S&A built our BEAUTIFUL dream home. I would, and have many times recommended, them hands down! From the start, working with Anne, taking her time to pick the right home for us, to the PM Dave, always attentive & supportive from start to finish. Any hiccups that arose; which you must realize this is the reality of building and multiple contractors involved; our PM took care of right away. The continual involvement & support from this company as we have reached our 3 months mark, is just exceptional. This company truly cares about their clients. Great quality work and we would not change a thing!

“Two more weeks” is their catchphrase. Communication and planning is not their strength. The excuses become comical. We have been in our house for about a year. The building process was awful. No communication from the project manager or him telling us that the schedule is pushed back. This or that will be done and it never was. The house would sit untouched for weeks. Inches of rain, ice and slush sitting on our floors. The rafters sitting out in the mud for months. Window seals had water damage. The crew going home early because they smelled gas even though no propane was on the property. Then when it’s all finished you get to make a “punch list”.The punch list is a list of stuff that needs fixed. They call and schedule a time for you to let them in. Then call an hour before and say I forgot about a safety meeting. Problem is they give you the days and times they can show up. Not once but three time now. Communication and planning lacks in all departments of this company. Please save yourself some heartache and use a different builder. They don’t care about your time all they want is your money.

If you desire a quality build, work with the quality people of S&A Homes in the Altoona/Duncansville office. Having interactions with the excellent staff of, Anne, Rich, Ken and Rory during each step of the way, reinforced our confidence in our choices. We built in 2017 with S&A and I must say it was the best decision we ever could've made regarding a new home. We had searched for 10 years prior for a location and a builder. The process from beginning to end was handled with the highest quality of customer service. Every question or concern was answered promptly. The lines of communication were always open and we felt valued as a customer. There was always notification of any issues or changes during building. No surprises. Once our plans were in place, things moved quickly and efficiently. This accountability carried over even after the home was completed. We recently returned from a vacation and upon arriving I said to my husband " we're back in our beautiful home and it still even smells new!"

***S&A recently claimed that they are not responsible for the faulty piping in my radon system. Interestingly, this was not their position when I first contacted them in December 2022 or in my monthly follow-ups until December 2023. What adds to the intrigue is that Chad from S&A contacted me before their public response, offering financial compensation to remove my post and keep my experience from reaching other consumers. I declined the offer, but it raises questions about the consistency of S&A's stance. So, is it really in the contract, or is there enough basis for them to pay me to remove the post? I've used my real name here, and if you know me or someone who does, feel free to ask about my overall customer service experience with S&A – it goes beyond just this incident.***I tried to not write this review with the hopes that S&A would do the right thing, but I wish someone wrote this for me when I was looking for a home builder. I want to say that the creation process was amazing and the building process was ok, but once the house was built it has been an uphill battle with S&A, which, because they refuse to engage, will most likely sadly end in court.S&A improperly installed my radon system, which is a professional opinion the company I have hired to fix the issue. Radon is an odorless, invisible, radioactive gas naturally released from rocks, soil, and water. I contacted S&A December 2022 about the improper installation and continued to contact them throughout the year. I did not hear back from S&A until December 2023, a full year later, that they would not be fixing my radon system. Radon exposure poses serious health risks, including an increased risk of lung cancer, and any delay in rectifying faulty installations can exacerbate these dangers. S&A's negligence in addressing the situation promptly not only jeopardizes our health but also underscores a lack of responsibility towards ensuring a safe and secure environment I filed a complaint with Better Business Bureau, which has helped with various other issues I have had with S&A, but that did not work this time. I don't see how S&A believes that they bear no responsibility for radon installation when that is what I paid for. As I mentioned, this will probably have to be brought to court.Below is the message from the Radon professionals, who will be fixing the issue (out of my own pocket):I reviewed your current radon system and have a few comments. The attempt to seal the area behind the passive pipe installed by your builder appears to be adequate. However, the manometer reading is very low even for the fan that’s been installed. Those low levels are indicative of a fan sucking in air through a crack or cracks. Furthermore, your continued elevated concentrations of radon in your house indicate the system isn’t working. Therefore, I recommend installing a new suction point near the middle of the basement adjacent to the staircase and connecting it to the system. The original suction point will be equipped with a gate valve that’ll be almost closed to allow for condensation drainage. The rest of the suction from the fan will be focused on the new suction point. The proposed cost is $700 plus $150 for the official test once the levels are below the proposed limit. Please let me know how you’d like to proceed or if you have any other questions.Below is a gist of what S&A responded back with (I am purposely not quoting them directly, in case that is an issue for whatever reason):S&A bears no responsibility for tasks involving radon mitigation, radon fan installation, or any radon-related matters. Every customer signs an acknowledgment in their sales contract, clearly stating that S&A is not accountable for radon mitigation or home radon levels. We highly value Mr. Paris as a customer, and our team will meet with him to clarify that the responsibility for radon mitigation or installing a radon mitigation system does not fall under our purview.

Can not say enough about the customer service at S&A. Our project manager Dave was so patient with us with all of our questions, requests (and demands) 😅. Very professional & never showed frustration. He always responded to us in a timely manner and showed up when needed - including after we moved in! Anne helped us design our house & was also incredibly helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. The only complaint I have about S&A as a whole is some of the contractors/suppliers they use, who showed no urgency or concern to fix problems after being contacted by myself & our site manager multiple times.Services: Custom home design, Home building

Will not be building or using s&a homes again! Issues started when building.. asked for certain things and was told no but the house down from ours got what we wanted...Have only lived in our house 7 months and our lights downstairs stairs flicker (had someone out to fix it and whatever they did it didn't work), our breaker for our room kept tripping(had someone out to fix but it didn't do anything), and now something is up with our water heater( have had no hot water for 2 days now and being told it will be at least another day before its fixed(I have a 7 year old and I'm pregnant and it's winter time.
