Tyler showed up out of the blue and asked if we had any roof damage from a recent hail storm. I told him I didn't think so but we knew we needed to replace the roof at some point so I said as long as it didn't cost anything he could go up there and take a look. When he was done he said we did have some damage and he helped us start a claim with our insurance. I figured that was the end of it. I didn't expect insurance would cover any of the damage but he told me to let him know when the insurance inspector was scheduled to come by and he would show up to make sure he saw everything he noted. What do you know, our claim was approved and I owe that to Tyler. He was great every step of the process. He even went out of his way to grab some samples when we weren't sure about the color of shingle we wanted. He walked us through the whole process and made sure that everything went according to schedule and followed up on every question and concern we had. The roofing crew was great. They worked their tails off. Northstar also replace our gutters. The crew that did that work was excellent too. Then he had another crew come back and fix all the wood rot that was discovered when they pulled the shingles off. That crew was outstanding too. We are now going to have them repair some other areas of wood rot on some other areas our house because we have been so impressed with their service and craftsmanship. We have been extremely pleased with the work they all did and especially with Tyler. I had noticed some ceiling stains and was so frustrated at the thought of having to have someone repair the leaks in the roof. I was working in the yard, when Damien Johnson with Northstar Contracting stopped by. The timing was amazing. He had noticed that the roof had likely been damaged from a recent hailstorm. He explained where the damage was, did the paperwork that evening and arranged for the inspection and whatever else needed to be done. He was so very thoughtful and extremely knowledgeable. The crew that did the work did a beautiful job and they cleaned up afterwards. I highly recommend Damien Johnson with Northstar contracting. We got the cold sales pitch one afternoon and sent them on their way. Turns out another neighbor signed up and had their roof and gutters replaced by them and had no negative experiences. They came back again a couple of weeks later and I entertained Tyler’s discussion. I knew our roof was aging itself out and we had a couple of storms the past year that had the possibility of damaging the roof. Sure enough, their initial inspection turned up concerns (no surprise there), and then when my insurance company did their inspection, they confirmed it all. Overall there was more damage than I expected on a 10 year old roof.The Good- Tyler is awesome to deal with- I didn’t have to find my own contractors- Overall quality seems good (they sub it all out)- Any issues I complained about were addressed quickly by TylerThe Bad- ZERO negotiation power here- Roofing crew damaged one of my grills (Northstar provided a replacement part)- Roofing crew left all kinds of nails all over the place (Northstar sent them back out to clean up)- Gutter crew left debris in bushes and yard (found multiple gutter nails hiding in the grass when I mowed)This is where Northstar somewhat gets you. They are a no hassle, walk you through the process type shop. That part is great. But, because they require a contract to be signed, you have zero negotiating power if you are looking to make any changes or save on your deductible. “If” I were to have just taken the check from my insurance company, I most likely could have shopped around the roof and gutter replacements and made up the deductible amount so it truly would have been $0 out of pocket costs. In our case we wanted to upgrade from the old 5” gutters to 6” gutters which was an upcharge. Again it was an upgrade, but if we had shopped around, it most likely would have been less out of pocket than we ended up with for the gutters and deductible.Would I recommend them? It depends. If you want the least amount of hassle, just a couple of phone calls, ready to pay out your deductible, and call it good, then yes I do recommend them. But if you have more free time and want to shop it around a bit to recoup some of your deductible, then I would suggest looking elsewhere before you sign their contract.No matter what, I would NOT recommend signing their contract until after you talk to your insurance company anyways. If you have a legit claim, your insurance company will take care of you in the first place….of course assuming your insurance company isn’t some cheese ball outfit.Services: Roof repair for storm & wind damage, Gutter installation, Roof inspection

When I have a sticker on my door that says NO SOLICITATION that means don't ring my doorbell and try to convince that I need a roof inspection because my neighbor's roof is damaged. Why would I do business with a company that can't even read the sign because the message being sent it, they don't care about local laws and ordinances. What other corners are cut? Skipping city codes for properly installing a roof? But then I began to look into Larry Miller and I was blown away with what I learned.

The overall experience started off well, then ended up pretty bad. The staff person from NorthStar Group was very helpful with walking us through the process of getting the claim started and he got the ball rolling on getting our roof repaired. However, the crew they used to repair our roof didn’t do a good job of protecting our yard and our garden. There was debris everywhere, and yes, I know it’s a construction site. However, they didn’t use enough tarps, they allowed old roofing materials to fall into the garden—which they were asked to avoid and they said they would—which resulted in some of my plants dying because they were sliced by the old shingles.The crew also left their trash all over our yard which, again I understand it’s a construction zone, but there’s a huge dumpster in the driveway. Put the trash in there. Also, they killed a decent amount of my grass by pouring something out in my lawn. They also snapped the limbs of one of my bushes and now that died.When we brought up our concerns to the rep, it didn’t get addressed. It seemed like they were more worried about getting the final payment rather than making sure we were satisfied with the job.I’m huge on customer service and I feel that in the beginning things were great. But once we signed the contract with them, they didn’t care about us or if we were satisfied with the job. They were only worried about getting that final payment.Pricing seemed fair, the materials were good, from the limited knowledge I have of the materials, and the roof is completed. There’s still debris in our yard including nails, shingles, pieces of underlay and metal. I have kids who play in the yard and they’ve found something each time they’ve went out to play and the job was completed weeks ago.Last thing is the rep that started with us is no longer with NorthStar Group. They didn’t call to let us know, and to make sure everything was taken care of. We found out because the lady that came to get the last check told me, after she got the check.I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending them to anyone.Service: Roof repair for storm & wind damage
