Boris was an incredible help to us. On Monday, he came to fix a kitchen cupboard door. He then went to the hardware store, and upon not being able to find the hinge, he made sure to order it. And by Friday he was back to install it. Both times he was friendly and timely. Altogether a professional and a great guy, and he did an excellent job! I look forward to hiring him again. This company should be absolutely ashamed of how much they charge elderly customers. My older coworker was talking to me about how much she was charged for a simple service, and it was more than 1k. Taking advantage of people who have no choice but to ask for help is a terrible business practice. She may not have made a fuss while paying, but I know this place is shady!

I was able to add additional work and the building of an ikea bed frame. Martha was professional and worked hard making sure everything was as I wanted it. Update: The towel and the AC being too small is definitely not the reason. In fact, it's been confirmed as a tuckpointing issue. You guys just weren't up for the job, and with a reasonable price.I have a leaky wall below my AC unit at my condo. They want to charge 240 for the first hour (which is the minimum) then like 130 every hour after that, then they mentioned mark ups on supplies… they then told me they couldn’t really do anything but caulk the window, which we can easily do ourselves. I don’t know why, but so many Chicago based repair and handy companies seem like they don’t want your business, or you need to jump through hoops just to get what you need. Do they not need business? Monastic, yeah, great business model. “You need us more than we need you, basically. I went with a freelance handyman. That’s the other thing: these big companies are just receptionists and bureaucratic mark ups. These guys are the Pep Boys of home repair, and you need to go to a real independent repair shop for the real service.

Got gouged and won't be back! We had a small amount of vinyl siding blow off of our garage during some of the bad weather we've had recently. I work for a general contractor and am wrapping up a multi-million dollar project and had hoped we could rely on a handyman to take care of a simple job since I don't have the time right now. I was wrong. I asked my girlfriend to book these guys after reviewing several handymen and thought Mr. Handyman's reviews were pretty positive. If I remember correctly the original quote was between $225-$475. The day of I get a call from my girlfriend saying the tech, Richard, wants more money. I talk to him and he says it's going to be an extra $180 for hardware that he already purchased (without permission). I ask him what the problem is and he mumbles something about the old hardware not really working out. At the time on my job site, I have multiple foremen and client representatives in front of me and don't have time to be negotiating with Richard over $180 so I tell him to proceed. A couple hours later my girlfriend calls me again saying that the work is done and that they want over $1000 for what should have been a simple repair. I tell her to reject that, she tells Richard, and he asks if I can call the office. I call the office and tell them that I'm being gouged by one of their handymen. The receptionist tells me she'll call back after they can speak to Richard. Within the hour an office manager calls me back saying she thought there was a miscommunication between dealing with my girlfriend and I and Richard thought he was to replace all of the vinyl siding. After I got home and spoke to my girlfriend she made it clear to me that in no uncertain terms she communicated to Richard that the siding was to be "patched" and not "replaced" which I believe because she and I previously had a conversation about dealing with these guys. The office manager was quick to start negotiating a lower price and this made me wonder if Richard and the office manager have found themselves in this position before. We negotiated a price under $1000 but still several hundred dollars more than it should have been because the vinyl siding was all there and did not need to be replaced. Mr. Handyman still has given me no real explanation as to why Richard felt the whole thing needed to be replaced, photos, or receipts of any of the material that was purchased. It is my opinion that Richard saw my girlfriend as somebody he could take advantage of not knowing her boyfriend works in the industry. These people must need to get it drilled into their heads that some of us out here are not hiring them because we can't do the work ourselves. We are hiring them for convenience and getting burned by several hundred dollars for convenience is simply not worth the money or the frustration.Update: 10 months later and I see Mr. Handyman responding to everybody else's reviews but this one.Update: I got a response on 10/6 with the following...Mr. Handyman: Would this job be under someone else's name? We are trying to find you in our database, but are having no luck. Please advise!Michael Mlekowski: Yes it is. As stated in the complaint I had asked my lady to place the call. Set an appointment for an electrician to come at 8 am. At 744, I get a cancellation text and reschedule for the next day due to an emergency. I understand that emergencies happens but i took a day off, and a phone call or offering of a percentage off would have gone further with me. Just decided not to utilize service
