needed. We found the maps useful. We did not use our phone map with the app at all. We probably shouldhave- but there are signs and it is pretty easy. Take Alpine loop to Animas Fork- see the ghost town- go to Cinnamon Pass and take that to Lake City. Drive through Lake City and follow sign to Engineer Pass. At the top of Engineer Pass- look ahead of where you going and you will see the trial go off to the right. This is Odom Point- you MUST MAKE TIME to stop there. It is the best view! People get married there and I see why. Then follow the trail back. We got rained on on the way back and it was COLD on the hot summer day. My hands got so cold I couldn’t feel them. I also got soaked and covered in mud. I had so much fun but would have been happier if I had listened to my husband and brought rain gear.Rock Pirate employees were so helpful and nice and we are so grateful for all their help and advice. I would highly recommend them for any adventure!

We had the best time driving the Alpine Loop in a RZR...the vehicle was top-notch, the staff was top-notch, the views and terrain were second to none. I just can't recommend Rock Pirates more. This is definitely a bucket-list worthy adventure!

So glad I did this! I ended up in Silverton for a couple of nights, and this experience was the highlight of my stay. Even though this was my first time in an off-road vehicle, the staff was so upbeat, positive, and professional that I instantly felt at ease. I had a few spots in mind that I wanted to visit, and the staff did an amazing job helping me put together a map and getting me set up with everything I’d need. I saw so many beautiful parts of the San Juan and Uncompahgre Forests that I never would have seen without this experience. Hands down the best rental trip experience I’ve ever booked, and so worth the investment. Thank you to the wonderful Rock Pirates team for being the absolute best!

Good outfit with new machines and great service. We called after closing the day before, and they adjusted to get us in a razor the next morning on really short notice. We're experienced off-roaders (Jeeps) and know the area well, but I thought the included GPS was a nice addition for those less familiar. Give yourself a full day and enjoy. The ride was much better than expected (better than a Jeep) and the Razors are super capable.Be aware the GPS resolution isnt great so some trails don't show or are obscured by the 5 mile wide map labels. Make sure (and it's always a good practice) to bring your topo maps and trail guides (I recommend the Colorado Backroads and 4 Wheel Drive Trails: Southwest Region book - it's comprehensive and include sites and history).Lots of fun and we'll be back!

Several years in a row we have rented from Rock Pirates, equipment is perfect, staff is very knowledgeable and way friendly. Another great day 9-22 on the Alpine loop. The new pick up and return location esealy affords you an additional 40 minutes of fun. Don't miss out on these guys, they have all the fun!

Great Adventure, but ask for directions before you leave, no signs and GPS (provided) is confusing. We took the 2 hour trip (2.75 hrs) we got lost but had a fantastic time finding our way out, on some of the most epic trails in the region. Great staff, easy check in loved it so much bought a hat.

Update 8/2019Updated to 3 stars. I was contacted by Erick in regards to the charges, and in playing phone tag we were unable to fully connect by phone to discuss. They did refund the charges (which is a solid and appreciated), but I was never able to speak directly with him to understand the process/notification for renters and how they might help ensure renters are aware of how they assess "damage" vs "expected wear" of tires and other items on a off-road rental vehicle. The original intent of the review and still an open item is the focus on setting the understanding clearly with customers so they aren't surprised on items that could be considered part of the usage vs clear neglect/damage. The checkout guy was quick to say "well that's our "rules"" and didn't have any info to support from when we checked in or a process to understand. A simple suggestion that I pointed Jim at Polaris Adventures was a sample tire with the areas highlighted to show, or even some pictures for example of damage vs wear.Original ReviewRiders and renters beware of using a rented RZR on the Alpine Loop trails and being charged for small pinhole in still obvious tread use area of tire by Rock Pirates staff. While driving Hurricane Pass on the Alpine Loop (see pictures) we discovered the passenger right side tire had a small hole and was leaking. We stopped and inspected the tire and confirmed a small hole that was leaking. A Jeep guy behind us gave us some air while we carefully plugged the tire to keep doing any damage or other issues. We immediately preceded back to the rental place to ensure they were aware and see if the pressure was ok and that no other issues existed . Keep in mind the alpine loop is full of rocks and sharp object so majority of the units tires for rentals are chunked, slit, and obviously well used by the trail conditions. We were honest and showed them exactly the location and talked with the manager. He said sorry that’s sidewall damage and you will be paying for full repair. $390.10 was what was rung up on top of $425 rental fee + $15 premier insurance which we had purchased. After making him aware that we would be leaving a review and pictures he reluctantly agreed to go half of the $390.10 tire “damage” fee so in the end we got charged $425 rental +$15 insurance + $150.65 for “damaged tire”. As a former Polaris race team member, and now owning a business that supplies to Polaris I am very very disappointed with how Rock Pirates handled this issue. As I was personally referred by a Polaris executive friend to this Polaris Adventures associate store I would have expected much better and I will be making her aware of how this was handled. Most importantly our next return to Silverton (with family next month) we will not be returning to Rock Pirates and will ensure that we prepare anyone who asks of our experience of the possible outcome. The start of the rental was good, the decent state of the units, knowledge by Jody and her husband (shop workers) was good, and the beauty of Silverton and Alpine Loop were unfortunately soured by the finality of the day for doing the right thing and trying to take care for the unit like my own personal ones. As a small business owner I would have reviewed the situation, handled it differently, and saved my “damage” fees for real circumstances and those who are careless. I am hoping the owner Erick Loyer will hopefully see this review and consider a follow up. I will update if so.
