Of the 4 or 5 companies I contacted to quote my project, Amber Valley was the only one that immediately understood the specific challenges of my situation, which was a complete tear-out of the only bathroom in the house.Their preparatory process was methodical, and every step was clearly explained.Their initial estimate was as accurate as could be expected; price changes that arose were due to my choices, and nothing they should have foreseen. The final estimate was what I paid.The design phase was thorough, and both understood and made some big improvements to my own vision for the space.The contractors were professional, friendly, and effective.The few small snags that came up were dealt with promptly and with good cheer.The result is gorgeous, and I have every expectation that it will last for decades.

We have absolutely loved working with Amber Valley and Shield Exteriors on our home projects. We have hired them twice now and have been very pleased with the results both times. First project was a new front door and shutters - when our door handle unfortunately broke (no fault to installer) a few months after the door was installed, our project manager, Adam, was so quick to get the issue resolved with a replacement lock, patched door, and repaint. Looked brand new and functioned perfectly, and was completed with urgency - so appreciated!!We recently had Amber Valley fix a water damage issue with our deck/siding/basement that required a complete rebuild of our back deck. Through snow, freezing temps, wind and rain, the crew was there whenever they could be and were able to get our project finished in the dead of winter. I was so impressed with the attention to detail on everything from the placement of the nails in the deck floorboards, to the insulation foam sprayed around our new basement window and outlets - they think of every detail and do a VERY thorough job.Adam is incredibly knowledgeable, answered any and all questions we had, and even provided additional detail/advice for when we stain our new deck next year.Andy was our sales rep who initially quoted both jobs and he was so wonderful as well. Also super knowledgeable, friendly, and is extremely transparent which is so appreciated when considering a huge expense.We will continue to use Amber Valley and Shield for our home improvement needs and have already recommended them to family and friends. Thank you for being such a great West MI company. It feels great to be able to fully trust a company with our HOME!

In just about 4-5 months, Amber Valley Construction transformed our cold, concrete box of a basement to a warm and inviting living space, including an entertainment area, bonus room (w/egress window), utility closet, storage, AND full bathroom, nearly doubling the size of our home. Adam did a rock-solid job scheduling the tradespeople, keeping us posted on the process, notifying us of any and all changes, and regularly checking in to ensure we were pleased with the process and the project at-hand. While we had to amp up our budget a notch and be flexible with some fixtures, everything felt reasonable and the final product proved worth it. Amber Valley recently completed a remodel and addition for us. We can’t thank them enough for making our little house in the woods a home. Their work and attention to detail was outstanding. Marc, Ryan, and the team answered all my many questions and calls with no hesitation, as we were working on some bathroom and kitchen updates in combination with the work Amber Valley was completing. Scheduling contractors and permits had to line up with both of us, it was critical that we kept in touch. We did and our project was finished in perfect timing, we couldn’t be happier. Amber Valley also worked with us on financing. As with any remodel there are surprises. Marc did an awesome job getting us the best quote and work for some things that were outside of our construction loan. Ryan did an amazing job on our interior and exterior work and Barb was super helpful with payments and invoicing. A great team to work with , we will definitely use them again for our next project 🤩.

Amber Valley did a great job of installing a new roof for me. They clearly communicated all the details about delivery and what to expect, and even sent me a few photos with the shingles removed and the completed roof. Materials were delivered the first day and the crew completed everything on day two. Even the neighbors were impressed!

We had our basement finished by Amber Valley, including adding an egress window and a full bath. While the design and estimate process was long and at times frustrating, once actual construction began things progressed quickly and smoothly. We worked with Amber Valley for nearly 3 years on a huge house project, so we know their business fairly well.Even with all that time, we only ended up finishing a small basement project.Some of that was due to the pandemic but some was due to what I see as three drawbacks working with Amber Valley:1. Unclear or slow communication2. Inability to retain employees and contractors3. High pricesThis will be a very balanced review, so I will share what we loved about working with Amber Valley as well.The project development system, where we pay a bit up front and make all the decisions before actually signing the final contract, seemed like a great system because then we wouldn't be constantly making decisions throughout the project.The trouble came when we just couldn't get to the end of the project development and get that final quote. We really should have been breaking ground in April 2019, but we didn't get the final quote until mid-June. Part of that was definitely our responsibility because it was difficult to go to all the vendors and make every single decision in a timely fashion. However, we also found that Amber Valley was inflexible when we requested that we at least get something down, some final number, even if it had a range of $10,000 or so so that we could move forward on schedule.When the quote came in, it was a solid $50,000 more than expected.We decided to finish two basement rooms with Amber Valley as a sort of test run.It took until January, to get that started. Part of that was because anytime Amber Valley loses a project manager or designer, you kind of have to start over explaining the whole project because although the project development structure is very firm, there aren't enough organizational systems in the company to keep track of everything that happens in meetings with clients.We were satisfied with the work Amber Valley did in the basement, and Chris is a wonderful project manager. If he's still with the company, we can't recommend his attention to detail and care about your project enough.Because of the uncertainty and price increase that the pandemic brought, we did greatly reduce the scope of our project, but we should have still been able to use many bits and pieces of the old project development plan. Instead, we started over again because of 100% staff turnover.During this process in 2021, we were repeatedly frustrated by either a lack of or incomplete responses from key players on our remodel. If Joy is still the designer, her demeanor is strangely opposite her name.By the time the final quote came in for our reduced project after months of coordination, it was disastrously too high. We were able to act as our own contractor and get the kitchen remodel done for approximately half of Amber Valley's quoted price. We were not able to get our $6,000 project development fee back, even in part, because the contract for that fee is written heavily in Amber Valley's favor. Derek fairly stated that they had put at least that much work into our project, which is true, but in large part because of the continual staff turnover and need to re-explain and restart the whole thing.We part ways with a sour taste in our mouth, but still able to say some positive things. Derek is overall good to work with and has an endearing personality, but lacks systems and organization and tends to bite off more than he can chew. I think the company grew too big too fast.Chris is a spectacular project manager, and we were satisfied with all of the contractors who worked on our basement update. However, with all the turnover, that really doesn't mean much because it's probably different people who will work on your project.I'm sure there are some great advantages to the project development strategy, paying part down and making all the decisions before signing the final contract, but just make sure you assume a price increase and realize that the business will take a cut of all materials and charge quite a bit for their office work.Services: General construction, Basement remodeling, Painting, Drywall installation, Flooring

The work that Amber Valley did adding stairs to our preexisting deck was amazing. When we bought our new house we noticed that the deck didn't have stairs leading to the back yard. This is very important to us since we have kids, and a dog. Amber Valley was very professional, and let us know what was going on throughout the whole process. They showed up, and got the work done in less a day, and were very professional. I would definitely use Amber Valley again in the future.

My husband and I worked with Derek Anderson and Jordan from Amber Valley to completely gut and redo our kitchen and build a deck on to the back of our 1924 home, they also replaced several windows. Both Derek and Jordan were a delight to work with! They were both are very professional, good communicators and extremely hard workers! Their crews did great work and we couldn’t be happier! I desperately needed my only bathroom repaired and remodeled into an accessible one. After a disastrous kitchen remodel by another company several years ago I was reluctant to get started. I had other contractors in for estimates, but it still didn't feel right.I especially wanted some one to do the whole job and not turn me into a general contractor. My friend heard Derek on the radio and urged me to give them a call. Best move I could have made! Derek had his own experience with disabilities and understood exactly what I needed. He came up with a plan that fit my needs and stayed within my budget . Every workman and woman who came into my home was conscientious, courteous and diligent in their work and answered any questions I had. It may not sound like much, but they made sure I had a working toilet every night so I did not have to leave my home. As I was in- between hip and knee surgeries this was very important to me. There were delays of course some because I made changes and some because we had to wait on inspectors. It's unrealistic to think there won't be any on any building project. I now have a beautiful walk-in shower, glass block window updated electric, plumbing and cabinetry. I can't thank Derek and Amber Valley enough and will definitely use them for any future project. PS I also now have wonderful acoustics for shower singing too!

There are not enough stars to rate what Amber Valley did for our house! If you have ever watched those fixer upper shows, our house was truely the worse house on the block. THANK YOU Derrick, Devon, Dyllon, Dan, and Jayme! Communication was an incredible (Derrick and Devon), the sub contractors were awesome and everyone had such a wonderful attitude they made the process so easy.I was acting as the "on site" person for the home owners who are out of state and the patience and assistance with our unusual situation I can not say enough. After looking for someone to do a small job at my home. Home depot suggested a contractor for me to reach out to. Upon reaching out to them. I was told that my job was too small for them, they had bigger jobs that they were waiting to do. This is the company .. Amber Valley Construction. I wasted my time waiting on them to get back to me, only to have them send me to another company. WoW!Yes, I refused, being that I had to call THEM back ...they NEVER called me back after 3 days, so why would I trust you!? UNPROFESSIONAL!..

Great service and follow up. I had my roof replaced due to it being old, but it was also leaking in some areas. After the replacement, it appeared the problem area around the chimney wasn't sealed tight and continued to leak. They worked on it until it was sealed, including a water test and climbing in the crawl space free insulation attic to locate the specific place of entry. No more leaks!

I contacted them for an estimate for a basement floor and bathroom, the representative on the phone was eager to tell me a bathroom would be about 30k without knowing what I wanted done, I asked for a person to come out to look at the project area and they told me they did not service my area, they're scared of money and blew me off.
