My family has now used Tabor Design Build for two major projects, and have been thrilled with the process and the work both times. We originally found Tabor listed as the Most Trustworthy contractor in Washingtonian Magazine, so used them for a full renovation of our unfinished basement in 2015. They turned the space into a master den, bathroom, laundry and storage area, and everything was on schedule, on budget, no surprises, and great craftsmanship.We were so happy with the basement, that we then went back to Tabor this year (2023) for a full gut and reno of our kitchen. The design team is top notch. We looked at so many creative options, including layout, materials, and amenities. Then, the construction was on-schedule, again on-budget, and once again had no major surprises. The day-to-day Project Manager was highly communicative, and really knew his trade. We are thrilled with our new kitchen.There are a few things that separate Tabor from other firms in the DC area: 1) You deal with the owner, John Tabor, himself. He is very nice and great to work with. But that also means that if there is any sort of problem, you are just one phone call away from the owner and he’ll make things happen. Thankfully, our Project Managers were great in both projects, so we didn’t have to go up the chain, but we knew that there is a level of accountability there just in case; 2) Tabor’s brand is honesty, transparency and communication. There are truly no surprises, and your work and payment schedules are all crystal clear. And when little issues come up, they are immediately responsive and communicative; and 3) the design team and the craftsmanship is all top-notch. So, you can rest assured that you’re getting as good a job as anywhere, but also the peace of mind of working with a firm (and John Tabor himself) that prides itself on honesty and transparency.We will continue to recommend friends and colleagues to Tabor and look forward to working with Tabor for any future projects.

I am a grateful repeat customer of Tabor Design Build (TDB). Approximately 10 years ago, I had an excellent remodeling experience with TDB for home improvements that added greatly to our quality of life and the value of our home. The second time was most recently when significant repairs were required due to an accident. I sought out TDB because I needed a company that I could trust to do quality work in a crisis. I was not disappointed. TDB responded immediately with a visit to my property and a plan, giving me peace of mind knowing that my needs would be cared for. TDB worked with my public adjuster and insurance company from the beginning. The TDB construction agreement was clear and straightforward, containing a breakdown of the work and no weasel wording. I had a dedicated project manager, who kept in close contact with me, keeping me abreast of the schedule and providing daily texts during construction advising me what work would be done that day. The project manager was patient and responsive to my requests. He even helped me move heavy furniture that I could not move myself, and went above and beyond, hauling away extra construction debris from the accident. The TDB tradespeople were friendly and professional and did high-quality work. For example, the painter noticed that the paint on the baseboards differed between rooms and he made a special effort to ensure that the paint used in each room was an exact match. I felt like everyone on the TDB team had my best interests at heart and now my home is in better shape than before the accident.

We used Tabor Design Build for a home addition. Working with Tabor Design Build was an incredibly smooth process and the end result is nothing short of spectacular. John spent a lot of time with us on the front end to design and order materials so that there were no delays once construction began. We heard of horror stories of construction delays with all of the supply chain issues but we didn't experience any of that because the Tabor Design team had planned ahead. Matt, our project manager, was a pleasure to work with on a daily basis. He has so much pride in his work to make it just right and found some creative solutions to unforeseen problems. Also, it was also evident that he was a great leader with all of the subcontractors that came through. Chris, our production manager, was accessible and responsive with all of our needs. We highly recommend the Tabor Design Build team. We have used them for 2 projects. In both cases, they were professional, helpful, responsive, efficient, friendly, and organized. They helped us design a plan that has transformed our home. We couldn’t be happier. John Tabor is very open and honest and has put together a great team. GM Chris held weekly and adhoc meetings to keep the projects on track and handle any issues. The PM’s were on-site every day and did a great job managing the subcontractors. Great care was taken with the jobs, as if they were working in their own home. The site was cleaned up daily. Both jobs were finished within budget and on time.The first project, in 2021, was a major kitchen renovation (moving it from the front to the back of the house) and an addition (laundry/mudroom, full bath and screened porch). Designer Jane was very helpful. PM Matt and his team were terrific.We were so happy with the first project, we had TDB back in 2023 to update our basement and renovate 2 bathrooms. Once again, the staff and work were great. Designer Erin recommended wonderful finishes and understood our needs. PM Jack and his team were great to work with.We are so pleased with the work that TDB did for us. Tabor Design Build created a screened-in porch for us, and we love it! They were very easy to work with, had a ton of knowledge and expertise since we didn't know anything about the process. The design process was thoughtful, and they were able to incorporate a tricky element (existing exterior stairs) into the design. The building phase went as planned, and all the trade workers were great and had very good attention to detail (electrician, mason, etc). Overall we really liked working with them - the reason we went with a design build firm is that we didn't want to have to be involved at every minute, and they really delivered! We love our new porch and the quality is fantastic. Thank you!

Tabor Design Build are true professionals. We contracted with TDB to design and rebuild the addition to our 1949-built colonial as well as a long list of additional improvements, e.g., replace windows, exterior doors, HVAC upgrades, and replace the roof, among other items. From the first day of demo to the final day of touch-up painting, TDB was professional, reliable, responsive, and did top notch-work. Importantly, when issues arose -- and they always do -- TDB addressed those issues to our satisfaction. Our project came in on budget and, allowing for the inevitable unavoidable delays, on time. The GM for the project, Chris M., was available and very helpful with making decisions on additional work orders and ensuring our questions were answered. The senior PM, Matthew T., approaches his craft as if he is working on his own home, and the work product shows (and bonus, he was very nice to our dog and cats). The attention to detail and craftsmanship is evident in every aspect. Tabor Design and Build oversaw and executed a major addition to our home - the addition of a new story, transformation of a carport to a living room, and internal restructuring to create new rooms for new uses. It was easy to work collaboratively with them, as we brought our ideas and vision for how we wanted the house to look, feel and function, and they brought their experience for making our vision a reality. We appreciated their frank but respectful input on a number of decisions ("really, the master bathroom should have two sinks") which have proven to be the correct choices! While a significant renovation, we were still able to live in the rest of the house as it went on. We also appreciated their input on decorating decisions (e.g., tile, paint, fixtures) that to us seemed initially overwhelming (so. many. colors.). They helped us zero in on styles we liked, and make decisions that created warm spaces that felt like "us." The fact that our family very naturally moved into the house - both its old and new spaces - is a testament to its thoughtful design and construction. And it was finished on schedule to boot! From move-in and beyond, they have been responsive to questions we've had, as well.

Every Monday morning they met with us to go over the coming week and explain what would be happening. The final result was exactly what was promised in terms of delivery date and budget. We have completed 3 projects with TDB since we selected them for our first renvovation in 2002. Over the past 10 years, TDB has helped us to:- build out an eat in kitchen and family room extension on the back of our house- remodel the kitchen and dining room- add a 2 level bedroom extension off the back of the houseIn March of 2013, we completed our third project with TBD and again, my husband and I were very pleased with the outcome and the experience. Here's why:- The design experience - very colllaborative, good use of technology to help visualize the change, knoweldgeable assistance with product selection, a well laid out process, considerate of our time/schedule- The planning - they commit to a tight schedule, because they work with partners they've come to know and trust will execute, they took care of all the permitting, all the site prep, they met with us frequently to keep us informed as plans moved forward- The project execution - they have a project lead on site every day, their leads and their subcontractors are professional, courteous, experienced and hard working, they are always available for questions and comments (on site or in the office), if big problems arise, they are handled swiftly and professionally and they work with home owners to develop creative solutions to design problems- Post Project - Punch lists are remedied quickly and TBD is always available to us months after a project is completed to come out and take a look or solve a problem that might have popped up.We have found TDB to be a great partner and would recommend them with confidence to anyone considering their next house remodeling project.
