Our home was built on a 42” grade. The pad was built by a contractor that had never built a house pad. That’s what he told me. He told me he did not know how big Tilson wanted it. I assumed he contacted Tilson. I never saw Tilson visit while he was building the pad. Pad was not built to speck. It’s is suppose to extent 10 feet out from the foundation. It is 7 feet. We paid extra $5,000 for extra peers to prevent movement. Foundation is moving and cracking causing the sheet rock on the walls and ceiling to crack. Interior of our home is falling apart. Unable to open and lock doors. Huge cracks can be seen under vinyl and tile floor across entire length of home. Exteriors rock cracking from foundation to roof. Tilson blames us. Says we did not water the foundation right. Why didn’t Tilson water during construction? We have gone back and forth with Tilson on the amount to water. They say water, then don’t water. It is just getting worse. It seems the more we water the more movement we see. Soil is eroding under our foundation.While I’m at it, poor quality paint, cabinets, ceiling on patio porch falling through nails, nail joist in attic separating, hump in roof. The images are only just a few. Very sad experience all around. We were so excited when we signed to begin construction. Buried both my parents and my brother the during the building process. The year of and a couple years after signing was very hard. Way too much anxiety. The warranty they offer protects Tilson not you the homeowner.

My 78 year old father, who lost his home in Hurricane Harvey and never quite got back to where he wanted to be, needed a small home to live in independently, could afford to build, and could be professional built near our property so he could be close to family. Tilson (in Katy) came through 100%. His home is now complete and he is very happy. The house is solid, energy efficient, and has some great home features (radiant barriers, mold resistant drywall, water/moisture control channeling, energy and water efficient features). Thank you!

This was our second home built with Tilson. We are extremely pleased with the entire team. Our sales rep, Jessica was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, professional yet not pushy. She was always available to answer our questions and to educate us. Our builder, Covey was extremely knowledgeable as well and friendly. Home BuildingThe initial process, choosing a plan, interior & exterior elements was awesome. The entire staff was extremely helpful, knowledgeable, available and professional.The building process; however, was a completely different experience. The builder's time and availability was little to none. The workers were definitely not craftsmen and showed little to no experience in their respective fields. Nothing is square in our home the foyer & bedroom openings do not line up. We requested a pocket door for our laundry room in the beginning and it could not be installed properly, so we had to go with a regular door. They light switch had to be moved and it is very difficult to get in our freezer because you have to close the laundry room door to open the freezer.These are just a few of the problems. If you choose Tilson to build your home be ready to be at your job site every day monitoring everything. Be ready for delays. It took eleven months to build a house just a little over 1800 square feet and we had good weather.

Tilson started out great, but, even making allowences for the industry's struggles, the construction process took a YEAR longer than the estimate. They were unresponsive to our needs and uncaring as to our situation. There seemed to be no recourse if there is a problem during the building process. Although we have been moved into our home for a month now, there are still punch list items not finished and I am disappointed as to the quality of some of the trades' work. We would like to be done with this and just live in our home, but it's like it's being held hostage by the whims of the workers. I understand the construction industry has suffered in the last few years, but the lack of communication and customer service has no excuse. Things we changed in the floor plan, and watched our sales representative draw on the plans, did not end up in the plan. They had to be added in after the start of the build. Some of the workers did not complete the work they were doing to code and it had to be ripped out and redone. So glad we went to check on things at least twice a week. If you use this company, be sure you have a list of everything you change and make sure it is checked off at every part of the construction. Our house is lovely, but it was struggle to get it completed the way we wanted. I won't use them again and won't recommend them.Services: Custom home design, Home building

The planning process while pleasant is terribly inefficient, every interaction puts you back at the end of the line. It took TWO years to build a 2600 sq.ft. home that was promised to be done in 7 months. No proactive communications, phone calls poorly returned. Construction crew deported back to Mexico and no one called us for months. New construction crew slept at the site, showered in their underwear using the neighbors water hose in our back yard. No work done for months on in. No one looking out for the home buyer who is now paying double the interest rate. No apology, no explanations, no concern.Service: Home building

We knew the moment we stepped into a Tilson model home that we were going to build with them. Their homes are beautiful, well built, and super appealing to the eye. Once you meet their sales representatives you will fall in love even more. Luckey Sloan and Amy Williams are absolutely AMAZING ladies. Not only did they do their jobs perfectly they genuinely CARED about me and my family and cheered us on the whole way. Never failing to tell us how happy they were for us to be getting our dream home. Was every single step perfect, No it wasn’t. There wasn’t anything that happened though that Tilson did not take care of immediately or as soon as possible. All of the good outweighs and overshadows any bad stuff that happened. We have a beautiful home that is an answer to a prayer that we have prayed for many years. Tilson was an unbelievable find. I had never heard of Tilson until I began hunting for a builder. There was NO negative reviews anywhere on Tilson. There are many videos on YouTube about Tilson and how they do things. I started with the Sales department and have been amazed every step of the way. Ross Riggs was incredibly patient and professional and we constantly changed our minds about the design of the inside and outside of our home. The builder, Logan Pryor was amazing. He communicated with us a couple times a week to give status of the build and what was scheduled to come. He had it down to a science. Tilson does not just follow the standard, they exceed it at every stage of construction. I highly recommend this builder to anyone who is thinking about building their dream home.

Do not use Tilson to build your new home! Worst experience ever. Front and back end staff were friendly and helpful. The builder was incompetent and allowed many mistakes and errors throughout the process. Only use Tilson if you can read construction plans and understand the construction process and are capable of inspecting and/or supervising the build yourself. Be prepared to pickup trash daily and clean your brand new house before you can move in, especially the toilets. Set up your own security cameras as your build site becomes a target for thieves. Uncaring tradesmen give permission to random people who stop to pilfer through trash pile for scrap materials. Trash bin is not emptied until the end of the build process. Had to request a porta-potty after finding used toilet paper in yard. Builder said I had to locate a company as he couldnt find one. Took 13 months from date of contract signing to close date. All punch list items identified in final walk trough were not corrected by closing. Still waiting a door knob that was damaged 2 days before close to be delivered. I could go on forever...I tell anyone considering building to NOT use Tilson.

We were recommend to Tilson by two separate family members who built with them. They had their minor issues, but who doesn’t building a home? We checked online and found some fairly damning reviews but chalked it up to “that wouldn’t happen to us”, oh, but it did.First, the sales counselor, while she was an absolute sweetheart, that only goes so far. She had issues with quoting certain items, made some fairly costly errors and left out information in error. None of this was intentional I should say, but, after more than 30 years at Tilson, one would assume that she has it down fairly well. There was more than once that we had to request to speak with her supervisor in order to get a clear answer.Now, let’s get to the meat and potatoes. First off, when they were scheduled to start we were getting more than usual rain which delayed the foundation pour. There was no formal site meeting as was described in their process. We literally didn’t know our foundation was being poured until the day of. This is a seemingly important step for a family that is building a new home. We met our construction superintendent that day as well and he was a very courteous and professional individual. I felt somewhat at ease, although apprehensive, due to the lack of communication this early in the process.Most of the complaints are with the finish craftsmanship of the home. The cabinets are ABSOLUTE junk. If you are wanting painted cabinets, look elsewhere or stick with stain grade cabinets. The trim on the cabinets is terrible with gaps and cracks in numerous places. The crown on the cabinets had such a large gap that instead of removing and refitting, they caulked a larger than 1/4” gap. It’s still there. They performed some touch ups but used a non-matching paint so you can see the touch ups. When they installed electrical in the island, they cracked the face frames of the cabinets and used sparkling to try and fill it. I showed this to the superintendent multiple times and it was never fixed properly. The shoe mouldings don’t match the rest of the house around the cabinets. There are terrible gaps where the individual units meet. Just downright terrible work. And yes, I can do better, but I payed a large sum of money for them to do it.The flooring was poorly done. We opted for vinyl flooring due to longevity and our lifestyle (kids, animals, etc). When they installed the shoe moulding, in numerous areas, it didn’t cover the concrete. You could see the slab where the flooring didn’t run all the way to the baseboard. You want to know how they fixed it? Caulk. One area was over a 1/2” and they caulked it.Next was the kids shower. I can’t tell you how many times I had to call the superintendent and tell him how piss poor his tile setters were. Tiles falling off, cracked, cut crooked. Ray Charles could have done better. The master shower was poorly done, and still is. I have water standing in the corners due to back pitch that the superintendent identified and then lied to me when he said he fixed it.The communication was horrendous with our superintendent. He is supposed to be their 'top guy'. We didn’t know things were happening unless we asked or pitched a fit. The VP of construction stated all of our grievances would be addressed. I had a list of over 100 items that needed addressed. They didn’t even hit half of them. There were delays in materials (completely understandable due to COVID) but the lack of communication and service is inexcusable. I wish I had more room to keep going. In the end, I just gave up. I run a business and didn’t have the time to oversee every detail and our living situation was rather inconvenient at the time. We settled and now I am fixing it all myself. There is so much to cover but Google only allows so many characters. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. I am building a website dedicated to showcasing the poor quality of their home build and will be promoting it on social media for everyone to see.BEWAREServices: Project management, Custom home design

The construction took forever, they were very unresponsive to concerns. The Management couldn’t care less about the situation. We signed December of 2020 and didn’t close until July of 22. Still have number of pending items from closing disclosure and they are not getting addressed. They always have some kind of excuse. Tilson Homes in Boerne TX built our dream home. They did a fantastic job from the beginning all the way through to closing. Chauncy was the best to work with and kept us up to date on the process and sending pictures of the progress, not that we were not at the house every weekend. If there was something that needed to be addressed, Chauncy fixed it. Good quality home.

Sales office (not design center: lack of knowledge of colors/products) was a great experience. for the building: Lack of communication and attention to detail. Too many issues since move in. Already had to contact warranty services less then 45 days in the home. Trash in the yard during construction even though there was a fenced in area. Poor quality of workmanship for the drywall and paint. No pride in the contractor's work. We, as a consumer, should not have been the ones to point these things out. GC needs to be more present.

The office staff in San Marcos was incredible. I would have given them 5 stars, but the experience we had with the builder was horrible. Multiple issues, failure to communicate in a timely manner, cabinets being left outside during a storm (which pushed our closing date back 2 months), beer bottles being left all around our house during construction, cleanliness of construction site was unacceptable, and just a general non caring attitude.

We were under contract and right after we signed Tilson hit us with $17,500 for DIRT work. It exceeded our loan amount which forced us to back out. They placed a lien on our land while we were still negotiating a price to settle on. I do not recommend going with Tilson Homes they told us what we wanted to hear to get us to sign and then we were backed in a corner and to get out of our loan it was $4000. We went with UBH and couldn’t be happier.
