Furnace stopped working recently during the most recent cold spell. Called Oehl and Alex was here that afternoon. Control panel and pilot assembly were replaced and the family is nice and toasty again. Alex did a splendid job and Dana was very helpful to work with back at the office. Couldn’t be more pleased.

Oehl has been quick to respond in a number of issues I have had. I had to have a water heater replaced in two different homes and each time they made it easy to schedule and the removal and installation went quickly. The techs are knowledgeable and friendly.Next I woke up to a 50 degree house when the thermostat was set at 68. Again, within a short time they were able to make an appointment, diagnose quickly that a nest was blocking my air intake, and do a check up on the furnace.I will always make Oehl my first call for plumbing and heating.Service: Water heater installation

Had called a few other places and Oehl was the only one who could fit me in quickly. Kelly heating basically told me to pound sand since I didn’t have a service contract. Came out the next day, fixed my ac and had a new capacitor installed in about an hour. The skills required for the job are what you pay for and the value is good. They, unlike many, did not push for me to get an entire new unit when it wasn’t needed. A trustworthy bunch, I would use them again.Service: A/C system maintenance

Quoted us $800 to replace a water heater. Ended up billing us for $2600 when all was said and done. Water heater FAILED within 12 months. Called another company to fix and found out Oehl purchased the DIY water heater from local Lowe’s. Not the professional grade.

It was a hot July night.. I was alone at my house scared and slightly anxious. I went to use my garbage disposal and bam! She stopped working.. nervously I called around and finally settled on contacting Oehl. The next day I had a young gentle show up at my door. Late 20s, semi fit, brown hair, not very tall though. He asked what the problem was and I walked over and pointed at my dirty little garbage disposal. He took a look at it, and within 20-30 minutes had it fixed. Very professional, competitive pricing for sure. 10/10 would recommend. Not only did he fix it but he also went over proper maintenance.Service: General repairs

Had a strange noise coming from the closet where my water heater is located. I assumed it was the tank filling up, but when I came home from work I could hear the same noise. Without taking a good look, I called Oehl Plumbing, Heating and Cooling and spoke with Mike. He asked if I could send him a picture of the water heater. I took a short video of the whole water heater and sent it to him. He immediately noticed that there was a pin hole in one of the braided metal hoses and the noise I was hearing was a small, steady stream of water spraying to the back of the closet. It was not 20 minutes later he was at my front door and ready to repair the hose. He was not only prompt, but very friendly, neat in appearance and knowledgeable. Before leaving he noticed my air conditioning unit was louder than usual. He asked me a few questions and then headed outside to take a look at the unit. Mind you this is after hours, so it is already dark outside. He got out a trouble light, hooked up some kind of testing meter and noted that it was low on Freon. He added Freon and it was amazing the difference in the sound of the unit running. Not only was the unit now quiet, but my home was cooler and the air did not run as often. Thank you Oehl Plumbing & Heating for your continued service and quality workmanship. And thank you very much Mike for a job well done. You definitely went above and beyond and it was much appreciated!

Contacted them for a Leaky tub faucet, rusty plate, and drain. They set up an appointment pretty quick, and fixed the leaky faucet. They took had to take a trip and after all was said and done my tub was still leaking the same as it was before and they left my place super dirty. I asked the plumber how much he though it was going to be he said no more than $500 which I thought was pretty overpriced considering they were unable to fix the problem and only spent a couple hours at my place. I didn't receive a bill for few months and when it finally came in it was $642.66. Total rip off. I would not recommend Oehl to anyone. Stay away!Services: Drain cleaning, General repairs

I chose find and repair leak as the service they preformed but they did neither. Neighbor underneath said they had water coming through the ceiling near the entry. So my landlord called Oehl to see what the problem was. Please do not make the same mistake, do not do business with Oehl.When they arrive I told them that we have no visible water coming out anywhere. Ignoring what I said they just start looking at the water heater spending 5-10 min removing a door that did not have to be removed to see the water heater/ ac unit. They never put this door back on and left it for me to put back on. They proceeded to run everything that produces water for the next 25 min. Finding nothing as I had already told them that nothing shows visible water leakage. They take 5-10 min to cut a hold in my under neighbors ceiling. Come up and say oh it looks like water is coming from the sink area.get changed 225 dollars...150 for 40-45 min of labor(30-35 min of this wasted time) (removing a door that did not have to be removed? checking all the water that I had already said shows no water leakage? and then the only actual work cutting a hole and looking where the water came from...) and not replacing the door they removed when finished and leaving a hole in my neighbors ceiling.50 dollars for driving (looked up location they are 7 min away)Ridiculous charges...wasting 30-35 min figuring out what I already told them, getting nothing done (they were not even sure it was the dishwasher when they left....but that's what they wrote down), and leaving stuff more broken then when they arrived...Service: Plumbing leak detection

If you have the choice Id call someone else! Had these folks sent to my property by Home Shield , two very inexperienced techs spent the better part of an hour on the phone with a third party going over how to diagnose the issue. The Techs left in the middle of the service call to go get the trucks oil changed. The Techs came back some time later with the owner who was very rude and talked down multiple times to his employees while cussing at them. Supposedly had the issue fixed ...Started having the same problems, called the office to have them tell me there was other problems and that they refuse to take a look or further work on the unit because of it being a warranty Claim. Have since had Colony Heating and Cooling out to fix the Issue.Service: HVAC system maintenance

My wife and I called Oehl to come look at our water heater that wasn't working. When the tech arrived he said it would probably need replaced and I told him to let me know what he figures out on it. A hour and a half later the tech knocks on my door and hands me a bill for $1300.. no explanation on what the issue was with the old one and why it can't be repaired, no estimate, no options, no confirmation from me to replace the old one with a new water heater. We chose this company because their website says they offer estimates and service all brands so you can get "best bang for your buck." Nothing was discussed and we ended up with a new $890 water heater installed without our go ahead. No options or more affordable brands were discussed prior to the install. My wife and I own a 900 Sq ft condo and are selling soon, I certainly wouldn't have put a near $900 dollar water heater in when I could have purchased a $450 one from lowes and had a plumber install it. When I called about the bill I was told that type of heater is the standard one they install in homes and they would take $200 off the bill. My wife and I are very displeased with the communication and service and would not use this company again. I would never expect to take my car to a mechanic for a rattling noise and have them hand me a bill for a new engine they installed without discussing repairs prior... same concept

Had my A/C repaired for about 50% of what I would have paid if I had gone to another local company. Alex, the gentleman who was working on my A/C was very respectful and professional.Because this was a major repair, I informed them two visits were likely needed. (They were both done within about 24 hours of one another)They had completed the job on the second day before I finished my lunch.Will probably only go to Oehl in the future, very satisfied.

Oehl came to our house March 1, 2020 to look at a problem with our fireplace. They charged us $149 and said they would have to order a part. They came back on March 30 with the new part and charged an additional $529. We didn't use the fireplace much until this November. By December, it was showing the same problem with which we originally called Oehl. We were just told that they would charge another service call to check out the problem and that the part was only warranted for 1 month. What a waste of nearly $700! Nice gentlemen that did the service. However, I paid for them to clean and service my furnace and two gas fireplaces. They never even turned the fireplaces on and the furnace is now making a noise it didn't before. I was not confident they were as I knowledgeable as I would hope. I already knew our system was getting old and will need replacing. Then I just wanted it fixed for the short term and kept getting warned it was going to cost a lot. Even before he knew what was really wrong. Guess what, it cost a lot. Fine but he left me saying he didn’t know if the heat will work or not but AC is back working. Great, I guess we will find out come fall if we don’t schedule a replacement system that he said could be 15 or 20k. Sounds excessive but something we would like to plan for. So our AC system is working and maybe our heat will come on when we need it. Great and did I mention it cost just what he was predicting, before he even knew what was wrong. Nice they sent someone the next day but I will try another place next time, probably when my heat doesn’t come on this fall. Well here we are 9/29 and the first cold snap. Tried my heater and guess what?? It did not work. My fault for not checking right after the AC was fixed and the Technician said "I don't know if the heat will work or not." He said this as he was leaving, again reminding me that our system was old and needed to be replaced. Well, Davis Heating and Cooling of Iowa City just left and the heat is back on. Seems that a wire that would turn the heater on was missing. Imagine that! How in the world would that short piece of wire just get up and walk away? The wire was replaced and the Davis guy actually checked the heat ex-changer and for CO2, didn't just speculate because it was an old system. I always recommend getting second opinions, so if you still use Oehl, I highly recommend a second opinion before you replace anything.

Beware. Not very upfront about what services are gonna cost. Weekend call cost $127 service call and then another $127 labor charge For a total bill of $272 with no parts involved. Not bad for one hours worth of work. One week later needed another service call on a weekend but used a different company. They replaced the igniter in the furnace and where they're about the same amount of time and charges only $125. I will never use their services again.Reply to your reply.The tech was not up front about the cost When I call he never rates. He never mentioned anything about a service call in addition to an hourly rate. The only thing that the Tech cleaned my furnace was putting his mouth on one of the tubes and blowing on it. I watched him the whole time. Nothing else was cleaned. Upon leaving I asked him what the bill would be and he stated it should not be more than $200 but he did not want to give me an invoice when I requested one. He said he would mail it.... I should have been suspicious then. Good thing I watch him if it happens again I will be able to fix it myself. It will be the easiest $272 I will ever not make. Live and learn. Doesn't look like I am the only one that complains about share billing practices either.

customer service was above and beyond Expectations. I contacted the owner on a Saturday Evening hoping for a quick fix over the phone. We were beyond the quick fix. I advised I would call and make an appointment for service Monday morning. I called Monday morning at 8AM. The person that answered phone asked for my name and advised me I was on the schedule already (awesome), she also advised that the Technician was in route to my house. During the recent freeze, our furnace stopped giving heat, although the fan worked. They showed up, and diagnosed the problem which was NOT with the furnace, but with the way the townhouse is built, with the exhaust pipe on the roof allowing some moisture in, which froze up, causing the heat valve to stick. They climbed into the attic, and did what they needed to do to loosen what was frozen, It took several hours to work through all the things that it could have been inside the furnace. It takes a lot of experience to trace a problem so far from where the problem seems to be, and to then fix that. On top of it, the bill was incredibly reasonable. When you're up against it, as we were, with the temp in house plummeting, it's good to know where to find these guys. We bought the furnace from them six years ago, and would do that again too.Services: Installation, Repair HVAC

I see on your web site you only post the good reviews.Well I am contesting my bill with my credit card company. On Dec 28 I had a frozen water pipe that burst spraying water everywhere. Just bought a house and heat stopped working so I called them to see what was wrong. Guys seemed to do a good job when they got to the house but the lady who gave me prices on the phone.... well would have heen nice to have a heads up about the other fees so I would 't have been so in shock about a $300+ bill for tonight when I was told around 150s. I guess it was ok to use my horses buckets and dog food bowls to put whatever nasty stuff they found in boiler without asking was ok also... guess ill have to buy new ones....
