Such a great spot nestled in a quaint little town staring right at Canada.Stayed here last year early fall. After driving up from Minneapolis this was the perfect spot to relax, get fed and have some awesome drinks. After having dinner and drinks in the restaurant we changed/ showered then went up to the rooftop hot tub.. was the PERFECT was to end a long day, topped it off with a sauna session.. needless to say we slept like babies. Can’t wait to plan another trip up sooner rather than later.Walkability: This spot is in a small border town.. in comparison to the twin cities it’s a quiet little nook with beautiful sights of the border and a train line that runs through it.

I stay at the Cantilever at least twice per month for work. I don’t stay anywhere else because the service and hospitality at Cantilever is far beyond what one might expect in a rural location. The Cantilever has been expertly crafted, integrating the rich, local history with smart decor and genuinely gracious hospitality. The dining experience provides a cozy atmosphere with meals that would only be expected in a larger metropolitan area. The rooms are always clean, beautiful and well-decorated with the theme of the prohibition era perfectly woven throughout.Cantilever provides yet another reason to visit Ranier, MN and blends perfectly with the warm, friendly community while providing the highest level of hospitality. It is a perfect destination for a date, weekend get-away, work stay or family vacation. It is truly a hidden gem!

This place is an absolute gem. The coffee downstairs is great, all employees were fantastic, and the rooms are cozy and have everything you need. Absolutely loved the rooftop hot tub as well. My only complaint would be the general noise. Other reviews mention the train traffic, which didn’t bother us given the side of the hotel we were on, but poor sound insulation between rooms/floors meant that conversations happening at normal volumes next door and upstairs sounded like they were directly in our room. Luckily nobody was particularly loud, but we truly could hear everything. When everything else was just about perfect, of course we’d love to come back, but the traveling sound truly gives me pause with that.

My wife and I stayed overnight with our dog at the Cantilever. We are always grateful to find a hotel that accepts dogs, especially without a size restriction ( ours is kind of a chunk). If you are traveling with your dog, you should take note of a few things: First, the room is dog friendly, but the rest of the hotel is not, including the bar area, so you will have to go out or order food to take to your room ( we did the later). Second, we were told the only dog friendly rooms were double queen bed rooms, which wasn’t a big deal because it’s fun to do the Lucy/Ricky Ricardo thing once in a while. The room we got had nice big windows that that are basically the only barrier between you and the sidewalk and street where guests pull up to check-in, so if your dog may feel a little on guard. Lastly, you are about 25 yards from a very active railroad track, if your dog is a light sleeper, they may not get a good nights sleep.Rooms: Rooms were pleasant and the beds were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a nice size. No microwave or iron. One closet for a 2 bed room and a nice fridge .

A real gem! A wonderful spot with tons of charm. Well put together rooms and theming. Classy and polite staff from walking in the door through the entire stay. We were staying in a room that was right next door to the 3 rd floor deck and jacuzzi (cool spot). Unfortunately the door to the deck was loud whenever it would close. I asked Edison at the front desk if we could be moved to another room. He went above and beyond to accommodate us. Was friendly and made us feel special. Thank you for the switch on a busy weekend. No wonder this place ranks #1 in Minnesota. A real cool place for a romantic weekend.Food & drinks: The restaurant and distillery downstairs was a treat and exceptional food and beverages.

Stayed here while visiting Voyageurs National Park. Great location. Super easy to get to the park and to International Falls and the Canadian border! Beautiful rooms and enjoyed watching the sunset from the rooftop hot tub. Super cool vibe, good coffee at the lobby coffee shopWas nervous about the train noise from reading others reviews but couldn’t hear it at all. Would definitely stay again.

Good hotel to stay at, especially if you are visiting Voyageurs National Park. My only complaint is the slamming doors. Exterior doors should not slam shut as loud as they do. It's extremely annoying when trying to sleep or fall asleep.

Love everything about this lovely hotel. Staff is lovely and attentive. Hot tub stairs were slippery. Rooms are lovely. Food and drinks were fantastic. This hotel was the highlight of our trip.Food & drinks: Great bartender and waitresses! Drinks were spot on. My husband and friends love the old fashion.

Stayed while visiting voyageur. Pros, friendly staff, new building industrial style rooms (looks good), attached distillery has great cocktails. Cons, paper thin walls made it hard to sleep. We could clearly hear normal volume conversations in the next room as well as bathroom usage (ugh). Also the hotel is directly next to train tracks and we were woken several times. The final con is no microwave or coffee in the room. I will come back for the cocktails but stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the Cantilever for three nights and loved it! Besides clean rooms and delicious food, the staff was beyond amazing. When we left on Saturday, I inadvertently left a prescription bottle in our room. Once I discovered this, I called the hotel and they immediately shipped my prescription to me!Rooms: The room was clean and comfortable.Food & drinks: The food was delicious and the cocktails were unique.

Edit: i couldn’t sleep most of the first night because of constant train traffic, but y’all… the service here is im·pec·ca·ble. Best service I’ve ever had at a hotel, coming from a fellow service industry person. They gave us a new room for the train noise and more, all around above and beyond exceptional service here.Original review: Loud trains all night long, very little sleep. Otherwise a nice hotel, very poorly located. also wish the windows opened for fresh air

Loved this hotel so much. Staff was fantastic. Beautiful rooms. The clawfoot tub was a dreamy surprise. We had two meals in the restaurant with great food. The cocktail list was phenomenal, we had drinks three days with no repeats and still didn't get through everything we wanted to try. One day we started the morning with a hike at Voyagers and spend the afternoon reading in front of the fire. The day we came home I got to take a yoga class before the long car ride. At every turn, we were impressed with the attention to detail that went into the building and the overall experience. We will definitely be back.

Really great hotel! Super friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, felt like I was home. The room was perfect. Spacious bathroom, comfy beds, and a mini fridge. There was a microwave down the hall that was convenient. We were pretty bummed the rooftop hot tub was out of commission, one of the main draws to this hotel. But we will be back and hopefully it will be working next time. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Absolutely loved our stay at Cantilever! It was so clean, modern, and well-designed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was great and the cocktails were phenomenal. I will say that it’s near the railroad tracks, so be aware that a train might wake you up when you’re sleeping. I personally think the trains are part of the Ranier charm. We’ll definitely be back!

I stopped for an overnight during a snowmobile ride. I expected something like a Holiday Inn Express but got a 5 star hotel experience.Perfectly decorated, clean and comfortable. Excellent restaurant and bar. 1st rate service everywhere.I’ve traveled extensively for many years and this was one of my favorite hotels.I’m thinking of reasons to return.

We had 2 rooms for 2 nights, and had a GREAT stay. We ate at the restaurant both nights, and had great food. On day 2, our fishing guide picked us up less than a 1/2 block away from the front door of the hotel for an amazing day of Canadian walleye fishing, couldn't have been easier. We caught over 60 fish in under 6 hours on the Canadian side. Reservations for the restaurant are recommended, and welcomed by hotel staff. Only one bummer for our group.... the hot tub was out of commission during our stay for repair, but the kids used the sauna and had fun anyways. We stayed on the lake side and never heard the train. We will be back, no doubt!

Just came here to eat and try the drinks. First time here, so wife and I were a bit lost walking in. Instead of being greeted we were told we were "blocking" the way to the kitchen for the wait staff.Eventually we found a spot and placed our order. The drinks were ridiculously expensive.Aside from fancy glasses I couldn't see the justification for the cost.It was a unique experience to say the least, but the overall experience just didn't justify the cost. This place will be a "one and done" for me.

We stayed at the Cantilever Hotel in mid-October and it was fantastic! Check-in and making a dinner reservation was a breeze. At the restaurant, the service was quick and attentive and the food was delicious. The rooms and entire hotel are designed beautifully, no detail is overlooked. The alcohol was the cherry on top of an already lovely hotel experience! It is a must-stay.

The hotel entrance was a little confusing at first. I saw the door to the restaurant/distillery and ended up walking around the entire building before going in that door. A lady greeted me and checked me in. The hotel is very nicely decorated and the room was great, especially the big shower and all the nice accessories. Yes it is right next to the train tracks and the rail road crossing. They provide ear plugs if it gets too loud. I will say it would have been great if I could leave the fan on without running the AC. The fan blocked out all the train noise. However, the fan would turn off once the room got to temperature. Not a huge deal. I had a room that backed up to the tracks and I was still able to sleep through the night. The food was excellent and the bourbon old fashioned was perfect. Great bartenders and staff! A hidden gem for sure.

I can't comprehend why they thought the location would be good for a hotel. There is no view and the train noise is deafening ....and I was on the side away from the tracks. I thought it was a joke when I was handed ear plugs at check in. I slept 45 minutes all night. Even when the trains weren't moving though, they were parked there idling away reverberating through the entire building. I'm glad there is a now another new hotel option in I-Falls, it might not have 30 dollar soaps, or look as cool in pictures, but it's hands down a better experience.

A must stay if you are in International Falls and Voyageur's National Park. Incredible facility with a state-of-the-art distillery and a restaurant/bar with a mouth watering menu. Ed is a wonderful host and I definitely recommend a distillery tour. All the staff was really nice and the rooms were modern, fresh and clean! It’s a short 15 drive to the Rainy Lake Visitor Center giving you access to all the wildlife and nature you need. Drive up on the frozen Rainy lake to find a nice spot to view the northern lights. The lake is right across the road from the hotel.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to stay at this lovely modern little boutique hotel with a distillery and restaurant. The rooms were perfect. The beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable. The bar served the best bloody mary and a delicious ginrita. Note that they can only serve what they distill which is vodka, gin and whiskey. Very friendly service.

The room was very nice. I loved the bathroom with the claw foot tub and the retro vibe subway tile. The beds were very comfortable. We arrived late and there was no staff at the front desk and the doors were locked causing a delay in getting into the hotel and getting caught in a storm.Location is right on rainy lake we had a Lakeview from the hot tub deck

The staff here is amazing.Everyone is so cheerful and so sincere in their efforts to make your stay an enjoyable one. Our waitresses over our two night stay, Mary and Lynda were the best you could ever hope for.The food was excellent as well.If you meet Ed, I would have to believe you would also find him one of the most awesome human beings you'll ever meet on this planet 😀I highly recommend a stay or at the very least a bite to eat at the restaurant.

Server was great. She was very attentive and super nice. Food was very good; however, the whole experience was frosted over by the greeting we received on entry. The bartender (guy dressed like a goober) greeted us at the door with a very frosty greeting and continued to condescendingly explain how reservations work. We had a group of ten and were passing through on a road trip. Ratings looked good so we stopped for lunch unexpectedly. Mind you, we are the ONLY table in the restaurant at the moment. Even if we had to wait for a table it would have been fine, but he felt the need to continue explaining how reservations work. Sorry our random stop was an inconvenience. That being said, was still worth a stop. Haha

The room was very clean and stylish with a comfortable bed. The trains run at night and can be a bit loud at times. Earplugs are offered by the hotel but aren't a comfortable option. The restaurant is small so you need to make reservations. The appetizers were terrific but the entrees were a little disappointing. Drinks from the bar were expensive and not well mixed/hot the first night. The second night was better but I'm still not sure they are worth the price. The service was excellent both nights, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant or bar for more than appetizers or straight drinks.

Every detail from a guest experience was thought-out and executed perfectly. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. The staff, food and cocktails were amazing. I recommend the deviled eggs and walleye tacos. The Cucumber Cooler is a refreshing summer cocktail perfect to enjoy on the patio. I highly recommend anyone looking for a perfect spot to relax and explore what the north country has to offer stay at Cantilever Hotel.
