This is going to be a long review, but hopefully worth it for anyone considering using this company. The short review is: use this company without any question or hesitation. Here begins the long version: I am a 22-year-old first-time homebuyer. I decided to take a risk and buy an older home in the Raleigh market. When I bought it, I knew I would need a new roof because there is no telling how old the roof it had was (my guess would be a few decades old). It is also a unique house in many ways, but in one way because it doesn’t have a traditional shingle roof; it’s more of a roll-on flat roof. I started out getting quotes from other companies in my area. The first quote I received was over $40k. That astounding price really discouraged me. The next company quoted about $29k. Better, but still too expensive for me. Fast forward a few weeks, and I’m walking around a home show in my area. It was very underwhelming, except for Big Bear Roofing. So I go over to it and representative Chris W is there. I ask him if their company does flat roofs and I filled out a form. That next Thursday, he and another representative were at my house with a drone and were coming up an estimate for my roof. I really appreciate how they took me seriously as a young homeowner and they did everything they could to explain things and to help my process go easier. My parents were so impressed with them at the home show and even got a roof from this company because Big Bear Roofing helps speak to the insurance company for you. Since I had just bought my property, I couldn’t go through insurance. They quoted me about a third of what the first company did. I agreed to it and chose out a color for my roof. Due to supply chain issues, there was difficulty obtaining the roof color I wanted, but I waited and they found the roof material for me. The production manager Scott M called me the Friday before the roof build and explained the process and what I should expect. Monday rolls around and the crew is out at my property. The on-site project manager Caleb calls me and says that if I have any questions I can ask him any time. The team was very nice and cleaned up everything. The day after the roof build, the production manager comes by for a walk-around and makes sure everything is good to go. About a week after the roof install, we had a bad storm with lots of rain and strong winds — perfect timing. I took a look around my house and there were no leaks or any signs of any damage. I am more than impressed with this company and would like to give a special thank-you to Scott M and Caleb, and especially to Chris W for helping me throughout this entire process. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a new roof!

We had an outstanding experience with Big Bear Roofing. I contacted them via their website at the recommendation of a colleague and got a call back within a day. We worked with Ro, who very diligently educated us on roofs and the benefits of going with Big Bear - but still encouraged us to get other quotes. Big Bear won out on both price, personality, and general good business (responsive, timely, knowledgable). We were able to get on the schedule for our new roof within 6 weeks of our initial conversation with Ro. Day of the install and our positive experience continued. Denise was on the site early, super friendly and a great communicator throughout the day. Rafael and his team who performed the work did a fantastic job in record time - I have never seen such a tidy construction job site. They left our property better than they found it. I didn't know I could feel so positively about a new roof; this was truly the best home improvement project experience ever. Thanks, Big Bear!

Our experience working with and choosing Big Bear Roofing of Raleigh outdid any expectations we had when it came to this important job! They were amazing in every way possible from the sales dept. (Chris White you blew us away!), Macon who worked hard and successfully with our insurance company, and the helpful customer service/office staff. Caleb and his amazing crew of 8 fabulous hard working, quiet roofers completed the job in one day - you would never know they had been here as they left every corner of our yard clean, tidy and nail-free. They left my chimney, a mess he wanted to paint over it with the nail holes were leave a big gap between roof and siding. We discussed putting trim there, but the trim was tossed so we decided to bring the trim down when the workers got there. It was a different story. I told him not to worry about it. I’ll just get someone else to do the work very disappointing rest of the roof was good

The roof replacement was incredible and handled professionally. Noah and other employees whom I talked to were extremely knowledgeable and professional and told me just what exactly would happen. After going through the approval process with the Insurance, they set a date for the full roof installation. The old roof had water and hail damages. As per the schedule, the material arrived 2 days before installation. And 15 guys showed up on the day of installation @7 AM. They had all of the shingles of my house off and in a dumpster they brought with them by 9 am.They had all the job done by 7 pm, four groups working at the same time on different parts of the house. Unbelievable efficiency! It is a big and steep roof, and a three car attached garage! I was told by all other contractors it should take two to three days, but Big Bear did in 1 day.The manager was there on the site most of the the time to monitor the work and was also sweeping nails with the magnet. After the job was completed, the workers ensured they cleaned the driveway and the perimter of the house. The next day, as a followup the manager again turned up just to ensure and sweep any loose nails left behind. He also walked through after the job completion. Great job, professionally done, started and ended on time and left job site clean once the new roof was installed. Their crew was very professional and the quality of work was good. Since this roofing company is certified as Master Elite Contractors by GAF, their crew follows the best installation practices recommended by the manufacturer (GAF). An added advantage is additional roof warranty offered by GAF. Noah is very meticulous, professional and knowledgeable. He was in a constant communication with me throughout the project and was very responsive. Overall, I had a positive experience working with Big Bear Roofing for my roof replacement. Highly recommend Big Bear Roofing for roofing projects.

Eddie and Tommy earned my trust from the minute we first met. Eddie was professional and insightful in dealing with the insurance company and adjusters, and the team worked to find the upgraded shingles I wanted explaining the markup clearly so that I could make a good choice. In the end, when those shingles proved to be unavailable we had to go back to the original quote and then they were quick to get me on the work schedule and get the job done. Good communication around when the workers would show up and what to expect while they were there. Good tapping and pick-up/disposal of all the ripped off roof materials. Good follow up on some of the finish up items, including replacement of the hose reel that was inadvertently broken during the roof removal process. No surprises in the billing, and really effective emailing/written communication through all stages.A big win for us was that this was supposed to be 2-3 day process. When light rain was forecast for Day 2 of the process, they were able to show up with a double crew and get 95% of the job done in 1 long day, with a smaller crew following up on tuesday to complete. They coordinated photos and follow up inspection with insurance to prove all the work had been done as specified and insurance released the hold-back check.Key for me was the confidence I had in working with Eddie and Tommy. Open discussions. Realistic projections of the job in front of us. Good materials from Atlas roofing. A good warranty. No warranty claims, but if there are problems hopefully they will be addressed with the same care and professionalism as the install.Service: Roof installation

This company has the best professional service. Rudy was so patient and detailed in explaining the different options we had for a new roof and remained honest with us the entire time. He worked diligently with our insurance company to get things started. Rudy really went above and beyond to get everything taken care of. My wife and I had an excellent experience with Big Bear Roofing. They were very good communicators, and showed patience in dealing with our insurance company, which was a little slow in making decisions at times. They replaced our old roof in one day. The crew showed up a little after 7 am and worked until after 8 pm to complete the job. My wife and I were appreciative of that because the weather forecast had changed and was calling for rain the next morning. The crew members were pleasant to deal with and did a thorough and professional job. The clean up and follow up were outstanding. I want to particularly single out Jon Robohn, who was our main point of contact with the company, and who was easy and a pleasure to work with. Update 5/16: I received the check today, so I’m changing my review from 1 to 3 stars. At this point, I am happy to have a refund for the work that didn’t end up being possible to be completed as quoted. If it was easier and faster to have that corrected, I would give another star, but it took a lot of time and talking to fix it, so this is where it lands for me.Update 5/8: after writing my review, I got some calls from several people at Big Bear. On 4/27, as the reply says, I was promised a refund of $350 for the portion of the quote for replacing the flashing. I have not yet received it.Imagine if you went to a garage with a flat tire and they sold you a new tire and only gave you a patch, charging roughly $1500/hr for labor. That's my experience getting a repair from Big Bear Roofing.I had Big Bear come out for an estimate on a leaking pipe vent boot. After Diego looked over everything, he told me some flashing was done wrong. This flashing was at a front facing wall, but he pointed at step flashing nearby and said it should look like that. He claimed the flashing should not be visible and it should run under the shingles. This didn't seem right to me, but he insisted it was wrong, so I went with it. I was quoted $650 to seal and re-nail two pipe boots, "remove current flashing and replace with proper flashing," and caulk some other exposed nails. Diego asked if I had any spare shingles so they could get more matching shingles when covering the flashing and I did not, so he said they'd match it by some other means.Later that day, a worker came out and asked if I had any shingles. There was a language barrier, but I tried to tell him I didn't and he seemed to get the point. He was a nice guy and helped me throw a tarp over my chimney, which was also leaking. After that, he spent 20-25 minutes caulking the vent boots without renailing them (there's another loose nail already) and shimming a piece of flashing under the "incorrectly done" flashing and left saying "my boss will come back for the shingles." No one else came by that day, so the flashing had not been replaced.The next day, I get an invoice and I paid it, thinking I was supposed to pay it whenever and the remaining work would still get done. Well, the following business day, I get an email with a "certificate of completion" for work that was not yet done.I called and asked about this, and Diego gave me a line like "oh, I was going to come by to check the work, but I couldn't because there was rain and then I was out, but I can come by this week." Later that week, another guy, Scott, comes out to look at things and spends the whole time pointing at other things and calling them problems and spending very little time talking about the problems I had with the incomplete work. He suggested trying to find out if the roof was under warranty, which was helpful because I hadn't considered it (we recently moved in), but when I asked "okay, and if I get this stuff handled by the warranty, will you refund me for the work that wasn't completed?" he hemmed and hawed and said I'd have to ask sales.Well, I couldn't find the original roofers and now I'm not getting calls back from Big Bear and all I've got was some caulk, a trimmed piece of flashing, and 20-25 minutes of labor for $650, which is basically $1500-2000 an hour. And one of the pipe boots already has another loose nail.

Upon my request, an amicable staff member quickly inspected the roof. After the report, I decided on the new roof installation, and the process was conducted professionally. A staff member explained the available materials and the pros and cons of each, with no pressure to go one way or another. The roof was installed in a full day of work, and the staff protected sensitive areas around the house. They also cleaned well after completion, using magnets to remove nails that inevitably fall while removing the old roof. Staff members returned to review the work and check with me if everything was as requested. The company even installed features to bring the roof to the current construction standards. We just had our new roof replaced by Big Bear. They have been truly amazing. Each person we have dealt with have been kind and knowledgeable. Trey even came out when our insurance adjuster was there to make sure he met with them as well. Tommy and his father Tom, who came out today to inspect after the roof was done, were so friendly and caring. The crew they used to install the roof were there on time and start to finish was just a few hours! What a great team and their clean-up was amazing. I highly recommend using them.
