We had a custom kitchen island built and 2 bathrooms gutted and remodeled by J. Martin Company. Every step was seamless and all subcontractors were amazing. Every detail was taken care of and every concern was addressed. The island and custom bathroom cabinets are beautiful, the tile work is perfect. These are the cleanest contractors we’ve ever hired, cleaning up every day before leaving. They kept to schedule and consulted us every step. We highly recommend this business!

It was a good experience working with James, his wife, and his subcontractors. James was very professional. He provided a detailed quote before starting the project. He took the time to understand what we wanted. He routinely checked up on progress of project and assisted as needed when issues came up, like they do in all projects. His subcontractors do excellent work, very meticulous. Tradeoff is timeliness. If you want top of the line workmanship and willing to give the project extra time then J. Martin Company is for you.

My husband and I are so grateful to James and his team for working so diligently to get our home ready for Christmas. We had his team remodel our kitchen and master bathroom, update the fireplace facade and staircase. He also helped coordinate getting us hardwood flooring for the entire first floor. He went above and beyond to get the job done in six weeks. All of his subcontractors do exceptional work! James completed a kitchen refresh for us. We are 100% satisfied with the work performed by the J Martin crew. We first selected James to do the work because of the attention to detail from our first meeting. He took the time to listen to what we wanted and then provided professional feedback on what he could do. I cannot forget about the patience James had with us making some last minute changes. He would always respond in a positive manner and never seemed frustrated with those changes. Before the project started, James explained the process to us; therefore, we did not have any surprises during the refresh.During the refresh, James was readily available with any questions and consistently ensured that progress was being made. He made it a project that I did not have to manage, which was a key component for us. The timeline of the work was well within the general estimated completion time from the beginning.Overall the process was very easy from a homeowners standpoint. There was little interruption in our daily lives and James made sure we got a working kitchen even before the other touchups were completed. I would/plan on using James and his team in the future for some upcoming remodels.

We had our kitchen remodeled in April this year by J. Martin Company. They did a fantastic job! They were very up front about potential problems which turned out to not be the case (Ceiling support). I am very fond of the results!! We decided to repaint the existing cabinets and created a new large island, opening up the kitchen to the living room. They added a new large spice drawer and we have had zero issues in the last 6 months. We stayed on budget and under time by a week. We will definitely call them when we redo the master bath.

Be careful if you decide to use J. Martin Company.We contracted with James Martin for a Kitchen & Utility rooms remodel – replace cabinets, countertops, appliances, etc.; downstairs painting; and downstairs floor replacement.We had several issues with the job that have left us with an unsatisfactory experience.James quoted the job and just prior to signing the contract, he stated he had forgotten to include the flooring work in his price and would have to revise his bid. We accepted this and agreed to a revised price. In retrospect this was our first red flag.James estimated the total job length to be 6-8 weeks. The demo of the existing tile and carpeted floor started on Sept 5. We packed up everything in the affected areas, including the kitchen, the week prior. The demo went smoothly and completed in 2 days. The next step was the cabinet demo and replacement. However, James shocked us with the news that he would not be able to start the next step for 2 weeks because his carpenter was tied up on some rework to finish another job with an “unreasonable customer”. So, we would be waiting an additional 2 weeks with all of our stuff in storage. We were not happy as we felt he should have told us upfront and rescheduled the start of the demo job. He knew but didn’t tell us.James started to lay the tile in advance of the cabinet’s installation. The tile was partially laid to be completed once the cabinets were in place. No complaints on the cabinet demo and installation, his carpenter, John, did a good job.The tile was quickly covered with plastic and paper for the painters. We added some additional painting work and contracted directly with the painters for that part. The painting crew consisted of the owner of the painting company, Patrick, and his workers. The work crew did a great job and were very conscientious, however anything that the owner worked on was sloppy. He spent more time denying and making excuses than it would have taken his crew to do it right in the first place. This resulted in lots of rework due to drips, missed areas, rough finish, over spray, etc. This was also the first time that Patrick and James yelled at my wife while I was not there. Not professional.At least painting is easy to fix, but the main problem and issue of contention is the tile install. The tile work was in general sloppy. On my request, levelers were used. Despite that, there are still high and low spots (lippage) in the tile installation. Also, they apparently did not use spacers as the grout lines vary from less than 1/8” to more than 1/4”. Some tile was even installed with the grain in the wrong direction and many tiles are chipped.The main issue, however, is with the grout. It was supposed to be a dark brown, but is a chalky, milky white in most places due to incorrect mixing and application. We contacted the grout manufacturer regarding this. How will this grout hold up over time? No one seems to know for sure, but it is at risk. So, our options are: remove and replace the floor, remove and replace the grout and risk damaging the tile, or stain the grout and hope for the best. James said he would only stain the grout. The grout man he sent to the house had concerns about the integrity of the grout and said it should be evaluated before proceeding with staining.Upon receiving this news, James angrily came to our house while I was not there and yelled at my wife a second time for 30 minutes. She repeatedly had to ask him to stop and then to leave. Again, very unprofessional.At this point it is mid-December and James Martin has walked away from the job. We are left to get the grout issue resolved on our own.Buyer beware.

J. Martin Company has completed 3 projects for me and I could not be more pleased with their work. They remodeled my kitchen, master bathroom, & built custom bookshelves for my reading room. From the initial contact I had with them through the end of the projects they were proactive in their communication, upfront about costs involved, and trustworthy. They weren’t the lowest bid but one of the reasons I went with them was because of the amount of detail James provided in my estimate. I was also impressed that he didn’t use hard pressure sales tactics or try to upsell me through the process. The first project J. Martin Company did for me was my kitchen which included wallpaper removal, drywall, texture, painting and trim, backsplash, wood flooring, new sink, & cabinet hardware. Everyone who came into my home was respectful of my family, our dogs, and property. I was impressed how everyone worked together in their various roles. All of the sub contractors were on time and cleaned up very well. The kitchen was completed in about 3 weeks, which was much quicker that what I expected. A few months later I decided to call them back to do my master bathroom remodel. It involved cabinet refinishing, wall paper removal, painting, new countertops, new fixtures, plumbing, & lighting. I really appreciated the help Allie offered during the selection process. She did a great job providing suggestions to stay within budget. She even went with me to shop for the sink, faucets, countertops, lighting, etc. and the experience was extremely efficient. My bathroom was completed in about 4 weeks. The third project J. Martin Company did for me was custom bookshelves for my reading room. Their cabinetry is hands down the finest quality available. I plan to use J. Martin Company for my future remodeling needs. Each project they've done for me was completed within budget and agreed upon timeframes. I would recommend them to anyone looking to get a project done. They are very good at what they do and are a pleasure to work with.
