I read these happy reviews, my experience with Judd was just the opposite. No cost controls, poor quality tile sub, and now a major water problem 2 years later caused by his carpenters driving deck screws and 4”x1/4” lag screws through the brand new rubber membrane roof they had just installed. The damage was hidden for two years but water always wins. Judd took a look at it and walked away claiming zero responsibility. I live in Biltmore Forest, this was a major remodel done to our 1925 brick colonial.Extra, in response to Judd: let’s start with the special screws, oops they were not short enough as 520 of them penetrated through the 2x4’s. Next, the nice review in 2020 came after a similar situation where I had to express my experiences on Google. After Judd Jr’s father came over to finish up the job, out of respect to him I deleted my negative review. If things ever go bad with these guys, they will do you wrong. This gross incompetence is going to cost $30,000 to fix, sadly we are going to have to take this up a notch.

We have remodeled our home twice over the last 6 years. I know the difference between a positive experience, and one that isn’t so great. Judd did our 2nd remodel, and I can’t say enough good things about their work, their commitment to seeing things through, and most impressive of all, the accessibility that has been granted even post remodel. They still make themselves available if there’s ever an issue. John and his team are our go-to folks for just about everything! The Judd Builders have been exceptional in all four of our projects. They built our dream home, leaving out no detail. As the home evolved, they were patient and accommodating to every request. A few months after we moved in, they completed our wine room. We are still in awe. They remodeled a suite at Biltmore Park to create my yoga studio, Inspired Change Yoga, and came back to open a wall for us. We contacted Judd Builders during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic to help lead us through the purchase of our land lot through the complete budgeting phase of our build. 2020-2021 has been an unprecedented year due to the pandemic causing closures of lumber mills leading to an enormous supply and demand issue and record breaking lumber costs which snowballed into higher costs and shortages on most materials. Judd Builders were thorough and meticulous in the budgeting phase for our build. Although it is more timely up front, the level of detail that they provided in scrutinizing the cost of every piece of material required for the build provided us with a completely accurate budget of what it would cost to build a home in June of 2021. Before we signed any contract to build, they provided a meticulous spreadsheet of the actual cost to build for our plans on our lot. The information gleaned from the Budgeting Phase has allowed us to make very informed decisions regarding our build, without first binding us to a contract. We highly appreciated their transparency, thorough accuracy in detailed costs, and their hands on approach with us. We have had multiple meetings with the entire team.From our first phone call with John Judd, Sr. to our further connections with his team to include John Judd, Jr., Lauren McKinney, and Joseph Mojica, down through the vendors that they connected us with, we have been thoroughly respected by them and felt honored to work with their family and associates. The 2 chimneys in our 10 year old home were leaking and the original estimate to repair was more than our first home cost. We were referred to Judd, who gave us an estimate 50% of the original.Judd added that once into the project, if they felt only replacing the rain pans would resolve the issue, our cost would be significantly less, which is exactly what happened, resulting in our final cost to be 25% of Judd's original estimate.Bottom line is Judd Builders is a contractor that can be trusted to do quality work at the best possible cost to the customer. They are reliable, show up on time or early and their communication skills are such that we understood every step of the process.

We have done many home remodels over forty years that ranged from minor tweaks to six figure epics. We've worked with a number of quality builders in four different states. I would put Judd Builders at the top of our list of contractors based on our experience with them in Asheville.In this case we needed to upgrade our twelve-year-old home and make it a true "mountain" home with more natural stone and access to a more open environment. They were asked to build a huge rock fireplace in the living room and a high end covered screen porch with wood burning fireplace off the family room. This warm open space could later be enclosed to become a Florida Room if a new owner desired.The Judd's listened thoughtfully to what we wanted to do and then provided straight forward information that helped us improve our plans even more.John Judd, Sr. and John Judd, Jr. guided us through the numerous issues in the planning and architectural stages, always ready to explore and support any changes we wanted to make. They assisted us in our material and design changes with good humor, but also offered hard nosed information about cost and time over runs that would be caused by those changes.The inevitable hiccups that always show up in any remodeling process were handled quickly and with total transparency. This is a key issue in working with any builder. How straightforward are they when the going gets more difficult? Can you trust them to tell you the unvarnished truth? Are they prepared to put more time and effort into solving the problems so you remain happy with the ultimate result?If the answer is "Yes" to these questions, you have a quality contractor working in your best interests. That pretty much describes the Judd's.The end product of their work surpassed our expectations. We have recommended them again and again over the past seven years to new and old friends who wanted to build from scratch or do extensive remodels. That's the highest praise we can offer.
