Darrell and his staff are the ultimate professions. We researched several home builders in the Tappahannock VA area to build a seasonal home, and decided on Darrell mainly on the personal conversation we had with what turned out to our next door neighbor, he was very pleased with his home and all the professional tradesmen. When we approached him one day while he was working in his yard, he couldn't have been more excited to show us all throughout his home and we were able to see the workmanship of the home. We can't wait until someone comes by our home and ask question about the builder so we can tell them what a great experience we had working with Darrell and staff to build what will some day become our forever home.

Darrell and his team are amazing! I spoke with several other builders before Darrell and they weren’t necessarily accommodating but Darrell listened and made me feel like I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable. I had multiple points of contact throughout the entire process and anything that I wanted to change or any questions I had etc. weren’t an issue at all; they were very responsive and transparent. Darrell built my home in 2011. I've had absolutely no issues with my home. Darrell is a perfectionist and it shows in his work. He and his subcontractors care about the quality of their work. They all treated me very respectfully too. My questions were answered timely. Phone calls, texts and emails were also answered promptly. My home is a smaller home, but the quality inside and out beats the quality of much bigger and much more expensive homes constructed by other builders. Mr. Kellum is an honest man who lives by his words and his contractors are an extension of his hand. The design build process is streamlined and even includes 3d of the inside and out. All plans are fully customizable to fit your needs and budget. I highly recommend them as your builder for your first or next home!

We consider ourselves lucky to have met with Darrell Kellum. We had a meeting in the area with another builder that wouldn't listen to our needs. We then accidentally met Darrell while looking at one of his houses under construction. He helped us pick off the perfect lot and design our house for our needs and my husbands garage. His construction team were very professional and finished our house with great craftsmanship. Darrell did not stop being there for us after closing he made sure our short little year end punch list got taken care of in a timely manner. If you are looking for a builder you can TRUST then Darrell is the guy. My wife and I sat down with multiple builders when deciding to build our home. After meeting with Darrell and his team our minds were made up. He was the first one not dressed in a suit trying to sell us. Darrell not only made us feel comfortable with this life changing decision but was one of the few builders that used the same contractors for every home. This ensures the constant quality in every home he builds. From the start Darrell was very transparent with pricing, materials, and details of the process. Throughout the whole building process Darrell was always in constant communication and on top of things. His contractors all knew his expectations and it showed through their work. Before our 1 year follow up with Darrell, I hired a third party inspector to come check things out. After finding ZERO issues, the inspector said "I have been to many new houses, and whoever built this one did a great job". Going on a little over 2 years now and we couldn't be happier. I would recommend him to anyone in the area looking to build or remodel.

We couldn't have picked a better person or builder to build our home. From the first meeting to closing Darrell was right there making sure his team got it done. He made the decisions easy because he is so laid back. When we made changes on the back door to a window it was no problem the framer just went back and made the change. Darrell, we wish we could give you more than a 1 star rating. The reasons we cannot are well known and documented to you.We moved into our beautiful new home on a golf course in Tappahannock on July 10, 2017. We looked forward to living here as we worked 50 years to achieve our dream home. However, shortly after moving in we began to get sick. The health conditions we experienced included: waking every morning with throbbing headaches and nosebleeds, extreme fatigue, dizziness, whole body joint pains and more. We moved in relatively healthy for our ages and could not figure out what caused our decline. We tried to put it down to our ages, but it became obvious quickly it was much more than just old age.We were advised to contract with a certified Home Inspector to find possible answers with health issues. On. October 28, 2017 we had a thorough home inspection conducted. Findings were shocking. The first item of the 35 page report with pictures was copious amounts of mold on floor joists. Thus allergies, thus mold sickness. All other deficiencies discovered during home inspection were minor and could not be related to our health decline.We immediately advised you (DKI) that day with an ALL CAPS TEXT of the serious issue just discovered. Your immediate response was a telephone call to my wife. She handed her phone to me as you had never called her before. You were very disrepectful and angry to me. You questioned my right to have a home inspector inspect your house. We paid you $261k in cash, which made it OUR house. After this, you basically stopped all communication and efforts to correct deficiencies. You offered very little assistance with the mold issue. It was left up to us to get the mold remediated so we could start to regain our health. Tomorrow, 1/28/2018, marks 3 monthsand you still have not come to our house to see for yourself. Instead you lawyered up so we are unable to communicate telephonically with you during our time of remaining warranty issues. Very unprofessional.Hope this review is helpful to educate next buyer.
