If you are looking for quality work done in a timely manner definitely choose someone other than Appalachian Construction and Handyman, LLC.We hired them to do new deck railings with cable wire and to build a small wall and hang a barn door at our house. The hope was that these projects would be done well and in a timely manner and they would continue on to remodel our kitchen and bathroom.I’m honestly not even sure where to start with the complaints because there are so many. Our house has two levels of decks and they are almost identical on each floor. The project was for them to lower the deck railing to code level and run wire cabling. They messed up when cutting our deck posts and made the upstairs deck 36” and the downstairs 38”. Because of their mistake they ran different numbers of horizontal cable (7 runs upstairs, 8 downstairs) because they ran out of room. The quality of work was terrible as well. See attached photos of terrible cuts and joints in the deck railing that don’t line up.The interior barn door was not framed properly and was hung shoddily with just 2x4s. Door comes off the tracks because it was hung too low and gets stuck on the floor.Twice we were invoiced for incorrect amounts. The first time they caught it and the 2nd time I had to let them know we were being invoiced for work that wasn’t done. Just not professional at all. They bought tons of extra fittings for the cable railing totaling hundreds of dollars and we were stuck with the parts and the bill because the construction supplier they use wouldn’t take it back.We were invoiced for 100% completion of the job and when I went to check none of the construction trash was removed from the site and the job wasn’t completed as per our contract. They went to “finish” the job and remove the trash. Was lied to via text by owner, Michael, that job was finished and trash removed. To end the misery we made final payment sight unseen. Went back to check and construction debris was thrown down the hill of our property and work that Mike said was done wasn’t.All in all a terrible experience that lasted from March to September to get new deck railings and a door hung. Just crazy.

I can't say anything about the quality of the work from this company, but I did schedule a consultation which ended up being a no show on their part with no call back for rescheduling. First impressions are important and ironically they send out an email that states how reliable, will always answer or call back, and accountable the company is without understanding that not holding yourself to that emails stated standards can hurt as much as it helps. I may give ACH another chance in the future, but I called F. Martinez construction and had my deck built the next day for a fair price and no complaints. Take care

Hired this company to do some work for us.Pros:- Great at communication and responding on time- When delays or issues came up the owner of the company reached out to me directly to help resolve the issues- The worker assigned to help us did great at being open, transparent, and keeping me updated on what he was doing and why.- Company was great at providing quotes and invoices for paper trails and documentation. As a homeowner I like to keep track of work done on my house.Cons:- the only big con I have is that they don't have an online payment option set up. so you have to pay via wires, checks, etc. This honestly isn't the biggest issue compared to all the positivies, but did just add one extra task to have to go into town to handle things.Overall I did enjoy my experience with the company. It's hard to find good workers in this construction field. I will probably use this company again for any future needs we have.

Hired to build steps, first crew ended up in jail for something. Second crew did substandard work. 2 and half months later and job want pass inspection. Crews are not supervised.Use at you own risk.I told him multiple times can not in case post in cement, he did it anyway. Now I wait for him to dig up cement.,stated he has been doing it this way for years and years. So, for years and, years he has been doing sub par work.,I agree that subs that follow code should not have to be supervised, yet , that's not you.Why do we try and have sub par work inspected. To see what can get away with? To waste inspectors time?Heck , did not even follow contract that you wrote. Then claim will fix if fails.New idea, build right the first timeNow, he send receipts,After quick review, I see charges for item not used on my job.DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY. They do sub par work, charge 3 times material estimate, then charge you for material not used on job.You said don't need to supervise, yet build and had to tare down due to code violation.Complaint filed, with NC DOJ and with BBB.I even offered for Mike and I together to,measure for, material list. Nothing on steps, are enclosed, so should be easy.He declined,

Had great service from these guys recently. They swapped out a dining room fixture from a light weight fixture to something much more substantial. Michael Benson does a great job between balancing reality and estimates. What I mean is he gave me a good window of pricing, made it very realistic to understand the low side and the high side of what I should expect based on what they might uncover during the process, and when the job was done they actually came in on the low side of the estimates. They did the job they were asked to do within the price range they were asked to do it, in the time frame they said they could get it done and were professional throughout the whole process. I will definitely use them again in the future.

When we moved to an older condo unit in the area a few years ago that needed some TLC, we were faced with the challenge of figuring out who to work with for both a major renovation and other repair projects. I'm happy that we found everything we needed with Appalachian Construction. We are very pleased with the qualify of the contractors they employ and they charge a fair price for the work done. The office staff are always professional and courteous in keeping us informed on the status of work, and they went way above and beyond the call of duty to help us out by working a weekend to finish repairs so that our home sale closing could proceed. We can wholeheartedly recommend App Construction!

We hired Appalachian Construction to finish work that another "handyman" failed to complete. They replaced an exterior wall and flooring that had water damage. Their work was great! We had some minor communication issues at one point. The owner made sure everything was resolved in a satisfactory manner. The crew showed up when they said they would and cleaned up as well. We look forward to working with them again. If not for the communication issues, I'd give 5 stars. I would give 4.5 if I could!

I was so happy to have found Appalachian Construction! It has been difficult to find a company to fix a variety of problems in my home. They were timely, professional, and extremely responsive. I am starting my spring list already! I highly reccommend them.

We hired Appalachian Construction & Handyman to replace a few rotten boards and footers on our aging deck. Their team had absolutely amazing communication from the introductory phone call all the way through the completion of the project. Jody took notes and photos and got back to us with a detailed estimate within a day of coming out to see the property. Angela and Danielle were prompt and professional handling the scheduling and billing, even notifying us in real time of adjustments to the quote when the crew uncovered unexpected problems with the deck support. The work was exactly as discussed and I would highly recommend Appalachian Construction & Handyman.

Quick turnaround on our soffit replacement at our business in Blowing Rock. The gentleman that came out to do the work was quick and respectful of our customers in the shop and made sure that he was not parked where he would be in the way. Good company and will defiantly use them in the future.

Communication was excellent, given my past experiences, and Boone from the construction industry I expected to have to chase them down to complete. They called, planned, the work out, showed up when supposed to and finished on time. I would use them again for sure.

Mike was fantastic to work with and the guys he sent to do the job were professional and knew what they were doing. Mike stayed in constant contact with me throughout the process and was able to get the project done on short notice. I would highly recommend Appalachian Construction & Handyman!

I hired App Construction to cover textured ceilings in my home. After a rocky start to the job, with the original team that started the work quitting, App Construction quickly brought in a new team that got the job done. The work was time consuming and messy. While I wouldn't say the ceilings are perfect, they are close enough and the pricing was great for the amount of work. The crew did a great job of cleaning up.

Mike was referred to me by a real estate professional I work with, and we had him come and build out our back deck in our home in Banner Elk. Mike is very accessible for any communication that we required, he was willing to work with us on price, his team was prompt to respond for a request for estimate, and they banged out the job in no time with great results. We will definitely recommend them moving forward.

Great company to work with. Being a local, I was shocked when I called and they actually answered the phone on my first attempt. Not only that, but they showed up when they said they were going to and completed the work to our satisfaction.During our project we had an issue come up regarding a miscommunication and Mike and Levi immediately resolved the issue and made sure it was handled promptly.I would recommend this company to anyone who likes being treated like a customer instead of an annoyance.Hope you all are here to stay.

They provided excellent service! Phil and Daniel, that came to my house to do a handyman list were very polite and considerate. They were neat about their work and careful to clean up. They also finished all the work in the time they said it would be done. I would highly recommend this company to my family and friends with confidence. Phil and Daniel are an asset to the company!

Great experience. Fast arrival time. Was able to book the service same day at a reasonable price.I found the office staff friendly and easy to work with, which directly contradicts the experience of another user above. The two guys who came out to help me mount a TV and stack a washer dryer were awesome and polite. Whole thing took about 5 minutes to arrange, the guys arrived about 45 minutes later, and we were done in about a half hour.

We needed a gate put in our fence and we were having difficulty finding someone who would return our calls. Appalachian Construction answered my call, had someone come out immediately, and worked with me on when to install the gate. They were also great about following up 2 months later to stain the gate! I would Highly Recommend this company!

Needed a patio and gravel parking area and the jobs were very time sensitive. The owner worked with me to get the job to fit within my budget AND my timeline. Unlike so many other local companies and freelancers it feels like they actually want my business. Will definitely hire again.

I hardly know where to begin. What should have been an incredibly simple job taking no more than 2-3 days ended up being a nightmare spanning 2 months. I wanted 2 paneled walls to be covered with sheetrock in the front of my business as well as a couple of outlets added and 2 frames for posters. Seems simple enough but not for this crew! The first crew to show up knew nothing about hanging sheetrock. Screws were not seated far enough to be covered, seams were cut horribly, measurements were way off meaning they had to cut and install small strips at the top and they used more sheets of sheetrock than needed, seams were not properly taped and mudded, they cut random holes in the sheetrock that I later found out were supposed to be handholds, they removed multiple switches without labeling wires, didn't cover my hardwood floors and allowed plaster to be dropped in the grooves. Quite literally the list go's on and on.The contractor came in the next day and I had the pleasure of hearing him cursing about the job the crew did. They spent half of the next day attempting to fix what the other crew had messed up. I thought the problem was solved; not even close! They patched the holes, covered the cracked seams, seated the screws further in, and mudded everything once again. The next day I arrived to find once again cracked seams, screws showing, lumpy seams and patches, just an absolute mess. The contractor assured me they would fix it once again. So I had to come back in the following week and open up for them since the work could only be done on the days I am closed. It's a 45 minute drive for me btw. The new guy that came by this time was supposed to be their mudding expert. He worked for hours patching and mudding, he covered everything and I was sure he knew what he was doing. The next day I found that he had thickly covered a huge portion of the top of the sheetrock with mud which cracked and looked like mud dried in the sun. The seams cracked once again. The corner was still lumpy and had a section that looked like it had been pushed in, had a huge gap.Another guy proceeded to come in and sand and sand and patch more. He said the walls were done and all I needed to do was paint. So I stayed late painting as I needed to open the following day and the paint only revealed the horrific patching, cracks, lumpy seams, and overall terrible work. I finished painting and adding the trim boards, I wanted to do this myself to save money. The sheetrock looks as though it's 40 years old and has been patched and covered multiple times. I've just been in absolute shock of how bad the work is. And I payed a lot of extra money to have soundproof sheetrock installed. The outlets are no better. They aren't aligned properly, one sticks out too far from the wall even with the wall plate over top. The switch plate is not the correct one for the switches; he said he had more switches on order but didn't ever change them. And the poster boxes are not at all what we agreed upon. The contractor tried to attach a board to the wall over top of an outlet plate. It was completely uneven with one side sticking out 1/4" from the wall. I had to tell him to route a space in the board so it would fit flat on the wall. The guy who attached it used regular construction screws in the sheetrock with no stud behind it. The screws stripped out but he didn't fix it. I had to go buy sheetrock anchors and fix it myself. The list goes on and on!!I told the owner multiple times how unhappy I am about the work and he has offered nothing. I told him I want my money back and he said he wanted to meet. The first week he canceled, the next week he didn't show up, and now this week I have heard nothing. At this point I feel like I am being ignored. I have never seen a more incompetent group of individuals in my life. Horrible work and terrible communication. Good luck if you think you will get any sort of decent work out this business!!

After I paid them almost $5000 To paint my house and my deck we realized that they use the wrong paint on my deck and it only lasted two months. After eight months of them promising to redo it i’m still waiting. Now he tells me that since I only paid almost $5000 I got what I paid for! That’s a Bizzarre attitude for business owner. I would show a picture of how my deck is now and you would be appalled. But this site does it allow it.The owner’s response is hilarious. He even shows you where they say they will fix it at no cost to me because of course it wasn’t my fault. We don’t even have a shovel here why would people that rent a house for two days take out a shovel and shovel the front deck the back deck and the stairs! He doesn’t mention the fact that there’s still the green paint underneath so I guess my tenants also painted! LOL And I guess he doesn’t know how to count because It really has been 8 to 9 months. My first complaint was in November and it is now August! He did the job in October, so why anything would be peeling after one month! And Home Advisors is suggesting that I call the attorney general, which I will be happy to do so and they cut off all his advertising. So who’s telling the truth.

What a Joke! Don't waste your time with this one. One of the most unprofessional companies I have ever worked with. They send out a guy to do an estimate on remodeling my basement and exterior painting. The guy shows up without a tape measure or even a pencil. I had to loan him both. It just got more ridiculous from there. The secretary Madison is a rude millennial with no customer service skill what so ever. Very unpleasant experience!

Could not have been happier with the services provided me by Appalachian Construction and Handyman! Mike and Adam did what they said they were going to do even faster than committed. I have often times found it difficult to find service providers in the Boone area that put emphasis on customer service. Appalachian will be first call going forward.

Had them strip paint off of a huge deck, railings, and front steps and then stain. Took longer than I (and they) thought it would, mostly because of consistent rain in the forecast, but Will did a great job on the final product and the whole staff was in constant communication with me about what they were doing and when they were doing it.

Workers all showed up on time. All work I requested except one was performed to my standards. One item I was quoted on they were not able to do without me paying more than quoted due to the worked that quoted me did not study the job properly. I did not want to pay the much higher price. I would hire them again but I would hold them to their quotes that time.
