From the initial visit to the completed project, we could not have had a better experience. Everything was explained well, communication was amazing, the project was completed on time and everyone was the ultimate professional. I would not hesitate to recommend Deckmasters!

We had the BEST experience with Scott and the team that built our deck. Scott was creative in the design and very knowledgeable! He was fun to work with! The young men that built the deck had a work ethic like you rarely see anymore. They showed up early and stayed late each day. They were polite and very good in their building skills!! You get what you pay for and we are so glad we picked Deckmasters!!

From the moment I walked into the door the first time until the moment our deck was completed was just a wonderful experience. We were treated with respect, our questions were answered and just overall great customer service. The quality of the finished deck was amazing. The crew that came and installed were professional and courteous. Everything exceeded my expectations and would highly recommend this company to anyone!

From the first time I first walked into the Deckmasters Supply Store to the last time I was there I had nothing but good customer service. They listened to why I was there, what I currently had for a deck and pergola and why I was looking for a new deck and pergola. I explained to them the direction my deck faces, the amount of sun exposure, and openness to northwest winds. I was shown what options where available, what the products looked like, the durability of the products, various materials available, features available, and given recommendations. I asked many questions, got answers, and then asked them to explain anything I did not understand. They were patient with me, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Josh was a pleasure to work with, always willing to do his best to meet my construction needs, and the materials Deckmasters supplied for me were top notch, and I would highly recommend them as a company that works for their customers. The Deck also turned out beautifully.

What I expected was a simple rectangular deck with fascia mitered at the corners and a box-type step centered below the opening in the railing.Instead of centered below the rail opening, the step was offset by several inches so one side lines up with the front edge of the deck and extends beyond the concrete pad at the bottom of the step. The response from the manager says that offsetting the stairs is a “common practice to maximize the opening width for furniture, etc.” How would it maximize the opening? He wrote that they “generally plan to have the step end with the outside of the deck to allow for you to add a section of stair railing if its eventually desired”. Its one step. Offsetting it left a gap at the other end where there is no step below the opening in the railing. If you want the step to end at the outside edge of the deck, maybe you should add a few inches to the step so it also extends to the post at the other end of the opening. I didn’t expect nor want it to extend to the outside edge of the deck.Their manager further explains that the angled cuts on the fascia are caused by the need to connect a 12” board to an 8” board. “When you miter to different sized items it creates an odd angle to get it to line up. This is 100% acceptable and is standard practice.” If the deck had been built the way I expected, there would have been no need for two unequal width boards to connect like that. There was no indication until it was in place that there would be a diagonal piece blocking the entire end of the step. It was that addition that led to the fascia being cut back at weird angles and spliced together in ways that also emphasized that the pieces don’t match very well. This addition also creates what I consider to be a trip hazard at the end of the step, directly between the step and the main part of the back yard. The manager also dismisses the existence of problems and at the same time places the blame for any issues on me by saying that the “issue that you think is created” would have been avoided if the plan had included a “border edge that you opted not to go with”. (That I think is created? I’m pretty sure it would be an issue for most people who spent this much for a deck.) I did opt not to pay extra for the picture-frame edging around the edges of the deck surface because I didn't want it. There was no mention to me that this would cause any problems and it really doesn’t appear there is a relationship between the presence of a border edge and the problems with the deck fascia. He said that each of their five installation crews “do things a little differently”.In addition to these problems, my deck was originally framed up to be 6” narrower than it was planned and contracted to be. Fortunately, I noticed the difference in size myself, called it their attention and they corrected it before going further. Then, instead of ending the railing at a point where it met a section of wall, they ran the railing 3 inches out from the wall for 3 additional feet to the corner. Also, the installers left my garden hose running next to my foundation when they left and I didn’t realize it until I heard our sump pump running four days later. When I brought the design problems with the fascia and stair to their attention, Dockmasters responded that correcting them would be a “change order” and I would be charged for time and materials. They have now reconsidered and are willing, at no charge, to replace the 4 feet of fascia on each side of the corner that currently has the angled cuts so that it can be a mitered corner, removing the very short sections that were spliced together at angles. Since they are not replacing the entire board on each side, it will create an additional seam on each side. They are also willing to remove the diagonal board blocking one end of the step and add a toe kick instead. They have not yet addressed moving the step over to be centered on the rail opening. Landscaping around the deck is on hold until this is completed, which they which they predict will be in about 2 months.

We absolutely love our new deck and have had so many compliments on it! Josh worked around our trees and added an expansion so we have more usable space. We love to gather with neighbors and friends and love the fact we now have room for a fire pit! Josh and team were very responsive and it was great to work with them!

It was our luck day when we made a wrong turn in Fargo. Our heads swiveled as we passed Deckmasters. We turned around immediately and drove in. When we talked with Josh Smook and examined the inside displays we knew we had found the company that would build the decks for our new Deltec home. When discussing the size deck we wanted Josh told us he never had anyone say their deck was too large, always the opposite comment. With Josh's help we designed a 32' wrap around Trex main deck for our round house. We also did an 8' x 8' Trex deck off the "office." When the builders arrived, we were astonished at the quality of the dimension lumber. The crew was fantastic and REALLY KNEW HOW TO BUILD DECKS. We have had countless compliments on the quality and appearance of both decks. Love the results from Deckmasters!

I was simply looking at options and doing some comparison shopping for pergola product and pricing. The sales rep was great to take time to talk through options and give ideas.
