My first mistake was painting before they arrived. We have since started repainting since they left the mouldings were splashed with stain as well as the wall. After they sanded off old stain it stuck to the walls and stained them as well. Poor clean up before polyurethane applied leaving our floors rough due to trash and debris, plus several spots with missing polyurethane...I was told I was pointing out brush strokes...there should not be any brush strokes, also big globs and drips of poly, chunks banged off the door frames and missing quarter round...I hired another floor company to come in after they were done and re buff and re polyurethane the floors so I could live with them...one plus the crew, Chris and gary were nice to work with...My new floor guy was also able to fix the broken board between dining & kitchen and put our pegs in the floor that I was told could not be done.

Was looking for a contractor who was willing to do tradition, site-finished hardwood floor installation in a single bedroom. I’m very happy with the job Mike and his guys did.

Mike supplied fair work at a fair price. He's a nice guy and may call his company again.However it did not start off well. One star taken off for:1. Arriving 3-4 hours late (to be fair, he called to let me know).2. Backing over and crushing a planter divider with a "sorry" without any attempt to fix it.3. Oil spots in the driveway (he's gotta know).I supplied all materials and had the room completely cleared out.The good:Accommodated my request and worked hard to install under most of the the base moldings.Re-installed the bi-fold closet doors without me asking.Assisted me with moving heavy furniture from the garage to the room (compensated him with $20 for 15 min).The not so good:In one area the sub floor was not entirely flat that I pointed out prior to installation. Was not addressed and the floor slightly gives in at that spot.Overall, it looks great. Time will tell how the install holds up and will update if necessary.Service: Install flooring

Reasonable work for a reasonable price.This review is overdue. I had Mike and his guys demo and install, basically an entire new bathroom - lots and lots of tile work, building a shower pan, and replacing sub floors. I wanted to wait on the review to make sure that everything met expectations over a period of time, and for the most part I believe it has.Good things:1) Mike was very responsive. I was impressed at his communication and it made working with them much easier. If he or his guys were going to be late, they would call me and let me know.2) Overall I think they did a good job with the install and nothing major sticks out to us after ~ 1 year.3) All of the guys were very friendly.4) They worked hard to get the job done in a reasonable time.5) Mike was great about explaining any issues they ran into and helping us overcome any surprises.Bad things:1) After Mike and his guys finished his part of the work, I had some people come by and finish installation of fixtures (toilet and vanity, etc...). There was construction debris and a small tool (pliers) left in the drain pipe of the toilet. This wasn't caught until after the toilet was installed (the debris was causing a backflow of water upon flush), so I had to have that done twice. Nothing major once the problem was identified, but also this should not have happened.2) There were a couple of surprises in the middle of the work. Admittedly, I know almost nothing about remodeling a bathroom. My wife and I had to run to Lowes on a couple of occasions to pick up items outside of the tile for the bathroom - marble slab for the shower curb immediately comes to mind. There's an argument to be made that this is entirely my fault, but I also feel that Mike should have noticed something like this before it became urgent. Our bathroom is pretty small, so the stack of materials wasn't really that big.3) Looking closely at some of the final tile that was installed (towards the end of the job) I question if that part was rushed and attention to detail wasn't as thorough as it was early in the job.4) I had asked Mike to do a little bit of work outside of what their specialty is. They did there best (which I appreciate), but I subsequently had another guy come in and (re)finish some things.5) I had to have some unrelated work done in the crawlspace later on. There was a lot of residual debris (from sub floors and concrete under the tile) left down there that had to be cleaned up.Overall, I would recommend Flaker Flooring to someone that was looking to get tile/flooring or a bathroom done. Issues we had with them were minor, but I couldn't justify a 5 star review because we did have these issues. The price was reasonable and Mike was easy to work with. We'll be getting our floors redone at some point (hopefully soon) and will definitely consider using Mike again.Oh, he also has great tastes in music.Services: Tile work installation, Remodeling

It was a bit difficult to get a convenient time for us both to get the repairs done, but it was worth the wait. I had originally chosen another company because Mr. Flaker’s starting date was later than I wanted. However, the first company never showed, so I resigned my self to waiting on Mr. Flaker. It wasn’t as hard as I had imagined it would be. He communicated his progress with me frequently. He honored his original quote even though several months had passed from 2022 into 2023. He did much of the work personally. However, the help he had finishing up the remainder of the installation were as professional as he with the same attention to detail. The work included: (1) pulling up water damaged wood flooring; (2) repairing subfloor; (3) prepping and installing new pine flooring, carefully staining and sealing it for a near perfect match of the existing floor.I would recommend Mr. Flaker’s company to anyone. Heck, I think his work was so much better than the previous refinishing, I’m considering contracting him to redo the rest of the pine floors!I wish I was computer savvy enough to post a picture of the completed project. If you are reading this review, I wish I could speak to you face to face and tell you (implore you) not to use Flaker Flooring for services. We hired them to install laminate hardwood flooring in our small condo in Keowee Key. We hired them based on decent prices and decent reviews. The contractor would often not show up on the agreed upon date or would arrive extremely late. The price was increased 2x due to complications. Once the work was "complete" there were issues. There were missing transition pieces, missing pieces near the sliding glass door, missing quarter round in areas, and bubbling in the flooring. We adressed our concerns and transition pieces and quarter round were added. Upon final inspection the cuts to the wood, around corners, vents, etc were rough. There were gaps at corners that the quarter round didn't cover and there were bubbles/humps throughout the flooring. Never have I seen floors that are not flat. We were told by the contractor that there was nothing he could do and the floors would settle. Well, about 6 months later, the bubbles have become large hills in the flooring, and the floor is rising to the point where doors no longer shut because they scrape the flooring. When we called the contractor back out, he said he had no idea why that was happening and it may have been the fault of whoever installed the quarter round (spoiler... he was that contractor). We had a reputable flooring contractor come out and inspect the floors. He said that without a doubt, this was an install error. The floors were installed way too tight. There is supposed to be space where the floor meets the wall. This is what the quarter round is there to cover. There was no space. We now (less than a year later) have to have another contractor come out, rip up the floors, and do the work correctly. Please don't trust the other reviews as we did. Please do not use this contractor. You will likely have to have the work redone.Update based on owner response below:None of what is stated is factual. I understand wanting to protect ones business and reputation but not to the point of lacking integrity. I met the contractor at the condo, his wife and child were in the car while he fixed some work. My husband met him twice. We have a written statement from a reputable flooring contractor that the issues were install error. No temp or water issues were present. The floors were too tight and no reputable contractor would have placed floors over the subfloors in the condition they were in. We were never told a thing about an issue with the subfloor. Cost was obviously not a factor as we paid $7k to have the floors replaced (yes, most were unusable again) and the work redone. We have asked Flaker Flooring to simply refund their work, and they have yet to. We can go back and forth in a he said/she said scenario. The bottom line is: if you are looking for quality work and a contractor that has integrity and will stand by their work (especially if they make errors)... look elsewhere, and be sure their work comes with a warranty.Service: Install flooring

Flaker Flooring was super responsive and available from beginning to end. I had a bit of an 'unknown situation' regarding the floor repairs that might be needed at my property and even before the contract Mike put my fears at ease by calmly educating me and showing me the work that would be needed. It's clear they know their stuff regarding floor engineering, floor construction, and flooring products (well beyond just how to "lay planks" like some of their competitors I spoke to). Mike kept me apprised every step of the way, his team always showed up when they said they would, they finished the job faster than I expected, and did 100% of the cleanup, vacuuming, and appliance moving afterward. Sonny and Greg did an amazing job not only quickly and professionally but they were extremely respectful of our home and our lives. We have three children and I work first shift and my husband works third and I was so worried that our home would be unusable or my husband would have no ability to sleep with construction going on in the house and these guys sacrificed their lunch break everyday to work through to get off earlier so that my husband could go to bed and this is no small job my entire subfloor in my kitchen and eating area and utility room had to be replaced and new studs put in and new flooring put down and I am beyond thrilled. We had water damage to an area on our beautiful oak hardwood floor that measured about 8 by 4 feet. This company pulled out the damaged boards, replaced them, and matched the appearance with the old floor nearly perfectly. If you did not know that area of the floor was damaged, you would not be able to pick it out. Great work at a reasonable price.
