Doug Barbour is the worst contractor I've ever dealt with. I would give him zero stars if I could. He checks every box for a bad contractor: shoddy work - check. He used plywood installed vertically to support a window header which is not structurally sound. He also notched almost 50% of the width of several weight bearing studs, compromising the integrity. When I asked him to fix his mistakes, he did a micky mouse fix for part of it and never showed up to fix the rest. Over promise and under deliver - check. Doug's promises mean nothing. I lost track of how many times he told me my windows would be installed "this week,". In the end it took it him 2.5 months to install 10 windows, work that should have taken 1 week. My project was initially supposed to be done by the end of summer 2022. That was then extended to the end of 2022. That was then extended to spring 2023. Oh look! The house still isn't done. Shocking. Underbid and then over charge - check. My agreement with Doug stated that he had to get my approval for any costs that weren't on our bid or were over our bid, he failed to do this on multiple items, handing me unexpected bills for labor, and electrical and plumbing work that were double what I was expecting. Take your money and run - check. Doug paid himself for labor out of the deposit I gave him and never completed the work, despite me asking him for months to complete it. Mismanagement - check. He bungled the engineering/permit process for my deck causing additional delays. I could go on with my other grievances, but you get the point. I'll be filing a complaint with the CCB Board and it looks like I'm not the only one! Someone else filed one in January. If only I had a crystal ball (or read a review like this) I would have steered clear of this fast talking, slow moving contractor.
