Kevin is a delight to work with. I have traveled most of my life for assessing and researching the architectural styles of different European countries. I was trying to design a mantel for my 1932 historical house and I never thought I could achieve that task till I met Kevin. Together we designed a mantle that came out just exquisite. We couldn't be happier with our mantel from Antique Woodworks. We came in with specs determined by leftover mounting hardware, and Kevin accommodated all our specific needs and made our custom order process easy to navigate. He was very communicative over email, ensuring that we were on the same page with follow up questions and images. He even gave us multiple options for the grain of the various boards, taking time to explain why he thought different combinations worked well visually. We appreciated his friendly updates with process photos throughout. We also loved that we could see other projects online--we like the naming convention! It seems like Kevin genuinely enjoys his work and his craft. We received our well-packaged mantel and it fit like a glove on our existing mounting hardware. What an exceptional experience purchasing a reclaimed beam from Antique Woodworks! We were able to review pictures of the raw beam and select the piece. It was then cut to our specifications and finished and final pictures were emailed. We were not obligated to purchase the mantle unless we liked the finish product. It was carefully packaged and shipped to us and was received within a week. So pleased with how it came out and the customer service was excellent. Highly recommend!

We recently had the absolute pleasure of picking out this gorgeous reclaimed red elm fireplace mantle shelf while visiting the Antique Woodworks workshop. Kevin and Mari are warm, welcoming and excellent craftspeople. They went above and beyond, both during email exchanges and in person. We learned the history of our mantle piece, how to care for it, their background in the business, and much more. They even trimmed and finished the mantle to our size requirement before we left, while recommending a great park for us to take our young daughter to as they completed our selection. We highly recommend a visit to see them if you can. It was a real adventure for our family and the memories of our visit will add to the years of enjoyment we get from viewing our beautiful mantle. If you value history, fine craftsmanship and friendship, then this mom and pop shop is absolutely the place to reward with your hard earned dollars.

I bought a mantel from Antique Woodworks about two years ago. I should have posted this sooner, but we're thrilled with the purchase we made. The owners cut it and did some fine tuning right on the spot, which saved me time for installation. Further, my wife didn't want a mantel with lacquer and poly off-gassing in our master bedroom so the piece is finished with a wax product which is marvelous. Finally, we appreciated the owners giving us the background of the wood species and where this beam was likely harvested from. While a little out of the way from the Twin Cities, it was a worthwhile experience and I would recommend these folks highly.

My husband and I recently decided to add a fireplace to our new home and we were looking for a barn wood mantel on the internet. There we found Antique Woodworks. Selection of the wood in Kevin and Mari’s shop is amazing and the design options are endless! Kevin gave us options in the style, size, price and time frame to create mantel we want. The communication between him and us was outstanding. Kevin guarded the whole process and was sending us pictures of the piece on different stages. The beam has its own name with a rich history. It was awesome! The mantel came carefully wrapped in a box, in time and undamaged. When we opened the box we just said WOW. In reality it looks even better than on the photo. We have purchased 2 mantels from Kevin in the past 2 years. They are both different and beautiful...red oak on the white brick and hickory on the shiplap. I love the history that Kevin provides about his mantels and the pictures showing their progress. Working with Kevin is a pleasure, he always quickly responds and gives updates. Antique Woodworks is THE place for barn wood mantles and I should know because I looked everywhere! Kevin is responsive, great to work with, and has the lowest prices I found. There are SO many to select from that selecting one becomes your biggest problem! The names of the mantle beams are hysterical, I still don’t know where they come from. The mantle was solid oak and probably close to 100 pounds. It was so well packaged I couldn’t believe it. Thanks Kevin, that mantle will grace our home for decades to come.

The beautiful reclaimed beam from Antique Woodworks is the icing on our new home cake!! We are so happy we discovered Kevin and Mari’s business. Not only are they talented in saving and renewing pieces of history but they are knowledgeable about the background of each piece. We decided we needed a barn board mantel for our fireplace that was being refaced THAT DAY so we contacted Kevin at Antique Woodworks and met he and his wife at their business in Gaylord, MN. It was definitely worth the trip! They have beautiful barn wood and are so kind and accommodating! They helped us choose the perfect piece of wood, cut it to length for our mantel and finished the ends while we had lunch at a delightful little diner in town. I can’t say enough about this company, to work with a person via email to custom order something so central as a mantle is a daunting task. Kevin does an excellent job of listening to your wants and matching it to the product he has in stock. Once the mantle is picked he makes very sure that you are in the know about what you’re getting and the process that the piece is going through IE finish or steel work. I would absolutely do it all over again.
