We highly recommend Dave Hepler of Helper Homes for future prospective homeowners seeking to build a custom home. Working closely with Dave and his team starting in 2021 we presented him with land we had found along with house plans. Building a new home requires motivation, energy and knowing what we envisioned for our new downsized forever home.Hepler homes and all of Dave’s contractors with Tim from Carter Lumber, Mike with Davenport, Ed at Midsouth Building Supply, and the Floor Shop of Winchester, John at Frederick Block and Joe Hammer the finishing carpenter became our new team to bring this vision to a reality.Dave Hepler and his crew met and exceeded our home details by making sure everything requested was done professionally.The pandemic and post pandemic period in which this house was built required Dave’s part adapting to delays, schedule changes and accommodating unforeseen conditions to work with.Communication throughout the whole process was conducted through Co-construct platform and frequent phone calls or meetings to stay informed. This helped us stay within a budget in spite of the increases in building costs.We highly recommend Dave Hepler as a builder. He is a man of his word and his reputation in the trades followed him everywhere we met. Thank you, Dave. Our home is now complete October 2023. After a year of moving in and getting settled we are delighted with our new home. We are grateful for you and your team.

Dave Hepler came to the rescue of our wonderful clients when their original builder went dark on them! Dave and his Team were great to work with. The home was less than 1/2 complete when Hepler Homes came into the picture. Dave and his Team estimated what needed to be done and completed the home in 3 months time...to include correcting issues created by the other builder. Dave Hepler of Hepler Homes builds a beautiful home, to be sure. He also does great renovations, additions and repairs. I have had my real estate license since 2004 and have gone through numerous home inspections with my clients. When I need solid repairs done in a timely manner I call Dave. His team works cleanly, efficiently and meticulously and they have done services such as new electric panels, replaced entire exterior walls, new roofs, not to mention anything else we have needed. Dave also works really well with other professionals in the business such as structural engineers and inspectors. Overall, I have an excellent relationship with Hepler Homes and Dave Hepler personally. I was building while still living in Wisconsin. Dave was very helpful in the material and color selection process, which was done mostly over the phone. The reason I am rating Hepler 4 instead of 5 stars is because dealing directly with a couple of his recommended sub contractors and vendors proved to be a somewhat frustrating experience. Otherwise, I am a happy camper, and would recommend Dave for another custom or semi-custom home project.

From the initial consult to the final walk-through, and continuing through the one-year warranty period, HH has been consistently accessible, professional, and competent. 3 years later and still helps me out!! Called Dave this morning about a window and he reminded me (so much for my memory) he had fixed it (last year we messed it up trying to clean it and couldn't get it realigned and the wind blew it in--Dave came out the next day and put it back together--for free). I also remember 3-4 months after we moved in and a nasty wind blew off some of my shingles--I was out surveying the damage and up drives Dave to take care of everything. Lastly we had a concrete issue he worked with us for over 2 years to resolve--he never questioned us just kept working to fix it. We're thrilled with our home and grateful we met Dave so he could build it for us.

Communication was a big issue for me. We were not provided any kind of sequencing of events, and things like a cold weather limitation on paving the driveway should have been shared at the beginning, since my assumption is this was not his first rodeo. The PM for construction was absent much of the time and his attention to detail was sorely lacking. If not for my husband popping in and catching the mistakes early, I would have had to look at them for several years. Easily avoided items. Twice we had to chase down vendors for Hepler's crew to check on status because when we spoke to him 'he didn't know'. There were some vendors that were lacking, in a major way, any degree of customer service reliability, like Middletown shelving - they just sucked. doorknobs installed crooked, unresponsive then when they did respond, got nothing but excuses, and the baseline closet shelving design was communicated in a very deceiving manner, which then provoked a redesign, since the cost was astronomical.Outside of the communication challenge, and the roof shingles (weather limitation) had to be redone for a good portion of the roof because they didn't adhere properly - again, should have been communicated as a risk, but wasn't, our experience when talking to Hepler was congenial and he was responsive to our inquiries. Overall, satisfied with our home.

I love that Dave will do anything to help you get into the home of your dreams. He reminded me that a custom home doesn't always have to be big and expensive and I loved that! He wants to give you what you want in an affordable way. He is detail oriented and always a professional, not to mention...his homes are beautiful! I would highly recommend Dave!!

Not only were they able to help me find the location, but they were able to work with me to help me pick out the house I wanted as well as all the finishing touches. Absolute worst. To make it short, we turned Hepler into DPOR (Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulations), who cited him with 7 violations. Five of these were for the use of unlicensed sub contractors. Three years into our "custom" home and we are still spending money correcting horrible workmanship. Hepler is NOT a contractor but a manager. He manages his money.
