Although we ended up not building, Don made the decision VERY hard for us to choose otherwise. Everything and anything we needed he was right there with some advise and help, he bent over backwards to help us get to where we wanted to be. I would HIGHLY recommend Homes by Brill to any and everyone who wants to find their forever. 2 months into our house renovation I think I’ve said “why didn’t we build with Don” about 1000 times!

We've been in our new home for just over a month now and we LOVE it!!! Don was our 3rd builder...meaning we tried with two other companies that assured us that they could build a house we could afford. After paying for blueprints, neither house was close to the cost we were originally given. With Don, we didn't have that issue. He was up front about all the potential costs. We also got more with our house plan from Don than we would have from the other two builders AND we paid less in the long run. We also appreciated that we didn't have to use the exact house plans that were initially shown to us. We were able to change them to fit what we wanted. We are very happy that we went with Homes by Brill!

My wife and I just completed our first ever custom home build, and I must say that the experience was a good one. We were referred to Don by a co-worker of my wife's that said he was good to work with. He came as advertised. He was honest, upfront, and easy to work with. No question was a dumb question, and he explained everything in simple terms, which made the entire process easy for us. He was always accessible if we needed to call and ask questions, and his door was always open for a meeting if needed. Sure, some small issues came up, but that will happen with building a new home. Don was quick to rectify the situation and keep us up to speed on the fix, which never took long to complete. When the home was completed we were in awe of the detail that was put in to it. He built it like he was building his own home. We have been in the new house for a month now, and could not be happier with everything, and with Don. We look forward to many years in this home he built. We always told him he was "building forever" during the construction process, and that is EXACTLY what he delivered. We never plan on leaving this wonderful new home!!! I would not hesitate to recommend Don to anyone wanting to build a new home. Thanks "Don the builder!!!"

This was our first home building experience and we had to learn fast because Home By Brill made us do most of the work. Caught SEVERAL issues in the construction before they did, had to call all the contractors ourselves to work out the issues and the quality was average at best. When things DO go wrong it is somehow your fault even though they promote themselves on specializing first time buyers. We would not recommend because we're not sure what we paid the general contractor for.

Mary Jo K thinks homebuilding with Homes By Brill is “Sooooo much fun” because she is the Office Manager from Homes By Brill. She works 10 feet from the owner. How shady is that? The truth is these homes are garbage. Brill built our home and it’s falling apart. The owner knows better than you no matter how strange something seems or how many times you’ve done this in the past. Of course you don’t need house wrap he said! Pictures of the mold and rot have been added to the images gallery. We have to replace the sheathing (rotted away), some insulation, the siding, and all of the stone work. We had to add the house wrap that is a common practice for everyone else and likely against code. We also had to remove the windows so they could be properly wrapped. The work was sub par at best. Things that are homebuilding 101 and would have taken minimal time to ensure the best quality were skipped. For example, house wrap, flashing the stone work, and ensuring the step flashing on the roof was installed properly. Now we're left with a rotting house that cost us $350,000 to start with and now at least another $10,000 to fix his work.DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

I've been fortunate enough to work alongside Don Brill for nearly 20-years in the Des Moines area building industry and can unequivocally attest to his high moral and ethical character and vast and skillful knowledge of the home building process. It's an honor to play a part in producing a Homes by Brill project - an honor that always leads to a very satisfied homeowner.
