Let me preface this review by stating that we seldom write negative reviews about a company/business - everyone has a bad day now and again - but we felt compelled to write this review after our experience with Welsh Run Builders.We own a historic log home and we are in the process of adding an addition, which we want to be historically accurate. A neighbor was having some work done by Welsh Run Builders and he mentioned our project to Brad Hawbaker of Welsh Run Builders. Brad had told our neighbor that he had recently torn down an old historic barn and had the timbers available to build our addition if we were interested. I arranged for Brad to come to our home and look at our proposed project. Brad arrived at the scheduled time and was friendly, and knowledgeable.Brad stated he had plenty of barn timber to do our project and he would put together a quote for the materials and labor costs. Brad then invited us to go to the location where he had the materials stored so that we could see the timbers. Brad also invited us to go with him to see a small barn he was in the process of building with some of these timbers. We went to the location (40-minute drive) the following week to look at the timbers and the small barn project he was working on. The timbers were exactly what we were looking for and the small barn he was building looked great. While at the site he provided us a blueprint and a written quote for the barn timbers and labor costs to do our project. We agreed with the quoted price and Brad said he would contact someone to do the foundation part of the addition project. The following week the foundation contractor that Brad contacted for our project came out and took measurements etc. He said he would provide a quote for his part of the project and get the information to Brad.Two weeks later the foundation contractor informs us that he has unable to get in touch with Brad. We texted Brad to let him know that the foundation contractor had been trying to contact him. Previously, when we called or texted Brad we got a fairly quick response. This time however, we did not get a response.After a week and a half with no response from Brad we called him. I told Brad the foundation contractor has been trying to contact him. Brad made several minutes of evasive, awkward small talk, then suddenly stated that his brother-in-law asked him to build a barn for him using the timbers that Brad had previously quoted us a price for. He then stated that he hoped we understood that he would not be selling us the timbers because his family comes first, and since his brother-in-law wanted those timbers in his barn, he was getting them. I understand taking care of family, I also understand integrity and the importance of honoring your word.The following day, when we contacted the foundation contractor to let him know that Welsh Run Builders would no longer be involved in our project, he told us that Brad told him the week prior that he had no intention of doing our project.Long story short, we recommend that anyone who is considering Welsh Run Builders for any construction project to consider carefully and beware that neither honesty nor integrity apply if you are not related to them. I would make sure to get everything in writing and have a signed contract so you are not left hanging like we were.
