At no point did the try to oversell me, but actually came back during construction to let me know if they thought something wasn’t going to work, and provide a credit. They were quick to respond to any questions or concerns, and quick to fix any issues that arose. Steven was great through the estimating and financing process, and Eric ran the project flawlessly and finished a week earlier than projected. Norm, who came in to do the finishes and trim, did a great job, and put together what my wife called “the most beautiful” hand rail she’d ever seen leading down to the basement. We've done a couple of major projects since moving to southern MD and have never had a home improvement experience this OUTSTANDING! MD Custom Construction communicated with us constantly throughout our job and delivered on every promise.Before contracting our deck job, we asked for an estimate to retile our bathroom shower because the grout had deteriorated. We didn't want to spend a lot of money and MD Custom Construction is so honest that they put us in touch with a company to try professionally cleaning it. Ultimately, we just regrouted and saved about $20k!So when our deck began to fail because we had a leaky hot tub, MD Custom Construction was our first choice. I thought I knew what the deck might look like after talking to the sales person, looking at pictures in the brochure and checking out the material samples. All I can say is WOW!!! It was way more amazing than what I pictured in my mind. If you are thinking about a composite deck, you need to give Maryland Custom Construction a call. Trust me you won't be disappointed. If you are worried about price don't be It was within $500 of what I was expecting it to cost. With the cost of lumber right now I payed less than $1000 more for the composite than what it would cost to do a wood deck with a great material and construction guarantee I would not have gotten otherwise. I will definitely be talking to them again when I get ready for my next home improvement project.

We had MD Custom Construction rebuild a boardwalk down to our house. Mike Bassford was always responsive to my questions and helped work up different itemized quotes for additional railings. In spite of building on steep slopes, the boardwalk is extremely sturdy. The crew clearly took pride in their work and the craftsmanship shows. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to them for more work in the future.

Our patio at the end is absolutely stunning. I am always nervous about home improvements and having to trust various contractors that over promise and under delivery. Most of that fear comes from hearing horror stories not any experiences of my own.I believe what sold me on going with MD Customs and Constructions was before the project even begin I had tons of questions and the project manager always answered my call and questions. Also, he would stop by our residence once or twice a week to check on the project or to provide us with next steps in the project. The workers where always on time and ready to work when they arrived on site. The Yard was always picked up clean when they left for the day, no equipment or tools laying around for the next days work.We ran into a snag during the project and my fears of the worst outcome felt to be coming true. But no that was not the case, the company made significant corrections to make things right and they followed through. It really was a smooth process and that’s because of the open communication this company overall displayed. I would say if you have any projects big or small give MD Custom & Construction a chance to answer that call.As you see from the pictures our project was a 20X24 detached screened patio.

Mike was extremely responsive and available to discuss options. Once the project started, the crew that came out was on time, quick, and efficient. My deck only took 3 days. I didn’t observe any major errors in workmanship and the construction was well done. Overall, great company. The other estimates we got for this project were similarly priced, but the responsiveness from Mike sealed it. Thanks again!

MD Custom Construction completely finished a basement bathroom for us as well as the framing and drywall installation in the rest of our basement. We were on a budget and opted out of completely finishing the basement at this time and they worked with us to provide a reasonable quote and quality product. Now that everything is complete, we are delighted to have this additional space for our family for years to come. My basement flooded and MD Custom did all the repairs. They installed vinyl plank, carpeted most of the basement including the stairs, installed new baseboard, and painted the entire area. From picking out flooring and paint to completion was 11 work days. All of the remodeling was done in 7 work days for an 1100 sqft basement and all this at a reasonable price. Even though MD Custom Construction's quote was higher than others I had received, I selected them due to their timely response, willingness to discuss options, and great reviews. Unfortunately the work they performed did not stand up to the quality they advertised.I had my open concept living area painted, hardwood floors and carpet replaced, recessed lighting installed in my kitchen, and a new ceiling fan installed in my living room. For the price I paid, I had very high expectations. They hired subcontractors to do all of the work, 1 of which they had never worked with before. That was concerning to me as I had to be out of town for work but they assured me that they are insured and bonded and everything would be perfect when I got back. When I returned home, I discovered they did not finish the job, used my equipment (ladder, LED work light, and clothes dryer!), and left my house and equipment in complete disarray.The MD Custom Construction project manager would only come to my house for ~15-20 minutes on the first day the subcontractors would arrive to tell them what to do. He never came in to check up on the work they were doing nor did he come in to inspect the work after the subcontractors said they were finished. When I would contact the project manager about the issues I had with their subcontractor’s work, he would always first respond with a reason or excuse as to why it was the way it was. After the project manager would come to the house to see the issues himself, he would finally agree with me and schedule the rework. This happened with every subcontractor except their electrician.When the original work was being performed, they discovered a leak which resulted in a new contract to repair my dormer, and replace my drywall, insulation, and front door. This time the work was performed by MD Custom construction. Again, their own workers did not perform to the quality they advertised and the project manager never inspected their work. They promised to address the leak and make it looked like nothing had ever happened.When they repaired the dormer, they installed black counter flashing which was nailed to my roof without any sealant. This 4" black piece of aluminum stood out like a sore thumb compared to the dormer next to it. They said that was the proper way to fix the issue and all of the other houses in my neighborhood probably have leaks too because it’s not installed on their dormers. When I disagreed with them and demanded it to be repaired, they told me they will not guarantee their work without the double flashing and it would cost me extra materials. Unfortunately 3 months later, I discovered the leak is still present. I paid $10K for this to be fixed and it is not.The new front door they installed cannot be opened by a child. The first issue I had with the door was when they drilled the holes for the deadbolt and door handle latch, they were misaligned. When the door was closed, it could not be deadbolted and vice versa. After they finished the door installation, the door was so tight that I could not open or close it unless I put my full body weight into it. They refused to adjust it any further because they said it would loosen up over time. They told me that I’m a petite woman so I may have more trouble opening it than others. It’s my house and I should be able to open my front door without any issue! I have had to tighten my door handle twice in 3 months as a result of the door being pushed and pulled so hard to open or close it.In the end, I was only discounted less than 2% of the contracted price for the issues I experienced during the renovations. I was also credited for the work that was not performed under our original contract (insulation in crawl space, painting of interior doors) and the cost of my missing LED work light. That still resulted in me still paying for the material and labor to do the unfinished work myself. 3 months later, I am left to hire another contractor to repair the leak that they never fixed and adjust my front door.Services: Fan installation, Paint indoors, General repairs, Drywall repair, Flooring

I want to thank Kenny and his team for building a beautiful, safe, sturdy and durable custom set of stairs to the Chesapeake Bay. Our property is almost 20 feet above the Bay and the stairs had to be built to follow the terrain through the cliff, and that’s exactly what Kenny’s team did. It wasn’t easy. Kenny met with to discuss the project, and the entire process from the initial discussions, proposal, agreement, schedule, permitting, construction, inspections and completion and final approval were totally professional. During construction, they had to carry all of the material including cement, 6 x 6 lumber, etc. from the street down a long hill to the site on the Bay. They used a portable generator for their power equipment. Kenny applied for the permit from Calvert County and he and his team successfully hosted several inspection visits during the construction. They discussed options and kept me informed on the schedule. The stairs have almost 50 steps and 5 landings, on the cliff and the beach. I’ve had many compliments on the stairs from my neighbors and even people walking the beach. Kenny and MD Custom Construction get the credit. Thank you!

Great experience working with Mike Bassford on getting a new roof, flooring, and external door. Repeated leaks led to needing a new roof and I also had a leak that caused damage around my kitchen door. Finances were a major concern but I was very happy with the quote Mike got me for everything. And because the finances worked out favorably, I ended up expediting plans to get the entire floor redone between the kitchen and living room. Everything turned out great and the LVP flooring is such a big improvement over the old carpet and linoleum! I also appreciated the communication from Mike that kept me updated on the timeline for all the work. Mike Bassford has been our point person, and he gives us a straightforward, informed advice with no up-selling and lightning fast response time. He’s direct and easy to work with. We needed our wood floors replaced and were concerned about the complications of construction time, and I’ve been completely amazed at how quickly they’ve turned this around. Once the crew was assigned, they showed up at 8:05am, worked without interruption through the day, finished at 5:05pm and left us with a pristine new wood floor.
