We hired Custom Colonial to paint several walls of our house that had been weathered.After being hired they sent a staff member (now ex-staff member) to color match to our house's existing color. He asked if we had any cans of exterior paint and was shown an existing can of paint in our shed that looked similar to the house color. We informed him that it had been purchased by someone who wasn't a painting professional and that it wasn't used on the house. Custom Colonial's rep told us it was almost certainly the same color and took the color code off of this can of paint to match. We agreed that this was OK as long as he double checked the color to a sample from the house itself and didn't rely solely on the can of paint as we didn't trust it. This was a huge mistake on our part.Of course he only used the paint code on the can and lied about checking it to a paint sample from the house. Thanks to this Custom Colonial painted part of our house the wrong color and now it does not match the rest of our house!The same rep repeatedly told us that the color matched perfectly while the painting was being done and immediately after the painting was finished, which gaslit us into believing that everything was fine in the immediate aftermath of the job.It was only once the paint had fully dried and the season changed to winter that we realized that the color didn't match. It was the same shade as the house paint, but a notably warmer tone. This difference is hard to see when there are leaves on the trees and there is green grass next to the walls, but glaringly obvious in the winter months when the house is no longer under foliage. We've even had another painting company spot it from down the street and mention it to us!I called the owner of Custom Colonial about this issue once we realized how bad it was and also brought up some areas of peeling paint that were failing several months after the job. This was my second mistake.He complained to me about his ex-employee who had supervised the work (who he claimed was no longer in the country), claimed that it was a "he-said, she-said situation" that was unresolvable, blamed us for the lack of matching color because we agreed to let his employee match to the codes on the can of paint in the first place (it was indeed my mistake to trust that his employee would actually double check and was competent to color match paint) and then complained that the thousands of dollars we had paid Custom Colonial for the work based on the quote they provided to us had been too small of a job to have been worth his time in the first place.He eventually agreed to come out to look at the house but never did and has since stopped returning calls.As far as positives, they did at least do the work they were paid for and were reasonably professional when they were on site. I feel like as bad as this situation was the painting itself was fine if not great and a we could have resolved it by painting a couple hundred square feet of our house to match the new color so the color mismatch issue is less noticable. Unfortunately we never got to the part where the customer was satisfied.From my perspective Custom Colonial did a poor job of matching the color (and a mediocre job of scraping and sanding based on what other painting companies we have consulted with have told us).I feel like it was sloppy work that was badly supervised and the owner refused to take responsibility for what seems like a troublesome ex-employee. Perhaps the rest of their work is up to a much higher standard but they should still own their work better than this and have better supervision in the future.Update: The owner highlights my issue in the way that they responded. CC bid and took the job so it's a it bit late to give a PSA about not doing it now. Custom Colonial bought the paint. Our only instruction to them was to match the house and they claimed to have done so during and immediately after the work. The owner can't say much about the color as he never bothered coming out to look at the work.

Custom Colonial Painting did an excellent job with preparing and painting our primary bedroom and bathroom. The three person crew spent about 4 days prepping the walls, removing the old wallpaper, and painting everything -- from the ceiling to the trim to the closet shelving.We decided to go with Custom Colonial Painting after receiving a fair and reasonable estimate. The entire process was extremely smooth and quick. The crew's meticulous attention to detail and communication with me put my mind at ease. We had a terrible experience with this company. We had the exterior of our house painted one year ago. The entire ordeal was a nightmare as the company painted both the entire house and the trim the incorrect color TWO time without any explanation, acknowledgement or apology from the owner, AJ. They also painted the foundation the incorrect color, painted our brownstone steps without asking and washed out brushes and rollers into the grass which we eventually had to have dug out because the lawn was so saturated with paint for several months. We reached out to AJ several times trying to resolve the issues of the incorrect colors, etc and he avoided communicating with us. After several weeks he threw his crew under the bus by vaguely blaming them and leaving them to communicate with us and to try and fix it, in broken English, even though all project correspondences took place with AJ and our color choice had been in writing to him since before the project began. The crew painted in extremely humid weather without allowing for proper drying time between coats (several coats needed to be done since the wrong color was used twice) and one year later the paint is now peeling and chipping off the entire exterior of our house. We paid full price for this job, we were never offered an explanation, apology or discount, and the owner failed to take any responsibility or communicate with us at all in any professional way. We are now having to hire another company to paint our house properly one year after paying this company full price for an exterior paint job. The painting company we have on schedule to fix this has ensured us that the job they are fixing was not done properly. AJ replied to an inquiry about this issue with a dismissive, arrogant and unprofessional email indicative of his attitude and lack of responsibility and accountability during our entire experience with him.EDIT in response to the owner below: a warranty was NEVER mentioned or offered to us at any point - not once - and the wrong color paint was applied to our house multiple times. This was NOT a matter of the store mixing the wrong color because of Covid (and we were never given that explanation before) - we had repeatedly provided the Benjamin Moore color and code (Simply White OC-117 - which is a popular cream) in writing to AJ, who confirmed it multiple times, but when the house was painted a generic primer white, his response (eventually - when we finally got one) was that he thought "Simply White OC-117" meant "just regular primer color white" and he "didn't realize that was a color"). We eventually hired a far more professional company to fix this job and we have been thrilled with their work / they did a great job. We have had no issues whatsoever with the work of the professional company we had hired, even now years later.Service: Exterior painting

We recently had our exterior trim painted by Custom Colonial Painting, and they did a wonderful job. I could not have asked for a more professional job. The crew arrived on time and ready to work, but only after Eduardo reviewed everything that needed to be done with the crew. The job took two days, and after it was determined they were finished, a walk around was done with my husband and myself to be sure everything was to our liking. The two workers, Marcel and Rafael, were courteous and did extremely neat work. When we are ready to have our interior rooms repainted, I will request this crew. Wonderful work, great attitude, very interested in pleasing us, and they certainly did. Great company!

After trying to solicit bids from about a half-dozen relatively local painting contractors (and getting only 3 responses), we settled on Custom, out of Durham, who gave us the best estimate to scrape, sand, and paint a 3-storey turn-of-the-century home and agreeing to 'bundle' in a new-construction barn. It was late in the season - early October - when they began, but were blessed by great weather (mostly - one week of rain). The whole process took a little over 4 weeks. The lion's share of work was done by a single, very efficient, hard working, and polite young man, Oriel. From time to time, he was assisted by one or two others. He was always on-site on time and rarely left before 6 pm, after carefully cleaning up after himself and his helpers. Towards the end of the project, a foreman made two separate visits to inspect the progress and quality of the work. Finally, the Project Manager, Dave, came out - once to walk the site around and marked a number of areas he felt were not 'up to standard' (I was astonished ! I had noted a couple myself, but figured that was to be expected. No big deal. I can touch them up myself next spring... Too fussy to bother them with.). The foreman (also a very nice man) came the next day and made the fixes, after which Dave returned and we repeated the walk-around inspection a second time. A SPECTACULAR job these folks did !!! Everyone from Custom Colonial we encountered was the definition of professional: quality and detail oriented, punctual, tidy and polite. We would absolutely recommend them to family, friend, or stranger alike.Service: Exterior painting
