We cannot say enough about Schumacher homes. We had our new home built from 700 miles away. The communication was excellent. The builder Matt Harper was in constant contact with us. Giving us weekly updates and his professional recommendations as the project progressed. Matt did a fantastic job. He left no stone unturned. His recommendations were spot on. The house wasn't move-in ready when we did the final walk through. Then again, we didn't expect that our house would be built in such a timely fashion. The building started in mid December and was completed by the end of March. We had assumed it would be completed sometime in July, so there was no panic with a few unfinished bits and pieces, that we have total faith will be finished on the punch list. What a wonderful surprise. When we entered the house for the first time yesterday, we were blown away, not only by the curb appeal, but the construction of the house left nothing to be desired. I could go on but I figure, you get the gist. Thank you to Matt Harper, the work crew and everyone at the office of Schumacher homes, for a stellar job. Denis and Bob

The Schumacher team offered a terrific home buyer experience. Their professional guidance delivered an unexpectedly rewarding building experience. Having purchased several older homes over the years, we've sought homes with "good bones", which are those with a high level of quality and craftsmanship under the surface. It's a sense and feel of a house upon foundation inspection. We are confident our new house will join that illustrious designation of houses with strong foundations, frames/walls and roofing materials. Great work Schumacher team! Thank you, Denis and Bob.

Schumacher homes has been great to work with! From start to finish we’ve had minimal bumps in the road as they’re very thorough throughout the whole process. Our contractor, Chris Brown, has done a wonderful job making sure our home is exactly the way we want. 10/10 would recommend them for anyone looking to build!

Chris Brown was our builder. He did a wonderful job on our home! So many at Schumacher Asheville truly made our experience very positive despite issues that arose about the need for engineered footers and sewer access. Thank you!

The past year or so I have been working directly with Stephanie Bradley at Schumacher Homes. It has been such a pleasure working with her and everyone else that I have communicated with on any given business day. They are organized, communicative and willing to do whatever it takes to make each housing project run smooth and efficient for us and the owners. They are a true blessing!!!

So my wife and I did our preconstruction meeting yesterday and took 7 hours for our house, which is quite large. The GM Greg, Keasler and our builder Matt were all super helpful and patient with us, as we had so many options and things to consider. The 7 hours were definitely on us as the buyer, but we truly believe we are in the correct hands for our future forever home. By the way we are going with the Kingsbridge. I would recommend this team to anyone considering buying a new home in the Asheville Area. Deal with confidence.Services: Project management, Predesigned floor plans for homes, Custom home design, Interior finishing, Foundation pouring

We filled out the Contact Us form, explained we do NOT need financing for our new build and just wanted a firm price on the Cottagewood model to build. Instead, we were hounded with Schumacher Mortgage Lenders, Doug and Matthew, who signed us up for Lenders emails and spam.Matthew got on the phone with my fiancé, continued to try and sway her with his sales tactics, when all we needed was a simple price. Again, we explained we DO NOT NEED FINANCING and it was a waste of our time to be hearing this sales pitch. He wouldn’t give in, kept trying to explain the “incentives”of using Schumacher Mortgage. Again, wasting our time and NOT WHAT WE ASKED FOR.After the 3rd person, we finally talked to a sales lady who was nice, but the damage had been done. We were so turned off from Schumacher. But now, even after explaining we are NOT moving forward with their company, they have signed my fiancé up for daily Consent Form emails, as if we wanted to pre-approve through them. What is so hard to understand? We are NOT interested. It’s as if they are forcing us to work with them. We have emailed our 3 contacts, asked them to STOP these emails and unsubscribe her. As a whole, I’m so turned off and will never recommend Schumacher. It’s more of a sales tactic than anything.Service: Custom home design

Schumacher holmes of Asheville North Carolina is currently building a home for us. It has been since December 15, 2020 since we signed the final contract Or 589 days.. The foundation has been completed and lumber dropped on site for 360 days. I just heard last Friday from the general manager that our site manager has been fired. He was the 7th one since we started building. It has been 2 months since anything has been done on our job site. We have 20 things that have been outstanding for almost a year to be corrected that were done wrong. The subcontractors that haven't been fired seen to do half of their job and leave things uncompleted. It is unbelievable that a business can treat someone who's spending almost $500,000 to build a home can be treated this way. They just don't seem to care that with all of these delays which have nothing to do with covid or lack of materials are costing us thousands of dollars in storage, rents, mortgage and insurance costs. Would someone please from the corporate office in Ohio please call us to find out what can be done about all these issues and find a solution. There has to be a better way. No way that I would ever recommend Schumacher homes to be your builder. Buyer beware.James KeiperService: Home building

We are loving our Schumacher home! The quality is outstanding and we love the design. The planning process was great, and any issues that have come up have been addressed quickly. The communication throughout the process has been wonderful. We have appreciated the professionalism of the staff and have enjoyed working with all involved. Tom Spayde helped us design and plan our home, Dustin Price was our builder and Elaine Wilhelm has kept everything on track and organized for us. We haven’t started the warranty process yet, but are certain that everything will be handled well.

New construction build. Just finished pre-construction meeting with Keasler and General manger Greg. They are both on point. We so appreciated the detailed yet easy flow of the pre-construction process. They walked us through every building point in the house construction. We felt secure and confident that we made the right decision choosing Schumacher homes.

With Schumacher Homes we have accomplished in 3 weeks what we spent nearly 12 months with another custom builder trying to accomplish. I highly recommend Schumacher Homes to anyone that wants professionalism, service, quality, selection and personal attention along with the ability to customize. The customer experience has far exceeded our expectations. We have built a semi custom home before and were trying to do it again with a small custom builder that had a lot of claims with little proof. After nearly a year of going back and forth we decided to halt the process with that builder. All we can say is it brought us weekly frustration. From the large selection of home styles, sizes and features found on the Schumacher Homes website to the detailed quotation, we have been nothing short of pleased and excited with the process!

Schumacher homes built us a beautiful new house in the north Asheville area. The contractors were very knowledgeable and available for questions anytime. They worked with us to layout the perfect design inside and out to fit on the land we had purchased. I recommend them to anyone I meet moving to the area that’s looking to build. I would use them again!Services: Install flooring, Garage design & building, Design, Fan installation, Paint indoors, Project management, Exterior painting, Drywall installation, Plumbing fixture installation, Consultation, Flooring

My husband and I are celebrating our first year in our new Schumacher home and we couldn't be happier with the quality and craftsmanship we're experiencing. After looking for months and months for a home here in Asheville, without any success, we decided to stop at Schumacher and just check things out. Friends of ours on Reynolds Mountain have a gorgeous home built by Schumacher, and they recommended them. We were met with warmth and professionalism and were really impressed with how we were treated. There was no pressure whatsoever. Consuelo, one of the designers, sat down with us and took time to find out our wants and needs in a home. We hadn't found our property yet, but loved what she came up with based on our family size and lifestyle. After finding a beautiful plot, though difficult to build on because of the slope of the land (without having to spend a fortune by bringing in an engineer, etc), Consuelo was able to configure the home footprint so that we were able to get the home that we wanted on the wooded lot we had dreamed of having. We lovingly refer to our home as "The Consuelo", and indeed consider her a dear friend. Stephanie was fantastic in helping us pick out colors, fixtures, cabinets, and bringing about a warm, beautiful decor that would have been so difficult without her, seeing as I have a type of color-blindedness and would have really done some damage. Closing with Ashley really finished the process nicely. She did everything to make sure we were happy, and well informed of our warranties, and who to contact regarding different appliances, HVAC, etc. Being a first time builder, this was really huge and she really took her time. She made herself available to contact at any time with any questions and again, made us feel like we were her most important clients. I have two co-workers here in Asheville who are building with Schumacher and they both seem to love what they're experiencing as well. Life here at "The Consuelo" is wonderful. Huge thank you to Schumacher!!!

So far, so good...It's a little early for reviews but I believe we will enjoy working with our builder Chuck. He seems to be listening to us and that's a good thing! Haven't broken ground yet so I will be even happier when I see something physical start happening.Update: my 5 stars is quickly dwindling...the sales experience was awesome but it's been almost 2 months and there hasn't been a stick moved at our lot. Everything apparently is waiting on the excavator. We moved here from NJ to retire and were told this builder was excellent and great quality. We are paying a ton of money to store our furniture and rent a small apartment while they are building...wait, did I say building? Not so much. So, here we are 1 year in our home. Now we're waiting on Warranty work to be done...can't seem to get anybody to show up or even schedule work. The turnover in this office is incredible! I don't think anybody we started working with is still there. I know our builder is no longer there. So I guess I'm going to have to try and get through to the Corporate office because this is ridiculous! I would stay clear of this Builder! So they send me a Contact Us link but guess what??? Like everything else on Schumacher web sites, they don't work or error out. Hmmmmm.

The long and short of it is, there is no way we could have been afforded to build a house in our area had it not been for Schumacher. Stacey, the design manager, is energetic, skilled, and creative, working hard to design a place we liked and was within our budget (making suggestions without ever being pushy). Champ, our project manager, was knowledgeable, available, and eager to get things right for us. Building any house is complicated and so to say there were no hiccups along the way is unrealistic given the task. And they have so many projects going you have to stay on-top of the details to ensure all the little things get done. But Schumacher remains committed to the follow-up process (kudos to Jason) and the overall product was a solid home in a place we didn't expect to get to live.

Very deceptive business practices. We had been working with Schumacher for over a year. We looked at all the model houses, drove to several different states to see the model homes picked one that we really liked. we looked at several different plots of land to build our new home. Before we purchased the land we sat down with the new home specialist showed her the location of the land to include the subdivision In Astor it the house would fit on the land she assured us that everything was good and that we would be able to build our new home on that land. So, we purchased the land. We reached out when we were ready to start the process to the same new home specialist and requested the survey be done of the property and to get it approved through the HOA. It was clear that we were not ready to build just wanted to get the process of the approval done we paid the requested amount of money upfront to get the survey done. The next day we had a full contract in my inbox. When I question the new home specialist why we need to do a full build contract with commitment to do the survey I really did not get a clear answer. So, the director calls me, and I got another song and dance of why we needed to sign a contract with them to build when we are only asking for the survey. I felt uncomfortable with the answers, so I called my homeowners Association. who very quickly told us that Schumacher homes had been rejected in that subdivision Several times and that Schumacher that office had to be aware of the fact that they were not allowed to build in that particular subdivision. So let's recap they knew what land I was buying before I purchased it they knew the subdivision had rejected them and they wanted me to sign a contract with them knowing that I could not build on the land that I purchased. after a long discussion with the manager I requested a refund on the money I paid up front for the survey. Still waiting on the money, I called corporate headquarters did you know that us peons IE customers are not allowed to talk to anyone at corporate headquarters. Like I said very deceptive business practices.

We had an empty lot that was on a slope with an HOA that had strict guidelines for a new build. Both Consuelo and Sarah were so kind and easy to work with, and work through the process with the HOA. Circumstances kept us from being able to build once we finally got HOA approval (no fault of Schumacher), but I was very pleased with the service we got throughout the process.Services: Predesigned floor plans for homes, Consultation

Excellent customer service. Our builder, Chuck Cole was a friendly, trustworthy and prompt builder who made a personal connection with us. We loved the ability to customize our home and request specific items and changes to be done. The selection process allows for peace of mind and overall satisfaction of completing the entire home and all of the details involved with constructing/designing your dream home. Overall, the building process was timely and organized and we would recommend Schumacher Homes to others.

It is painfully obvious when someone does not take you seriously due to your age, which is unfortunate. We had the land, income, and intention of starting a build soon but when we met with someone at the Asheville location it was obviously rushed and she had a judge mental tone through the whole meeting. My husband and I left defeated and stressed. We researched home builders near us in the parking lot and stopped by a new company who was friendly, helpful, and willing to give us direction on how to get started and 4 months later our foundation is being started for our build through them. They have beautiful homes but it’s not worth the headache.

I have really mixed feelings regarding my experience with Schumacher Homes. My experience started off excellent and I couldn’t have been more excited to get started and then the experience continued to go down hill until I could no longer tolerate what I perceived as a very demeaning attitude. I had to take a break. So the review is about how a young man at Schumacher Homes whose name is Jason Surrett. Jason was assigned the task of working with me to complete some unresolved issues. Jason from the very beginning was pleasant and very easy to work with. He told me not to worry that he would make sure everything was completed to my satisfaction. Jason worked around my schedule and would personally come to make sure all was going as planned. He was never rushed but very patient with me. He alone deserves the 5 stars. If only he were there during the building process. Thank you Jason. You saved Schumacher Homes.

The stars on our review cannot even begin to explain the how negative our home building experience has been. Our experience began well as we designed and secured funding to build. Our final pre-construction meeting was in August of 2018. We thought everything was on track. After a couple of months of radio silence we reached out only to find that we had a new project manager and nothing had been started. We were assured that things would begin to happen. They did not. The actual build process began in January of 2019. We were relieved to finally see something happen. The foundation was not poured in the location we had discussed and thus we will now have to put in a retaining wall for erosion control. The foundation finally passed inspection in March of 2019 after many issues that we were not informed about. During framing we discovered that one of the steel beam pockets was poured in the wrong location and now it will have to be moved to support the floor trusses. The concrete pillars for the covered porch were poured in the wrong locations and now the support columns for the roof and joists for the porch cannot be installed correctly. We began to see a trend of poor quality and quick fixes that have plagued our construction throughout framing. We have called issues to the attention of Schumacher Homes and they say they will work on the problems but then little or nothing happens. We are now on our third project manager and our third production manager. There have been so many personnel changes that there have been many times where we have no idea who to talk to. Our home has never truly been a priority of any sort. It is now August of 2019 and our house cannot pass the framing inspection. The issues that were covered up or fixed with poor quality now have Schumacher Homes at a loss for what to do. The general manager of the Asheville branch refuses to speak with us about any of the problems. We know that many people have had a good home building experience but what we have discovered is if there are issues with a build created by them, Schumacher Homes of Asheville pays little effort to correcting them in a timely or quality manner. We are now being forced to peruse legal action instead of having a productive conversation with Schumacher Homes.

We visited Asheville Schumacher to look at the model home and get a better idea of what we want in our house. The woman at the front desk was VERY nice and told us that one of the consultants had a no show appointment and if we wanted we could go ahead and meet with her. We jumped at the opportunity and we were introduced to Consuela.Consuela was horribly rude, especially to my husband. She was incredibly condescending and acted as if we were being an inconvenience to her by being there. I guess she didn't want our money.

This will be an "on-going" review. We moved into our house on November 27th, 2018. We are at about the 7 month mark of the 1 year "bumper to bumper" warranty. This is the time and situation of which I was wary. If things were not done correctly or things did not work properly....where would Schumacher Homes be? Would they "really" be there for us? In this building process, there was some "All-Stars" along the way (Stacey and Eric and Elaine, for example...FIVE STAR PEOPLE!) and there were some very unpleasant experiences as well. But the proof of the pudding would be in the warranty eating and the question as to whether or not Schumacher would actually do what they said they would do AFTER they were paid? Jason is "The Warranty Guy" and he has stood on his head to try to make things right when they were not right. We are not the only people clamoring for his attention (which is challenging both for Jason and for us)...but I do feel that Jason is a man of his word and will most certainly try to fix whatever needs to be fixed. He has seen every issue we have had all the way through so far! We are still in the process of "finding stuff" and telling Jason about what we are finding. While he is virtually a one-man-show in regards to addressing all that needs to be addressed....Jason has continued to come through for us. Stacey was our top of the line entry way into Schumacher....no Stacey, no sale! Jason will be the end of the line for us with Schumacher. Our ultimate recommendation of Schumacher is now in Jason's hands. If Jason can close us out as Stacey brought us in, then we will be quite satisfied. Eric the General Manager has been very fair with us....and he has "done the right thing" when any issue came up (and issues do come up). So this will be an on-going review....5 months to go with our 1 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. At this point in time, it is only right to give Jason a double-thumps UP! Stay with us, Jason....so far you are doing great!!!!!! Finish well and.... Let's turn this into a 5 STAR EXPERIENCE!!!!

We walked into Schumacher in January 2018 to discuss building options and moved in to our finished Cross Creek home in February 2019. We had a generally positive experience though everything seemed to take longer than expected. One thing to keep in mind when building with Schumacher is that the base price includes all Level 1 materials (roll-out vinyl, the worst carpet I've ever seen, vinyl counters, etc.) and just a few colors to choose from, which means that you will probably want to upgrade to at least Level 2 just to get more color options - unless you want everything to be tan, then you're set. Also, know that the base price doesn't include any of the site prep, so our house cost about $75,000 more than the base price with site prep (which we were actually on the low side of) and upgrades. Schumacher originally told us we'd be in our house by Thanksgiving 2018, but there were lots of delays, some unavoidable, some because they had some high turnover in the office the ball got dropped on ordering things for the house, which meant that they couldn't move on, so the house would just sit for weeks with no work being done. We kept getting new dates for move in. We've now been in the house about 6 months. So far we haven't had any major problems. A few minor issues that we'll work with Schumacher to get fixed closer to the one year warranty date - and they charged us $1000 at the end to seed the grass and then covered it up with hay instead of straw, which has been problematic for our landscaping - but otherwise we are pretty happy with our house.

November 2014I have decided to build a home with the Asheville Schumacher office. My 4 star review is because Shumacher is slightly exceeding my expectations in the sales & design process. I gave my deposit and will keep this post updated to reflect the entire building process. I have read many negative reviews of this company so I hope this review will be helpful. Why did I decided to build if I have heard so much negative feedback about Schumacher?1. I have worked with 2 other local builders since August quoting out my project. The price per square foot was $150 to $175 per square foot. Schumacher is $115 (for the upgrades and model I chose). The two other local builders really struggled with trying to get the project priced out. In fact, both took over 30 days to get a price. When I received their quotes neither of them were complete or accurate.2. Schumacher was the first builder who listened and effectively priced out the project (in less than 4 days) They also showed examples of measurable quality in their homes, whereas the other two local builders could simply talk about the higher quality they deliver. (For much more money)3. Schumacher is unintimidated by the timeline that I have to meet and worked with me to be part of the solution rather than the problem.4. The final reason I have decided to build the Schumacher is that I need the house to be able to appraise to obtain financing. The other prices from the local builders were ridiculous and my lender told me would never appraise. What are the biggest drawbacks I saw in the design and pricing process with Schumacher?1. Do your research on the cost of upgrades. If you are interested in upgrading with Schumacher, Google the product that you want to see the actual price. They are a business and there is a large markup. Best option, upgrade structure now, but consider doing your aesthetic upgrades in the house after you move in to save.2. Schumacher has limited options for design options. They say you can special order anything you want but the up charge is extraordinary.3. Perceived quality. I have been in many homes and I understand there is a very large range of quality in construction. Schumacher is not the absolute best in the market; however they are not the worst either.Define what quality is for you and pick your builder from there.
