HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Could not be happier with Ellington Woodworks building our screened in patio and deck. Jim and Mark were an absolute pleasure to work with. Worked on our project consistently day in and day out to get it done in a timely manner rather than juggling many projects at once. Always showed up on time, were responsive, and continually kept us up to date on project progress. Not once did we ever wonder if or when Jim would show up. Aside from the professionalism, the quality of the work and materials is OUTSTANDING. So many nuances throughout the project that really made the build first class and certainly things we would not have thought of to ask for. Jim and Mark clearly take pride in their work and it showed every day. We could not be happier with the outcome and can't wait to show it off to all of our family and friends!

Jim from Ellington Woodworks did an absolute FANTASTIC job on our backyard project, we could not be more pleased or happier with the finished project. Jim used top of the line materials and kept the project on schedule and followed through on every detail. Jim also arrived everyday at the exact time he indicated the day before. He delivered on his promise and we now have the most beautiful backyard in our neighborhood!

We are fortunate enough to be the return clients of an amazing contractor! Jim and his brother Mark are a team that can’t be beat. They added a screen porch with Velux sky lights and low voltage lighting that is absolutely beautiful. Very professional and with the unmeasurable highest integrity. Thanks Jim for another great job!!

We have used him for more than thirty years in now our second house. I regularly recommend him to people who ask including another neighbor a couple doors down the street. I first used him following the tornado that struck north Raleigh in 1987 which did $10,000 worth of damage to my house and was so happy that I have used him for a wide range of things ever since. This includes repairs ranging from custom cabinets in my first house through replacement of skylights in the sunroom of my current house through leak repairs around my chimney to most recently redoing our guest bathroom and large deck. Most recently we had our guest bathroom completely redone - down to the floor joists and wall studs. We are extremely pleased with the result including a new shower, sink, etc. In addition at the same time, we had Jim replace our rather large deck which was beyond showing its age with loose deck boards and other issues. We love the new deck including small deck lights added to several posts.About 10 years ago, my skylights were leaking during heavy rains and I had him take a look. He explained that skylights have types that are specific to the pitch of the roof line and whomever had installed the skylights in my sunroom had used the wrong 'class' of skylight for the roof pitch. He replaced them ~10 years ago and I have had no problems since. He is one of only a couple of authorized contractors for Velux brand skylight he installed.I have many stories of quality service and work from him through the years including oversight of subcontractors who did work for him. Jim was so unhappy with the caulking job a subcontractor did when painting my first house that Jim made the subcontractor recaulk the outside of the house plus paint several interior rooms for me to 'make it right'.He is not the cheapest person you will find - I would put his prices at above average - but he does the highest quality work. You can easily find cheaper but I think your will have a hard time finding someone who does better work.

We've had Jim Ellington work on our older 1952 house several times, including a major addition/renovation in 1996. Hurricane Fran dropped a huge tree on the house in the middle of the project, and before the winds had died down Jim had chainsawed his way to our house to help us out. We had him back this year to update several things and as always, the quality of the work was excellent. His estimates are fair, and he always does quality work. He cares about his clients, and he and his crew are pleasant to work with. I pretty much won't let anyone else work on my house.

Ellington’s Woodworks was a very professional company with high quality work. Jim replaced our windows and did work on our dormer. He was very prompt and arrived at the exact time he told us. We felt secure in his advice and knowledge. This was the second time we had Jim do work on our house. We highly recommend Jim and his company.

A roofing company not only damaged 2 skylights but also installed the wrong flashing kits on them when reroofing my home. I was fortunate that the roofing company then hired Jim Ellington to replace the skylights as he is one of the most professional contractors I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Jim did not just send out send out others to do the installation but he personally performed all work along with a very experienced employee. Jim is very knowledgeable, arrived when promised, performed the work quickly, cleaned up afterwards and is one of the few contractors I would happily use again.Jim Ellington is rare combination of general contractor and a skilled and honest craftsman.

After having conversations and getting quotes from other companies, we found Ellington Woodworks and knew within a matter of minutes, that we had finally found the right company. We had skywindows and an exterior door replaced and deck railing and steps replaced. Jim was so easy to work with, answering questions completely. I always knew what to expect each day. We love our new windows and door. The deck railing and steps are beautiful and solid! The price was within our budget. If something did not need to be replaced, Jim was honest and told us. Honesty is a bit rare these days. I also truly appreciated how Jim and Mark respected our home and made sure nothing was left out at the end of their day, that could be a hazard to our grandchildren. We will only do business with Ellington Woodworks!!

We have used Ellington Woodworks five times and have always been impressed with their work. I call Jim Ellington and he comes by and diagnoses the problem, gives me an estimate, then does an amazing job for the estimate or less! They have replaced skylights, windows, and large sections of our roof. He is one of the most competent contractors I have ever worked with! You will always get high quality work for a fair price!👍 Excellent

I can't say enough good things about Jim Ellington and his brother. I had a leaking skylight that was installed by a large roofing contractor. Jim agreed to take on the job. He arrived on-time and immediately diagnosed eight installation issues. Unfortunately, the problems were too severe to correct but Jim was able to provide me the information required to get the original company to agree to replace the skylight under their warranty. Would definitely recommend Ellington Woodworks for any skylight issues.

Ellington Woodworks was recommended to me by a neighbor who had previously used their services. I hired them to replace a leaky skylight, repair rotted fascia / soffit / chimney insert, roofing repair and general roofing work and gutter repair / covers. They showed up when they said they would, on time every day and with a great personality to boot. The work done was fantastic and professional. I really appreciate that they fixed what I needed without adding extras like some other home repair companies do. The prices for the work were very reasonable. I would highly recommend using Ellington Woodworks services and I plan on hiring them for upcoming work that I still need done. I look forward to working with you guys again!Services: Refurbishment, Waterproofing, Gutter cleaning

After calling several roofing companies, we luckily found Ellington Woodworks. They replaced an old leaking skylight in our kitchen for half the price we had been quoted elsewhere and were able to start the work almost immediately. The skylight looks great and doesn't leak. Jim and his brother Mark were very personable, professional, knowledgeable, and timely. Will definitely use them again should the need arise!

Jim was prompt, courteous and professional throughout the entire process. I have never met a tradesman who was on time to a job site. Jim actually arrived early! He and another coworker installed a large double window in our dining area and completed the job in a day at what I thought was a very reasonable price. With Jim you get punctuality, value, excellent communication, and many years of experience remodeling homes in the Raleigh area. I will be recommending him highly to others in the future!

Mr. Ellington installed 2 skylights for us. He did an excellent job. He was meticulous and understood the importance of the appearance of the end result. He communicated well and frequently. Because the timing of the job was dependent on weather, he remained flexible and worked with us to get it done in a timely manner, but never rushing or trying to "squeeze it in." We are very pleased with the job he did for us and we would use him again.

Another thumbs up for Ellington Woodworks. As others have stated Jim was prompt with a quote, extremely knowledgeable, took time to review options and was able to schedule the replacement of an old "bubble" skylight in reasonable time. They were diligent about removing a ton of old material pulled from the roof ... except for the new, clear skylight you would never know they had been by. I would not hesitate to recommend them or use their services for other general contractor work.

Ellington Woodwork replaced two leaky skylights for me and they look fantastic. It poured rain that night, but my new skylights were completely dry. Jim was very professional and diligent with sending his quote, references and insurance information. He worked with my schedule which was extremely helpful. I highly recommend this company. Faith

I 100% recommend Ellington Woodworks. Jim Ellington gave a very reasonable quote, responded quickly to emails, showed up on time and he and Mark completed a very difficult and dangerous replacement of two skylights. They maintained professionalism with a little humor thrown in throughout the job and both were a great pleasure to do business with. I cannot recommend them enough. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again if the need arises. Nora

Mr. Ellington did a great job describing what I needed, where to locate, and other important facts about skylight installation. I really like the skylights that were installed, and he [Mr. Ellington] did a fantastic job with the [skylight installation], along with a rustic valance. He comes highly recommended by me and I would definitely use him for other home improvement projects. Oh! did I mention that the 6 foot 8 Mr. Ellington has a great sense of humor, along with great work.

After dealing with a leaking old skylight for several years, I finally called Jim to take a look and see what he thought. He was very easy to schedule with, arrived on time, and was a pleasure to work with. Jim could tell right away what was going on and even knew some of the construction/installation history of my neighborhood. He and his team very quickly were able to remove my old skylight which had been installed incorrectly and overtop another botched job, get all the mess torn out, and put in a new correctly installed skylight. Fast, professional, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I'd recommend Jim to anyone and will definitely call him in the future if I need other work done.

We really can't say enough how much we appreciate the quality of work that was done on installing our NEW SKYLIGHT by Ellington Woodwork, Inc. We truly do love the quality of work that was done. We're quite pleased. They're the best in the business; dependable, efficient, trustworthy, and you never have to guess whether their finish product would be awesome, because it was! Kudos to James Ellington and his dedicated brother Mark...JOB WELL DONE!

EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT!!!! We hired Ellington Woodworks to add a sewing room, remodel a laundry room and gut and remodel a master bedroom/bathroom. We are beyond pleased with the entire job. There are a few things that really made this experience the best:Jim kept us informed as to what to expect daily. If things didn’t go exactly as scheduled, he always called to let us know and a resolution was in place as quickly as possible. He was always up front and completely honest about every phase of the job. I was completely comfortable with him having keys to our home. Having to be working where we were living, he was always considerate of our privacy. In addition, I was very impressed with his knowledge and the advice he offered….he knows what he’s doing!!! The work was excellent…..no “cutting corners” from Jim…..in fact, he goes the extra mile to make sure the work is a perfect as possible.I’d hire them again “in a New York minute” and you won’t be disappointed if you let them handle your projects. Wish I could have them remodel my entire house. They will be our friends forever!!!Mary and Bill Richardson

Jim replaced two failed skylights with new Velux units. He is very responsive, professional, pleasant, and has a deep commitment to doing the job correctly that is hard to find. I believe we got a good value and will have him back soon to upgrade two other skylights to modern energy efficient replacements with solar powered shades. Timing is good as Jim helpfully pointed out the latest IRS rebate which is vastly improved from before. Update June 2018: Still very satisfied after Jim installed the two additional skylights with solar shades as well as a new front door and crawlspace door. He does great work.

We hired Jim to put Everlast siding on our house, after reading positive reviews of Ellington Woodworks. We chose to go with Everlast Advanced Composite Siding for our siding project. When we first saw the j channels and trim on the front of the house, we assumed it was not finished. The edges were roughly cut, and the joints were not mitered; while the Everlast siding, itself, looked fine.We were so unhappy with the appearance and quality of the j channels and corners, that we sent Everlast a letter about it. They were so concerned, they sent a rep to our house, who informed us that it was not their product. They made inquiries and informed us that Jim got two quotes from Richard’s supply: one with Everlast corners and j channels, and one with cheaper, flimsy vinyl. Jim chose the vinyl without consulting us, no doubt to save himself money, in cost of materials. We never had a chance to get the right product for our house. Now, we are left with the inferior product, due to Jim’s decision not to inform. We are left to live with his poor judgement, or pay thousands of dollars, to correct for Jim’s witlessness and ineptitude. We wanted this project to be a one-time home improvement; with improvement being the key word. Instead, we are out several thousands of dollars and years of regret for our choice of Jim and Ellington Woodworks.Speaking of Jim’s ineptitude, he also hung shutters at different heights, leaving us with holes in the siding. All he had to do, was to look at how the other shutters were hung. So now we have additional holes in our siding, again thanks to his lack of basic carpentry skills. If you Google “carpentry skills,” you should see a list of several skills a carpenter should possess to be successful. Of those skills, Jim certainly displayed deficits with regard to Communication, Attention to detail, and Problem solving. He did not miter the window trim, and we are left with the “band aids” to cover up for the corners with the inferior product. He wasted thousands of dollars of our money by choosing an inferior product to mix with the Everlast. We would have gladly paid the difference to have better materials and are left, instead, with something that cannot be undone without paying 10,000 or more, thanks to Jim.He also damaged some corners of our windows, by smashing them, leaving holes open to the elements. He was extremely motivated to leave the project. The only way to correct for the Jim’s incompetence, is to pay thousands of dollars, where we already out of thousands of dollars that we will never recoup. We strongly do not recommend Ellington Woodworks. Our experience with Jim and Ellington Woodworks has left us with botched work, and anger and disappointment.Service: Exterior finishing

Ellington woodworks installed two beautiful skylights in our house. Definately the nicest most responsive contractors I have ever spoken with. While he was here, I was able to ask him many questions about other things in my house, and he was very good at anticipating and explaining things to me. He was also very honest and did not sell me a roof I didn't need. How good is that?! I highly recommend!

I've had Mr. Ellington do carpentry work in my house on four different occasions over the past 10-12 years, and he does a fantastic job! The jobs included installing a large skylight on the north side of my house, installing a new 8 ft. Pella sliding door, installing a clear coated pine tongue & groove ceiling, and a smaller repair job after having some plumbing work done. In each instance, he was very professional, timely and dependable. The quality of his work is outstanding, and he is personally involved in every aspect of the job. Of particular importance to me, he doesn't farm out part of the job to unskilled helpers as some other carpenters do. Before Jim did the first job on my house many years ago, he told me that his goal was that I was completely satisfied, and that he believed in spending the time necessary to do the job right the first time. I can attest to the fact that the quailty of his work has stood the test of time at my house, and as a homeowner, I'm very grateful that Mr. Ellington doesn't rush the job and cut corners. Based on my experience, if Jim Ellington works on your house, he'll do the job right the first time and treat your home as if it were his own.

I had Mr. Ellington come look at my leaking skylight after another contractor failed to follow through with completing the work. Mr. Ellington came out immediately to look at my skylights and was able to tell from the ground that both skylights were installed incorrectly and needed to be fixed. He told me he could use the original installation parts to fix the skylights as opposed to ordering new parts as the other contractor planned to do. His quote included fixing both skylights for $100 less than the other contractor was going to charge me to fix one. He scheduled an exact date and time to do the work two days later and showed up when he said he would. I was impressed from beginning to end with Mr. Ellington's knowledge, responsiveness and work. If you need skylight installation or repair, I would not call anyone else.

Jim and Mark with Ellington Woodworks provide top notch carpentry work and are an absolute pleasure to deal with both through the planning phase and during the construction. Their work was done professionally, timely and at an extremely aggressive price. Will definitely be using them again for our home renovation needs.

I've had Jim come twice now (March and Dec 2018) to replace the leaking flashing on two different skylights. The first time I thought that I needed the skylight replaced, however when they got everything opened up, they determined it was just the flashing. So they saved me some money. The second time they came out and did another great job. Both times their prices were reasonable, they were punctual, and they did good work. Jim even took the time to show me why the leak was occurring in the first place.

I'm so happy with our new wood decks. The quality is great. I really like the way Jim did the steps. The LED lighting is a big plus too. In addition to a great job, Jim is easy to work with and always professional. HIGHLY Recommended!

We would highly recommend this company. We had Jim Ellington come in for an estimate for replacing skylights. He was early to the appointments, both for the quote and job. The skylight replacements were done swiftly and it looks good with no leaks so far!
