Calvin at HCBR Texas, Inc (Hill Country Building & Renovation) was the best to work with. After a walk around our property he sat with us and went through the process on what to expect while constructing our new outbuilding/shop addition. This was only our second bid but we knew he was the one for the job and hired him on the spot. He offered suggestions to our original design and let us take care of ordering windows, doors, and a few other things to keep costs down but on the other hand told us where to purchase the items and gave us all the contact info. Calvin would show up 3 to 4 times a week to check on the crew or just stop by with materials if needed and have a visit. We are extremely happy with the outcome and our new outbuilding/shop has become like a second home, at least that’s what my wife has told me. We love it. The completed construction matches our home and looks to have been built by the original home builder all the way to the stucco, stucco rain shelf, stone work and windows. We have a very strict HOA, which we are associated with, and Calvin is definitely on the approval list in the neighborhood. He has since done a few more shop/garage/RV storage buildings in the neighborhood and they all look great. We get nothing but compliments from out friends, neighbors and visitors.

Mr Calvin and his crew of experts did an amazing job and started off with a tear down of an old detached garage and did a complete custom ground up rebuild to my specs and made what was just a dream into a reality and now I have one of the coolest custom garages in New Braunfels all thanks to this great company and although we butted heads a few times it still came together. We hired Hill Country Building & Renovation to do a garage modification converting our 3 car garage into a 4 car garage. They did an great job and we are extremely happy with the overall job they did. There were a few minor bumps along the way, but that is construction especially when you are working on a renovation. Communication is the key with any contract, but I assumed a few times that things would be completed a certain way and when they weren't I questioned Calvin and he provide a prompt response explaining why they were installing something a certain way. I cannot blame him for anything that I did not properly communicate before or during the process. If anything was identified as needing attention or correction the took care of it right away and were so easy to work with. Calvin visited the site daily and never let a day go by with out communicating what would be going on each day/week. There were a few small items not really identified during the bid process that Calvin and his crew completed at no extra charge of any kind. We recently completed a 1600 sq foot detached garage with home gym and storage room. Calvin was wonderful to work with from start to finish. He is extremely professional and efficient. We were very impressed with his consistent communication even on the weekends. He always gave us a timeline of which crews would be onsite. We also appreciated the fact that he was always on the jobsite checking on his crews or working on things himself. He holds his crews to high standards and their workmanship showed on our project. We would definitely use him on future projects and highly recommend HCBR.

We will enjoy our new space for a long time to come.***UPDATE***Because of the drainage on our lot, we discovered during the last heavy rains that the installed drain pipe was not quite big enough to handle all the runoff. I called Calvin and he responded back in a timely manner. Within three weeks of me calling, he had evaluated the situation, had his crew come over and made the necessary adjustments. I really appreciated the fact that he responded quickly to my call and even though he was busy with other projects, found the time to address the matter. Hill Country Building and Renovation is a class act!

My Studio addition was built better than I imagined it. Calvin, his crew Marco and the men maintain their professionalism. It was like having a talented family member working in my home. We hired HCBR to construct an oversized two car garage with a second story we eventually want to turn into a living space. We interviewed multiple companies and found HCBR to be competitively priced. Calvin was friendly and very knowledgeable in answering questions we had while initiating the project and throughout the construction process. We were out of town for the first half of the build and Calvin kept us well informed of status in regards to materials, work getting completed, any delays or changes, etc. We were comfortable with his ability to get work done even when we were not onsite to supervise. As we approached deadlines, Calvin’s team was diligent in keeping his team on schedule. In particular, Luis worked long hours, often into the night, to finish work on the garage. Unexpected changes, delays, and feedback were addressed quickly and Calvin was extremely responsive via text. We are very satisfied with the level of commitment and workmanship HCBR put into our garage and would be open to using their services again. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic experience with Hill Country Building & Renovation! Calvin and his crew built a detached garage for us and also added an interior wall in our foyer. We’re extremely pleased with the way that both projects turned out. We’ve been through this type of project in the past and we know there will always be little bumps along the way, but Calvin always worked with us to make sure any issues were resolved to our satisfaction. He bent over backwards to make sure the stucco, paint, and stone colors for the detached garage would match our home. We love the way it turned out! We really appreciated the fact that Calvin came to the site every single day that someone was here working, that he was great about keeping lines of communication flowing so we always knew what to expect, and that he was always responsive to phone calls or texts. He also offered advice and options when we asked - it was his idea to slightly recess the foyer wall we added to give us a little more space for the cabinet and to help match the look of some columns we have in that area. After getting 3 quotes for the addition of a mother-in-law suite to our home we chose Hill Country Building and Renovations. They provided the only detailed quote of what they would be responsible for and we would be responsible for allowing us to plan ahead. This gave us the flexibility to choose finishings we liked. Calvin and his crews were easy to work with and stayed in constant contact with us. They did Concrete, plumbing, electrical, framing, insulation, sheet rock, texturing, carpeting, tile, back splash, flooring and carpeting and installed all of the fixtures we selected without a hitch. They completed the job to our satisfaction in the desired time 90 days. We highly recommend them for any project you may have and hope to have them back to renovate our decking in the coming year.

We hired Hill Country Building and Renovations (HCBR), Calvin Paulsen, on Feb 14th for a 4 month remodel project to our lakehouse. We wanted to add a second story to our existing 1970s house. Calvin discussed with us how the process would go, since we were unsure what steps to take in the beginning. He explained a structural engineer would come out and look at the existing slab and confirm it could support the 2nd story. He told us he would give us a lump sum bid with itemized line items. We sat down and reviewed the detailed bid together and he answered all our questions in as much detail as we wanted.They were able to demolish the existing bedroom on the 2nd floor and the roof in one week (he had scheduled 2 weeks for demo) and the upper floor sealed in before the rain hit (all in 2 weeks). The builder has since put up the walls, decked the roof, wrapped with Tyvek and sealed the roof with underlayment. All this has been very quick and ahead of schedule, to our amazement.Within a week, he had all the electrical, HVAC and plumbing done, the insulation installed and drywall has started.In addition to having all the materials delivered to site in a timely fashion, he has been able to schedule his subcontractors (many times several on site at one time) to complete their task(s) in a timely fashion.He even had his crew pour the concrete piers for the double deck and new carport during this period.We have been extremely happy with the progress and the dedication Calvin and his crew shows. Since we don’t live at the lake full-time, he sends us daily pictures and updates. Calvin is also very responsive to our texts, emails and phone calls. He’s a pleasure to work with and would recommend HCBR to anyone.We are halfway through the project and ahead of schedule. Can’t wait to see the final project.Sincerely,Pam & Jib Schutt

Hill Country Building & Renovation did an outstanding job creating a 40’ wide by 60’ long by 18’ tall sidewall steel building with a 10’ awning on one side. From signed contract to finished project was less than 90 days. My wife and I are very pleased with the finished product. They produced a building that was exactly what I had envisioned. What a joy to work with a good and honest contractor. I highly recommend them for your next project.
