KP and his team were kind, honest, and quick to help! After a sudden reschedule on their parts, they were able to fit me in at an earlier time that worked well with my schedule. Not to mention they are friendly, especially if you have a dog. I would recommend them 100%!Services: Chimney inspections, Chimney cleaning

I called KP to consult about having a new liner installed for my wood burning stove. He was extremely informative and honest about what approach I should take to remedy the issue. Unfortunately I wasn't able to hire him to do the job but he gave me other resources to inquire with. Thanks KP!

KP saved our bacon. We are looking into buying a house in Vermont and we live in California. We sent him some pictures of the roof and chimney, which were a mess.. He gave us great advice on how to move forward. Long story, short, without his advice, we would not have known how to proceed in our negotiations and now we are on, what we think, is the right track. He did this for free over the phone. Thanks again, KP.

We had to have our chimney cleaned and inspected in order to sell our house. Chimney Smith was the only company we called that could fit us in within the 2-3 week time frame set by our buyer's bank and the closing date. KP with Chimney Smith agreed to do the cleaning on Fri. May 24 in the morning, to be able to get the bank a paid invoice a week before our June 5th closing. He was aware that it was a priority, with a closing of a house sale contingent on his work. Because of the tight turnaround on time and that we were no longer living on site and the need for a paid invoice, I sent him a check a few days early. We didn't hear from him on the 24th, then it was the long weekend (Memorial Day). By Tues. or Wed. my husband called and left a voice mail, asking if he had indeed done the cleaning and inspection, and reminding him that our house closing date was contingent on this, and we really needed him to email or text us a paid invoice. After a couple voice mails and a couple of text messages, we'd still heard nothing. I could tell from my bank statement that he had gone ahead and cashed my check for $202! Days went by with no reply until finally the bank and all the lawyers and our sellers were realizing we'd have to push the closing date back. We were forced to schedule other chimney sweeps / inspectors, not knowing if he had or hadn't done the work a week earlier as he was supposed to. We scheduled others just as back-up but no one was available in time for us to still close on time. Finally, when my husband emailed him and mentioned that since he'd cashed our check but seemingly had not done the work, and seemed to have no intention of communicating with us, that we'd need to take him to Small Claims Court. Finally, 9 days after he was supposed to do the work, this email got him to email and then call us back. He did fit us in for the work after this correspondence. Upon inspection, he proposed that the chimney needed $6000 worth of work and that half of it needed to get rebuilt. In his written estimate he said it needed $5600 worth of labor. In person he told my husband that was two guys working about three days. If you do the math for that, it works out to be two guys working three 8 hour days, at $116 as their hourly rate each! (That's not counting materials.). The buyers and the bank would not move forward with the sale until we figured things out about the chimney. But everyone involved--the buyers, their real estate agent, our real estate agent--all agreed that this was an absurd estimate for a very solid chimney. We had to move the closing date back and in the meantime, we sought out a 2nd and 3rd opinion. These local, certified chimney inspectors came in at $225 and $250 as their estimates for the work that needed to happen on our chimney for it to meet inspection. Having to push back our closing date incurred further expense. Our experience with Chimney Smith showed extreme lack of professionalism on many levels, and a vastly different opinion than two other, independent inspectors. And his rate of $116/hour is very high, or he was just trying to get us back for calling him out. Luckily, we were able to reschedule to within a week of our original date, but sometimes it needs to be postponed 3-4 weeks until there's an opening in everyone's schedule!

K.P. just finished cleaning our wood stove, having done this for us for a few years now. He is very pleasant to deal with, very knowledgeable (and able to explain things in easily understandable terms,) very prompt, and reasonably priced. He is what traditional Vermont is all about.
