Our project was somewhat unconventional. We were looking to enclose our patio so that it was screened in. The trick was it would have to be a free-standing structure off of our deck. Very few companies we talked to had any interest in tackling this. From the very beginning, Horizons Unlimited assured us they could do it and do it well. Once the project was confirmed and their project team came out, they actually suggested a modification to our original idea based on their experience and expertise and, because their modification added approx. 15-20 sq. feet of usable space, we agreed. From the very first day of construction, their team was polite, professional, and meticulous. They were here every day and, on the one Friday they had to miss because of weather, they came out and worked all day Saturday to make up for the lost day.We would most definitely recommend Horizons Unlimited for your home improvement project.

We needed our main bathroom renovated and had only a week and a half to do it. Bill's team worked around the clock and over the weekend to get our bathroom done in just 10 days. I was provided a list of things to pick out and a budget for each item. Donna was great, working with me to pick things out, as I kept changing my mind. A few of the items I requested were a bit out of the ordinary; I wanted a hardwired towel warmer, a bidet attachment, and a glass shower door that swung rather than slid (Donna made sure the door would clear the toilet, something I hadn't even thought of.) They ordered everything in advance and stored it at their warehouse until the project began. One wall had to be rebuilt which they had not anticipated, but they still stayed on schedule. The workmen were courteous and great with our dogs. There was one miscommunication over the placement of one of the grab bars but Bill made sure to send someone out to get it moved.Previous jobs they've done for us include the siding on our house, the roof, the deck, and a few other small projects. Eventually we will have them do the other bathroom.

Bill and his team did a fantastic job of renovating our upstairs with new framing, insulation, drywall, electrical, and carpet. Bill is very professional and is dedicated to providing his customers with the best possible service. He and his staff are very communicative and completed our entire project in less than a month. This is the second project we have used Horizons Unlimited for, and we recommend them to anyone looking for a skilled and efficient contractor.

I am pleased to be able to write a review for Horizons Unlimited Home Improvements. From the very beginning of my home buying search, Bill Gmeinwieser was very much involved. He was one of the first contractors that I called to inquire about home renovations and/or custom built homes. I found that Bill was very direct in his approach and provided the most important feedback on the process of becoming a home owner. Additionally, his costs were not to high, but not the lowest either. Their fees were kinda of right in the middle, which is fine because you don't want a contractor that is too expensive or a contractor that has very low prices and you end up getting a you get what you pay for type of deal.Once I decided that Bill Gmeinwieser was going to be my contractor and as we began to work together, I found that everything he'd mention from our initial conversation was exactly the type of service that I was getting, plus some. Bill and his brother Mike helped give me great advice on how to negotiate for my mortgage loan. Which resulted in a purchase price for much lower than I originally bid for. Bill definitely finds ways to work with you when it comes to adding additional projects that were not part of the original contract, because his ultimate goal is to satisfy the customer.I had a complete renovation done to my home, and the house turned out very beautifully. Bill and his team worked at a very safe and steady pace, during the start of Covid-19. I was very pleased to know that all of the HUHI construction guys were practicing safety measures, when working on my home. There were no issues and I was able to safely move into my home, and that was important to me. I have gotten plenty of compliments on my home. But most importantly, I am very satisfied and can truly say that after being in my home for a little over two months now it is the most comfortable place to come home from a long days work and be able to relax in this beauty. Thank you, Bill, Mike and the rest of the Horizons Unlimited Home Improvements team. Great job!

HUI built us a stunning deck and screened in porch. From the very first meeting, Bill and his team were professional and responsive. They used top quality materials and didn't cut any corners, and they completed the whole thing incredibly quickly. HUI receives my highest recommendation.

My wife and I are first time homebuyers. When we bought our home last January we knew that we would need a complete remodel of our kitchen. It was in especially sorry shape, with cabinets literally falling apart and electrical wiring and plumbing that was out-of-code. Of course, before we could start our planned remodel COVID hit, which complicated our plans for updating our kitchen even further. In hindsight, I severely underestimated just how difficult it is to find an honest, skillful, and economic contractor. Luckily for my wife and I, Horizons Unlimited is all of those things, and so much more. The team at Horizons Unlimited is transparent and operates with absolute integrity. Bill is a handshake deal kind of guy. Old school in the absolute best way. Whenever I had a question about the project Bill would shoot it to me straight, even when it was news that I did not want to hear necessarily. For example, due to increased demand for remodeling materials, the cabinet supplier delayed delivering or our new cabinets. The Horizons team kept in constant communication with me throughout, giving me updates and outlining how they were working with the supplier to expedite my cabinets. Frankly, Bill and team were bulldogs on my behalf when it came to issues like this. Any other contractor could have easily sat idle while blaming the supplier for the delay. Not Horizons Unlimited. They looped me into their constant communications with the supplier and made sure that our project wouldn’t be delayed a single day longer than absolutely necessary. However, the single most impressive aspect of Horizons Unlimited was their integrity. People are human, and mistakes can happen. During our project one of our knobs was installed in the wrong spot. Now, it would have been easy to hide this mistake. Frankly, I may have never caught it. But that’s just not how Horizon’s Unlimited operates. As soon as it occurred, the called me up, showed me their error, and before the end of the day they had ordered a new cabinet door so that they could correct the mistake. In fact, Bill insisted that he would not accept our final check until he had fixed this issue for us. They had this fixed in less than a week and I happily delivered Bill his well-earned final check. Also, it’s worth adding that my wife and I made a mistake of our own when we were communicating with the Horizons Unlimited team in designing our kitchen. Namely, we ended up needing two cabinets that were larger, and therefore a little more expensive, than our remodel contract had planned. When the shoe was on the other foot, and we were the ones that had messed up, Horizons Unlimited refused to take our extra money. Essentially, they held us harmless for our little error, even though they took full responsibility for their small error. Like I said. The team at Horizons is honest and trustworthy to a degree that is rarely seen anymore. Their work was of the highest quality, and their prices are more than fair. I have many more remodeling projects in mind and will only ever trust my home to Bill and his team at Horizons.

We've now used Horizons Unlimited for an interior wall removal, rear door waterproofing, new deck build, and front porch build. The team is family operated and the skilled employees are both experienced and professional. Would definitely recommend this business.

Horizons Unlimited is the best company that has ever worked on our home. They were professional, reliable, courteous,hard-working and simply a pleasure to work with. They did an excellent job renovating our basement and repairing multiple things inside and outside of our home. You can depend on them to give fair estimates and do high-quality work. Every single member of their staff that we interacted with are amazing individuals. They are simply the best. We highly recommend them for all of your home improvement needs!

Horizons Unlimited has done excellent work on a number of projects in our 20-year old home, including a full renovation of master bath, replacement of leaky skylights, replacement of gutters and fascia under the roofline, and installing new sliding glass doors. The crews were timely and kind and cleaned up after themselves each day. Prices were comparable to other contractors and the quality of the work completed by Horizons was higher than others who worked in our home. We would recommend them to anyone.

Horizons Unlimited saved us from our project nightmare! I received a call from Bill as soon as I sent an inquiry about my project and the horrible situation we were in with the other contractor. Bill quickly sprung into action, met with us, explained what we needed to do to get our project moving and completed in 30 days. Bill is a man of his word! He told us what Horizons could do and they did it in 30 days! Horizons has exceeded our expectations for our home addition! They were available to address any concerns day or night! All of the employees with Horizons are friendly and willing to do whatever I asked, no matter how difficult the task!I will definitely call Horizons again!!!

Bill and his crew are amazing. We asked them to come out and add a bilco door to our basement. Not only was their prices reasonable, they completed the work perfectly before the deadline. Let me clear, they did not complete BY the agreed deadline, they managed to get it done perfectly before we expected it to be done. In addition, all the crew wore their masks even though they were outside. I will definitely use Horizon again.

I needed an aluminum siding repair on my house. There were only a few pieces that needed replacement. I got many estimates for the job but none could compare to the price I got from Horizons Unlimited. I know this is a very busy time for home improvement but Bill and Mike got the job done right and in a timely manor. They went over and above the expectations I had for the repair. I just wanted to give these men a big thank you for a job well done!C.W.

Poor quality. Poor work. They take no pride in their work. It’s sloppy. Unprofessional. Bill likes to talk. Too bad all his talk doesn’t match his work. I’m still finding issues all these months later. In my opinion they should be shut down. They start work without a permit. They leave a mess and damage that wasn’t there when they started. They are so sloppy. My window trim is installed upside down! Of course I didn’t notice until months later. Who checks that’s? And that’s one of a 100 issues. They came to fix an issue and then never came back to finish. I just gave up and fixed it myself. They have the lowest quote. That should’ve been my first sigh. I’m so mad sad annoyed and frustrated by Bill and his company. They should be ashamed of themselves. Double check your contract if you use them. It will be vague on purpose. And double check what you ordered is actually in your house. They like to swap things out without asking you. I can go on and on but this man and his company upset us so much I just don’t want to expend anymore energy on this. If you are reading this. Buyer beware.Service: Window installation

Bill and his workers were excellent! I had an old deck removed and replaced with a new deck made from composite materials. The results are beautiful and we are very pleased with the results. The quality of the work is self evident. I would recommend Horizons to anyone considering a new deck or any home improvement project.

Horizons Unlimited did a fantastic job converting our out dated sun room to a beautiful open space eat in kitchen area, as part of the main house. It was very important that the construction timeline be completed before Thanksgiving, and as promised, it was done on time. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to remodel. We plan on using them as future work comes up.

I had used Horizons Unlimited Home Improvements, Inc. and they were great. My estimate was done fast and I received my contract the next day. As soon as I had the funds I sent in the contract and had the work done in a few days. 2 men finished the job in 1 day. I was very happy with the service I got and will recommend Horizons to others. I look forward in using them in the future.

I had a leak in my second bathroom. The leak was either the toilet or shower, but couldn't be identified without some demo. I remodel the bathroom to address the leak.We got 3 estimates, none of them broke down the labor and materials, but I picked Horizon. I signed the contract, and picked out materials and finishes. The day the work was scheduled to start the guys were 2 hours late with no phone call. The project was progressing until Mike reached out about picking a 42" vanity, the measurement was taken during the estimate. Mike could not find a 42" vanity, and in the color I selected at their office. He suggested I go with a 36" vanity. I did not want to downsize, so I asked him to keep looking. Mike sent some options which included the same cabinet they had just demoed, all options would add additional costs, even the one they had just torn out. I agreed to the 36" vanity to avoid additional costs and repurchasing the cabinet I already had. I asked how the smaller vanity would work with the space and plumbing, in order to keep things balanced the plumbing would have to be moved which would cost extra money. I called Bill Sr. and asked why I would pay extra to move the plumbing instead of just getting the 42" vanity. Bill agreed, Mike found 3 vanities and sent them and included the overage cost for each. I reviewed my options, and noticed they were similar in cost to the 36" vanities that would not have cost extra. I shared this, and Mike apologized and said the 36" would have cost more too, but he forgot to mention the overage. Horizon should have done some research of the cost of 42" vanities and this should have been reflective in the estimate. I wanted to move forward, so I found a vanity, and sent it to Mike. I picked out the paint color, the towel bar, the toilet paper holder, and a vanity mirror. The mirror was over budget, I had no idea what the budget was because the breakdown was never provided. The allotment was $100. I requested a mirror that was framed out, and fit the space during the estimate. I looked for something within budget, and there were NO options. I emailed Mike, and he sent me the standard medicine cabinet. I let him know it wasn't framed, and I asked for this up front. Horizon agreed to pay the $79 difference, but sent an email to demand payment for $350 in upgraded tile and approximately $400 for the vanity. I had already paid the $350, and the $400 for the vanity was never shared. I had to ask my husband to step in because I was leaving for vacation, so he asked to meet Bill Sr. to discuss. Bill stated I agreed to the $400. My husband asked Bill to show him where I agreed to the charge, and he could not find anything where the $400 was mentioned or me agreeing. The meeting ended with an agreement to finish the work as planned, and we would not pay the $400.The project is now complete, and my bathroom is beautiful. However, the water stain on my kitchen ceiling that was the entire reason for the project was given one coat of paint that did not match the rest of the ceiling. The stain has bled through, and the rest of the ceiling on my entire first floor must be painted because they did not match the paint. The guys that came to our house to do the work were outstanding, they kept my house clean, and they were extremely professional. My biggest concern with Horizon was their estimate process, Mike and Bill Sr.'s communication, and the repair to the kitchen ceiling.I would not do business with Horizon again based on my first experience.

I first encountered Horizons when I asked for an estimate to do our roof. The owner came out and was really pleasant to talk with and his estimate was very reasonable. We were in the midst of having our attic insulated and hadn't gotten around to doing the roof when the insulation project hit some snags. We needed our bathroom exhaust fans vented properly before the insulation could be completed. I called a few handymen type places and the estimates were outrageous and no one could get it done quickly. I called Horizons and Bill said he could get someone out to me that week and his price was very fair. A month or so later, a piece of fascia was torn off our house in a wind storm so I called around to get estimates for a repair. Again, most of the prices and timelines were just crazy. Bill--once again--got back to me right away with a more than fair proposal. I trust this guy. He's good and I think he's very honest. When we do our roof this year, he's the guy we're gonna call. In fact, he'll be the first estimate we get for every job we need done around the home.

Reliability, artistry, creativity, attention to detail, courtesy, cleanliness, gorgeous materials......... This was the best experience in home remodeling I have ever had. They left not one speck of dust on their daily departure, the job was completed on time with the results FAR exceeding my expectations in creating an extremely beautiful master bathroom. I can't wait for my next renovation with Horizons Unlimited !!!!

I recently had a fire in my home and contracted with Horizons Unlimited to do the renovations. The owner made sure he was there to meet with the insurance adjuster and worked on my behalf to make sure the adjuster got everything in his estimate. There was a substantial amount of smoke damage and water damage. Horizons coordinated all stages of the renovations and everything went smoothly. The end result was more than I could have imagined. Everything was beautiful and looked better than pre-fire. I would highly recommend Horizons Unlimited to anyone in need of home improvements.

I contacted HU to see about getting some siding damage repaired and get a written estimate for an insurance claim.I first called them and setup an appointment to meet with someone on a Friday. I leave work that Friday to go and meet with the person. Only to find a voicemail from Sandy saying that the person Bill had already gone by my home and looked at the damage earlier that day. Never saw anyone in person.I then have to spend the next 3 weeks calling Sandy to try and get the estimate.Only to get a voicemail now from Sandy telling me that for Bill to even provide me an estimate he wants $375.00 dollars upfront. So here I am no closer to get anything done and they wasted my time.

Wow Kendra! I don’t know you so I cannot even begin to comprehend what it is in your life that has caused you to spend so much time concocting such negativity in such an untruthful way.I’ve known the owner of this company, Bill, for 30 years and I KNOW he is definitely NOT a racist and would NEVER treat ANYone, with such disrespect. I hope and pray that whatever it is that’s causing such strife in your life, gets better soon and will return clarity and serenity and truthfulness to you and your outlook of the world around you.Having known Bill for so long made it crystal clear to me that when my Roof needed to be replaced, Bill was the ONLY person I would need to contact to get a fair price for work done correctly and completed on time and within the agreed upon budget.I made sure I was a clear as I could be with what I needed before the contract was signed, so that I would not be kicking myself later for not mentioning something that was missed due to my lack of communication. As a result, the job began and was completed exactly as planned and to my complete satisfaction. To be clear, I had a special consideration with work that needed extra thought and planning around a skylight in my porch. It had presented problems for me in the past with leaks and I wanted to be sure I communicated that to Bill as we sat together and worked up the contract. He looked at what had been done previously and knew exactly how to fix the problem when he and his crew were to tackle that particular problem area. The roofing was completed 3 weeks ago and the leaky skylight issue has finally been resolved! :). I believe that because we were communicative and thoughtful in assessing exactly what was expected and what was needed to meet those expectations, prior to any work being started, we were both satisfied with the end result. When this new roof needs replacing in 30 years, I’ll pull Bill out of the Rest Home to do it again. :)Really Kendra - Bill a Racist? The word has been thrown around so much lately, that it’s lost its ‘Shock Value’ on me - and that’s not good. Someone who is racist should be considered mean, bad, hateful, and evil.I KNOW that anyone who does business with Bill in the future, will use NONE of those adjectives to describe him - or anyone who works for him. He just wouldn’t tolerate it.I hope you will consider choosing the words you use to describe people in the future more carefully. Words matter. Bill is true to his word, and that is why my roofing job, resulted in the quality I knew I could expect from him at the fair price I paid to get the job done correctly.

I wish I could give this company less than a star. I had a horrible experience with the owner of this company. When Bill first came out to assess the damage on my roof due to weather conditions, he was very nice and pleasant. He gave me an estimate and explained that once they start working there won't be any changes in pricing. However, the very first day of work he called me and said that he would need almost the double of what we had discussed. The reason he gave me was that once they started working on the roof they realized that it required more work. Since they had already pulled off the shingles, I couldn't do anything but to say that I will pay him the rest of the amount in 2 weeks, to which he agreed. The very next day he started calling me and making racist comments. He also sent me threatening emails saying that he is copying his lawyer to sue me if I didn't pay him immediately. His workers did a poor job and left trash all over. One of his workers' even broke a light bulb but never replaced it. They did not fix the chimney which fell off the next day. When I complained to Bill about all of this, he said I was looking for a reason not to pay him and that I am one of "those customers" who needs to be taken to court. I was so upset with his harassment and condescending comments that I decided to pay him immediately and get rid of him. When I emailed him to pick his payment and issue me a receipt, he couldn't even face me and sent his brother instead. Later, he sent me an email saying that the reason for his rudeness was because of some clients who didn't pay him for months. Highly unprofessional people who would never get my or my family's business again. In response to the owner's reply:It does not matter how long you have been in the business or how long you are going to stay in it. It also does not matter if the job was done 8 years, 8 months or 8 days ago, what really matters is the lasting impression you leave on your customers/clients. If they don't remember your customer service being A+ then any grade on BBB or the number of customers you serve annually is meaningless. At the time of the issue I contacted the office directly via phone and email and nothing could be done then and I don't think anything can be done now, unless you take ownership of how poorly the situation was handled and the unnecessary comments that were made.

Our roof was just terrible. It gets the full, southern exposure to the Maryland summers, so half the roof looked 20 years old and the other half looked 120 years old. It had gotten so even in a mild wind, shingles would blow off like black potato chips and how it wasn’t leaking, must have only been a miracle.Getting quotes . . . Um! . . . is not fun. I was going to say something else but, being polite and all. #1 called so many times to make arrangements over getting an estimate that it was annoying and then, they didn’t show up.#2 was - let’s just say - a jaw dropping experience and I’ll stop there.#3 was not a charm even though, he thought he was. He let me know that not only could I not afford his roof but, I was no where near his social class either. Well you know, who cares!I’ve been a grunt my entire life- true that! Therefore, I cannot afford extra money just for snobbery sake and, at the pearly gates, God’ll still like me better.#4 Horizons Unlimited was SUCH A CHARM!!!Bill, the owner of the company, is born and bred locally so he not only knows the area and its weather but, he just starts in talking to you like you’re family. I was instantly happy with everything he said about the job, especially with not just slapping another roof on top of the mess that was there. It was getting dicey as to when the buckets would have to be pulled out so, we had a new roof before the next weekend was over and, even when there was a mix-up on my part, before the end of the week we had the most amazingly beautiful gutters at a length and pitch that, well . . . kinda defies gravity. I’m so happy with the whole Horizons experience, that I feel guilty now, and need to go pressure wash the rest of the house and work on the gardens. “House Makeover - Yay!!!”

Excellent roofers, salesman and workers, but subcontracted to subpar finisher and painter. Have been waiting almost a week to have fixed. Correcting a wrong must be a priority and communication is critical.... and theyre lacking now. Need work done for company and now will have to move furniture back in, and then out again and eventually back in.

Very unprofessional. We needed an estimate for our insurance. He walked in as if in a rush, took pictures of the damaged and when asked when we would get a quote he said either today or in two days, or whenever he got to it as he walked out and shut the door. Don’t bother reaching out. Clearly other people have experienced the rudeness and unprofessional attitude.
