I hired DJ because of their great reviews. They got the job done in a day, but brought another roofing company to help them without my permission and that roofing company has poor reviews online. I came across that company while I was getting quotes and didn't get a quote from them for that very reason. Daniel also never said a word to me about a permit, even to tell me I should check with my township to see if I needed one (and he works in my township often as I have seen his yard signs elsewhere). Today I got a letter in the mail from code enforcement saying they noticed the roof was replaced and I have 5 business days to show up at their office to discuss the situation. I texted Daniel and his response was well, the contract says the homeowner is responsible for all permits. Any responsible contractor would bring permits up BEFORE the job is even started.
