John did a fairly substantial renovation of our condo. We gutted our kitchen, added new built-ins throughout our house, repainted, added new wood trim, and updated much of the lighting. John did a great job for us and I would highly recommend. He did a great job and 6 months after he finished everything is still looking great. John takes his time and makes sure the quality is there which was exactly what we wanted to optimize for. He does a lot better job than many other contractors that rush through a job as fast as possible and make a mess of things. We lived in our place while he was renovating and he was very conscientious about leaving he place clean and taking care not to damage anything. John Mitchell renovated our kitchen and did an amazing job. He was not only extremely professional, and reliable/on time, but he showed he could do it all, and with great ingenuity. John installed our new Ikea kitchen, including the cabinets, appliances, tile backsplash, and lighting, and even created customized Ikea cabinets to size when the exact ones we wanted were not available. John was able to offer design advice where needed, and demonstrated tremendous attention to detail. He even finished a few days early. My husband and I were so pleased with the results and the quality of the workmanship that we would recommend him without reservations to anyone looking to do anything in their home from a simple refresh, to a full scale renovation. I honestly can not say enough about how well our kitchen renovation/addition went with Mitchell Renovations. There were no surprises, the work ended on time within budget, inspections were seamless, and they MOST definitely wanted to ensure we were satisfied with the work at each stage. Throughout the project, any decision that needed to made, we were given objective advice without any pressure to choose one option over another. Daily, these guys rolled up every cord, swept, organized all the tools, and were ready to go the next day. We love our new space and Mitchell Renovations far exceeded our expectations.

John Mitchell installed a dishwasher in my kitchen shortly after I purchased my first home in Philadelphia this year. My partner and I are so glad we found him; he was responsive, forthcoming, and prompt throughout our initial conversations, worked efficiently during the installation process, and he even checked back in to make sure everything was still working properly after a few months. When a minor issue came up with the appliance after installation, he worked with us to fix it fast and at no extra cost. I wouldn't hesitate to work with him again for a bigger job in the future.

We hired John from Mitchell Renovations because I wanted an IKEA kitchen and John specialized in IKEA kitchens. This was a 2 month project for John took a wall down, rearranged appliances, and did the dining room and powder room, both with IKEA cabinets. He also did our bamboo flooring on the whole first floor of living room, kitchen, dining room and powder room. And he did all of the baseboards, window and door trims. He is a wonderful carpenter and contractor.He was very organized and respectful of our home. After IKEA delivered all of the boxes, John had everything in order and organized like a fine oiled machine. His work area was always organized and cleaned up, as so was our home. He was very patient with all and every question, which I had many. IDK designs did the layout with a 15 page printout showing every measurement, which was very helpful to us.I love my kitchen, dining room, powder room and living room. He did a wonderful job and would not have been done without John. He was there everyday like clock work for 2 months, almost to the day like he predicted. He almost became part of the family. Nothing was ever a problem and he took the time and workmanship to give us a flawless outcome to our renovation.If you are looking for an IKEA kitchen, John is your man! You cannot hire any contractor to install IKEA kitchens. John knows the IKEA kitchen line like the back of his hand. He took his time and gave his input with any issue and helped come up with the best resolution, being under the sink layout or where to locate the handles on the cabinets. He did everything from start to finish, from permits to setting aside returns and purchasing parts that were needed for us.He is very professional and respectful of your time and home! Mitchell Renovations did an absolutely masterful job renovating the kitchen and powder room of our 140-year-old historic Philadelphia rowhouse. We sought them out initially because there is literally no other contractor with more experience and expertise installing IKEA cabinets than John Mitchell. Not only did they install the IKEA components perfectly, they handled every aspect of the renovation flawlessly. The carpentry, insulation, electrical, plumbing--all done expertly, passing every inspection with flying colors. John always took the time to answer every one of our questions thoroughly. They maintained the cleanest, safest, and most organized job site I've ever seen. They even went above and beyond in several areas. For example, John had custom trim milled so it would match the original historic trim used in the rest of the house. The craftsmanship of the trim work alone is awe-inspiring. They restored the original butler's pantry door for the powder room and it's beautiful. They really know how to do a renovation with modern amenities while respecting the historical integrity of the building. We were so impressed with the quality of their work that we hired them to do some other repairs. The workmanship, professionalism, timeliness, all were fantastic. Everything turned out perfect just as all the other five star reviews say. A couple of things happened that impressed me even beyond that. Several aspects of our kitchen were more complicated and took much more time than anticipated. John still honored his quote. One of the things that took longer was the widening of a small door to a large slider. The walls were not sturdy enough to hold the header. Bill, the main craftsman, spent days reinforcing things even though he could have covered up the problem areas before I saw it. I kept an eye on the work that was going to be covered up such as the wiring in the walls and the new electrical panel. Bill, who also does all the wiring, did an amazing job and the city electrical inspector confirmed that he uses pictures of Bill's work in the classes he teaches. In fact, all the city inspectors said that when they see that it's John's work, they know it's good and the inspection will be short. One of the best parts is that both John and Bill and very considerate, minimizing the intrusion and, in fact, were fun to have around. All in all, this was actually a fun experience (aside from the necessary prep work, of course).

Service Provided:John Mitchell provided us with measuring and design services for two kitchen layouts. He then completely renovated our 9’ by 15’ kitchen in our hundred-year-old Philadelphia row home. The previous kitchen was carefully demolished and cleanly removed. New floor underlayment was laid and a short wall was built out to square off the room around a load-bearing chimney. The sink was relocated to another wall and all new electrical, lights and plumbing for a dishwasher was added. Floor tile, IKEA cabinets, granite counters and glass tile backsplash were all installed. This entire process took about two months, which included two weeks of waiting for countertops to be delivered by our granite supplier and a break between Christmas and New Year’s.Experience:We interviewed four contractors prior to John and screened several more. We had almost given up hope that our kitchen upgrades were within our budget. We were so relieved when we met John and his wife Sarah. They provided us with renewed hope and put together an IKEA galley kitchen design that we previously thought would not fit in our space. Spoiler: It works perfectly. John and Sarah provided us great advice through the design phase.Once the construction work started, our happiness with John and his team only increased. John is extremely detail-oriented and clean and he only works with like-minded vendors. The first floor of our home was kept extremely clean during the entire construction process. Floor protection, a dust shield on the kitchen space itself and constant vacuuming and cleaning by John’s crew ensured that we never felt like the construction was overtaking the house and my wife, who was pregnant at the time, didn’t have to worry.This is the biggest project so far as newer homeowners and we were very pleased with John’s attention to detail and communication skills. We got to the point in the project where we trusted him to make decisions on our behalf because his attention to detail was so great. I remember several times walking the site after the crew left for the day and making mental notes of things I wanted to mention to John and the next day when he arrived, he would bring them up in conversation as if he anticipated my questions. Questions were encouraged, and none were considered too small or silly.John consulted us on little things I wouldn’t have thought of like cabinet layout enhancements and tile backsplash layout options. I also watched him recut a trim piece several times to ensure it was the perfect fit and not just an adequate fit. Most contractors would have been content with the first one and moved on, but not John. John is also generally a nice guy. Unrelated to the remodel, a pipe froze in another part of our house and he gave us advice on how to thaw it and followed up over the weekend to check on us.I highly recommend John Mitchell. He and Sarah helped us envision our ideal kitchen and made us realize it within budget while remaining communicative throughout the process. We felt informed and in good hands the entire job and plan to use him for our full bathroom remodel in the future. Our kitchen went from being our least favorite room to our favorite and receives daily use and has held up great.

John is a great contractor. We moved into our Philly home and needed a kitchen renovation. John was able to get to work quickly and helped walk us through his pricing and what could be traded out to stay in our budget. he was respectful of our space, making sure to cover and contain construction debris. He didn’t cut any corners - in fact he made a new corner in our old 200 year old kitchen wall so that our space was actually square. His timeline and estimate were spot on. During the process he helped advise us on materials and suppliers (go for the ikea cabinets but get your counters locally. Invest in a good sink and faucet…). He was friendly and personable and made us feel good about asking questions and gaining clarity around the process. We love our new kitchen!! John was extremely helpful throughout the entire process of renovating our kitchen with IKEA cabinets. John was very professional and detailed beginning with the estimate, which made us more comfortable during the stressful process. John provided suggestions as the job went on and the kitchen turned out even better than we expected. John took care of everything including demolition of a wall, electric, plumbing, tiling, reworking an AC duct, and building/installing the IKEA cabinets. The work area was kept very clean and organized. John was easy to get a hold of during the renovation and was always available to address any questions or concerns that we had. We had a very positive experience with Mitchell Renovations. We had a complete kitchen renovation and are very happy with John's work. He was thorough, professional and kept the work zone clean and organized. We have a young child and John was very considerate of her; often he was able to adjust what he was working on as to not interrupt our schedule as much. It's clear he has a lot of experience and I appreciated his judgment. The quality of the work has been excellent and John has followed up multiple times to ensure we weren't having any issues. The timeline for the work took two more weeks than originally suggested, but we did add some extra projects and ran into a couple issues. We were so lucky to find John Mitchell. We renovated a kitchen long distance and things couldn’t have gone smoother. John’s wife, Sarah, is a designer and we began with her exploring possible layouts. She helped us to squeeze out every last inch of space and had some creative solutions to deal with space constraints. John's work is impeccable. He completed an installation of IKEA cabinets in the kitchen and laundry room. We originally were going to use the group that IKEA recommended but in discussions with them, some things just didn’t sit right. We found John on Google. From our very first conversation, we knew we found the right person. His rates are quite reasonable for the quality and attention that he brings to the project.We did the design ourselves and as it turned out, not bad overall. But how I wish I had found him before the installation at the design phase!! Before he started, he laid out the kitchen on the wall, which immediately showed some of the things we had missed. John had a number of great suggestions, some of which we could implement and some we couldn't because we already had committed to the design. Luckily he caught that the island was too long and would interfere with the operation of the refrigerator. John knew every little trick for the IKEA cabinets. He works fast and very neat. The kitchen was picked up each night so there was never a mess. John is a full service contractor and we are having him back to complete the backsplash tile. IF YOU WANT AN IKEA KITCHEN YOU MUST HIRE JOHN. Try to get him involved early if you can.

Sarah Mitchell did a great design for my kitchen and gave me more cabinet and counter space than I thought possible. John's attention to detail in the construction phase was truly amazing. Even though this was a major job (moving plumbing and adding electrical), they cleaned up the work space each and every day. Since I had to live in the house during the work phase this was greatly appreciated.

Mitchell Renovations Inc completed our full kitchen renovation, from design to finishing touches, on our schedule (which was both prolonged and restricted), with supportive and clear communication, and with care and thoughtfulness in the execution.From our perspective, the project was a tricky one: we're in a rowhouse, where the kitchen is the center of activity, and we have two extremely active young children. Additionally, the 100+-year-old house had seen more than its fair share of previous modifications and the consequences thereof. The floors needed to be taken down and built up "properly," and the tired old rear patio door had been installed backwards in the first place...In the initial brainstorming phases, we met with John and Sarah about the possibilities, variations, constraints, and other tips, and they were receptive to our (admittedly naive) ideas. They offered some suggestions, but they were never pushy or dismissive. Sarah quickly drew up a plan, which we thought about for some time, and she was quick to refine it when we'd finally settled on a realistic goals. John was thoughtful about the costs and constraints, and every estimate on costs he gave was remarkably precise.Regarding the execution of the project: this went very well, coming in precisely on schedule (actually a bit early) and on cost, in spite of a few in-process modifications. John's team worked quickly and he communicated to us at each stage about the progress, plan, and any final possibilities still ahead. We were able to squeeze in an external exhaust in the microwave/fan, and the thoughtful details of the backsplash, lighting, and trim look great.Overall, we are very pleased and would highly recommend Mitchell Renovations Inc.
