We hired HLF Homes at the recommendation of a co-worker to do an addition and kitchen remodel. Howard was very attentive to our project and kept the project moving, despite COVID-related severe supply chain issues at the time. Numerous frends would comment on how there always was something going on with the project. HLF Homes was very straightforward with pricing, disclosing all invoices from the subcontractors. They were excellent at ensuring everything was done to our satisfaction, quickly working to address any concerns we had. The subcontractors Howard provided were all very good, providing excellent quality, and were pleasant to work with (very important when you are living at the job site!). Overall, we are very pleased with the final product and would recommend HLF Homes to anyone who wishes to pursue a quality home project.Services: Project management, Remodeling, Home addition construction

We used HLF Homes to add a significant addition that increased our kitchen size and added a main bathroom. Howard was always on site making sure progress continued. And he answered all of my questions. We used HLF Construction to add a mother in law suite. A bedroom, kitchen, and sunroom area were added. Howard and Joe were very easy to work with. We are very pleased with the outcome.

We bought a foreclosed home and brought it back to life with Howard. I'm a fairly demanding client, but Howard always made sure the job was done to my satisfaction, and his contractors were great about explaining things when I wanted to know technical details. We got a few bids for all the work we did (top to bottom, inside and out, below ground and in walls and on the roof!). HLF homes allowed us to get the work we wanted where other contractors couldn't, because he listened and understood how to set priorities and balance the mandatory with the nice-to-haves. When I had to make sacrifices on materials or plans for our larger vision, I thought Howard did a good job of explaining what options were available and what opportunities opened or closed based on work done or problems uncovered. Recommend!

We used HLF Homes to tear down and build our home from ground up. Howard did a great job – quality workmanship and delivered right on time. We are very happy with the house and are constantly stopped and told how beautiful it came out. Highly recommend HLF Holmes.

I’ve had some bad experiences with contractors in the past, but this was by far the worst. I suppose it is my own fault for hiring him even after he called me a “potty mouth” in my own home while giving us an estimate. Despite that, I did not expect the frustration, sexism, and rudeness that continued while working with him.We hired him to create built in bookcases among other contracting tasks. I offered to show him pictures of what we wanted and a basic sketch, but he declined to look at them. When I asked him for a sketch, he told me it was a really simple design and he didn’t need to do that. When my father called, he agreed (a pattern where he would not listen to me, a woman, but would listen to my father.) Well, eventually. He first needed to tell my father that the rest of what he’d been hired for would not “be worth it” for him to do if he didn’t do the bookcase project for us. He also felt the need to say that he’s been doing this job for 30 years and he does great work. I guess he couldn’t stand his competency being questioned or something, but anyone who needs to say that and can’t prove it by their actions and the way they treat people? Yeah. After that, an architect came out with Joseph to take a look at the space and work on a sketch. During that meeting, I asked once again if he wanted to look at pictures of what I wanted, but he declined. I tried to explain what I wanted verbally, but that also went poorly. For example, I asked if he could install a shelf above the television, and he told me that was impossible and would look terrible, which was baffling to me because there are shelves like that in many houses I’ve seen? After trying for several minutes to explain this and receiving very dismissive and hostile comments from Joseph, the architect took pity on me and tried to explain to Joseph what I wanted. When the architect explained it, Joseph agreed that was probably possible and he guessed he could do it. After this meeting, he told me that he’d call in a few days to schedule a time for install. When I hadn’t heard from him, my father again called and he promised he’d get the sketch to us within 10 days of the original meeting. After 11 days, I call him and ask what’s going on and he tells me it’ll be a few more days, but he can give us our deposit back if we want it. He’s not very nice throughout this entire phone call. I call him the next day and ask for the deposit back because frankly I’m tired of the sexism and rudeness, and don’t trust him to do good work for us anymore. He seems to have changed his tune as he now tells me he doesn’t understand what the problem is since it’s only 2 days after he said he would get the sketch for us, “But if that’s what you want to do, fine,” and hangs up on me. He calls a few days later to say the check is in the mail and to assure me that “I don’t have a problem with giving this project up.” He does not apologize or give any indication that he’s caused us any hardship or treated us poorly, but no surprise there. During that call, he also mentions that he may need to charge for the sketch if the guy has already started it. Apparently, he has finished it (amazing how money can motivate), and charges us $150 for this, which is a little bit ridiculous given that every company I’ve been interviewing since has given this to us for free before we even hire them. Also, if he had the sketch already, why couldn’t he just give it to us on time? Joseph called back a couple hours later, which I didn’t answer because I was frankly tired of the verbal abuse. Who knows what he would have done next.Joseph is associated with both HLF Construction and North Coast. I would never use him or any company associated with him given the abysmal way he treated me and my family during this process. Forget the $150 he wrongly charged us, I’d just like back those 4 weeks of my life where he did absolutely nothing and treated me horribly. Save yourself the money and the trouble- he and his companies are NOT WORTH IT!Services: Home renovations, Design

Howard and his Team did an excellent job remodeling our home. HLF Homes worked inside and outside from the rooftop to the foundation with very high end finishing in between. All of HLF's contractors are "A+".

For years we wanted to add a second bathroom onto our house to create a true master bathroom. Howard and Joe helped us to do just that! They were very honest about what was required from start to finish and the end product is exactly what we wanted. They were a great pair to work with and I would highly recommend their work.Service: Project management

An addition to an existing house has a lot of moving parts, any small part can effect the whole job. Howard and Joe were great at keeping me informed of progress and what to expect next. Any small detail that wasn't done was taken care of and done right. I would highly recommend this group to friends. Thanks Howard, Joe and all the many people that made this happen.Less
