Elbert re-finished my wood floors that had been painted over by previous owners. He also cut out and installed new back doors for me where before there was a window. Both things were done exactly as described and my house was left very clean and tidy. He even did a few extra touches for me including replacing a portion of the floor that was poorly done with new wood. Elbert was supposed to replace our garage header. He cut through our vinyl siding, broke our garage door and when we fired him before any more damage could be done, he argued with us and began to charge us additional fees. He took off with our $2000. We found out he is NOT licensed or bonded. We have to go to court.Service: General construction

Elbert installed a new door for us which looks great and created a railway stair guard which he had never done before now. His work was outstanding. He is easy to reach, personable, knowledgable and fair in his pricing. We will need more work done on the house at some point and we will without doubt go to Elbert first.

My wife assists with the estate of an aging parent and needed some repair work done to some of their siding on a vintage, handcrafted building. She really has her hands full managing the estate and is willing to pay generously for assistance with their house, providing the contractor is reliable and professional.Elbert was unresponsive and overall hard to reach via phone. Once reached and a mutually beneficial meeting time was agreed to, he no-call no-showed for the appointment that required a lot of calendar jostling to begin with. Not impressed and certainly not someone we are comfortable working with. This experience was both unreliable and unprofessional.

Despite several obstacle's requiring several changes in the plans, through no fault of their own, they worked with us to make the changes we needed to make without complaint and did an exceptional job. We had Elbert replace some dry-rotted supports on our front porch as well as our carport. He arrived on schedule for a free estimate and we thought he quoted us a fair price for the work. Elbert quoted best price, helped design and then delivered timely on an unconventional project to improve disability access throughout our home. Replacing a treacherous step-down into a family room with a custom landing, ramp and rail, he reversed the swing of an existing, large interior French Door and created a new "Hobbit Door" doubling access for all our family members to make quicker, safer exit from the house in case of emergency and more easily enjoy the garden. Preferred Contractors built us a 26 by 10 composite deck with a awning that covers half of the deck. The covering is connected to the roof by sky lifts and the whole project looks awesome. Elbert and Lane were able to answer questions and provide explanations and adapt to requested changes. The price was very good and the quality of work was great. I hired Elbert to fix up my old house which I was getting ready to sell. The project quickly turned into a nightmare - the sewer and chimney both failed inspection - but Elbert was there to get different quotes, manage the various contractors, and see the projects through to the end. Since I live out of state now, I couldn't have sold my house without his help. Thank you Elbert and PBC Contractors!Update - That sale fell through, and the next buyer had a different list of repairs. Elbert and PBC again stepped up, did the repairs in record time (and at a good price!) and THE HOUSE IS SOLD! Thanks again, Elbert!

Called and made an appt to get a quote. He changed the appt time which was fine but he never showed up. We had to call and he said he got busy and forgot. He finally made it to the 3rd appt time and was very rude. He kept talking over us, complained about a job he just came from. He said they wouldn't pay him because he missed a few spots when painting. The normal contractor would have gone and did the touch ups on the spots he missed, not complained saying he's not perfect. On your website it says to never give the amount of your budget. He asked our budget and then proceeded to say it would be between $10,000-$15,000. When he did get the quote to us it was $37,000. He also asked us if he was the only one bidding. He was the first but with his attitude he will not be the last.

After some siding went bad on my house due to drainage problems I called for a quote and mentioned there was also a leak at my back door and that there was a possibility of damage inside the wall. I was quoted a very fair price for the repair of the siding and upon inspection of the wall there was extensive rot in the framing around the door. They determined what needed to be done in order to fix the problem and prevent it from happening again and quoted me an excellent price on the added repairs. They were very honest, professional, did a quality job, and I would definitely hire them in the future for any repairs.

Fast, reliable service. Really helped out when we were in a pinch. Elbert removed a large built in desk and kitchen appliances, and he installed new range hoods. He also patch and painted walls and coordinated ducting repairs. Would definitely recommend to others.

I cannot strongly enough recommend Preferred Building Contractors to ANY property owner interested in getting top drawer work of multiple varieties at a most reasonable price.Accommodating, gracious, willing, open to suggestion, responsive at a rate literally unheard of in Oregon contractor time....these guys are fabulous.They were at our old yet newly purchased (1930's) home in NE Salem for a full week doing exterior rehabbing of the home's facade, painting hardwood floor refinishing inside, interior wall painting, baseboard installation, and more. Had to replace the tile floor, vanity, and toilet in bathroom due to water leak. These folks gave the most reasonable bid and did a professional job which included replacing some subfloor and custom fitting a vanity into a wall. They are easy to work with and accommodated some changes and requests during the job. Mark was very meticulous in measuring and laying the tile which resulted in a beautiful tile floor and edging. I would definitely use these folks again.
