Went on a road trip to the Rocky states in mid March. Someone from a museum in Cheyenne told me this would be a good spot to visit. They weren’t lying, food tasted awesome and the people who worked there were very friendly. It also had an awesome oldish atmosphere and a museum of products from the 1900s.If you’re on a road trip and happen to cross by Chugwater, give this place a visit!

One word.....Wow! They have done a great job with this place. We have been here in the past doing some video on one of the ranches in the area. We decided to come back to plan our next excursion and grabbed some food at the Soda Fountain. I had one of the best burgers I've ever had along with awesome fries and a cup of the famous Chugwater Chili. What a great little town with a lot of history and cool people with some interesting stories. Until next time, Cheers!

This place is good! Great little shop for an old fashioned soda and a cheeseburger. They look like they’ve got great malts and shakes, but I wasn’t in the mood for thaw. Definitely worth a stop in!

Solid Wyoming Stop! I’ve been driving past here for many, MANY years… I never found the time or need to stop… I WAS WRONG. This is one of the best burgers I’ve had in Wyoming, and the Chili lives up to the hype. Do yourself a favor, and check this spot out.

Amazing burger and the milkshake is a must! Never had a better huckleberry milkshake. The place is super clean and adorable. Staff were amazing even on a busy holiday weekend. Only downside is that the fries are cooked with vegetable oil so don’t eat those. They’re toxic.

Chili for breakfast? Do it!!!! It’s just perfect. The thick malt shakes and huckleberry soda were delicious, too. The owner was friendly, caring and warm and this added to our wonderful experience here.

Worth the stop! Charming old building and friendly people working and visiting there. They had a shaded patio to sit on too. The shakes are marvelous with so many options to choose from! We even got a cup of ice cream for our Doggo! Kinda makes me wanna return during chili season to make a day of it and have lunch at the cafe next door!

We were on a road trip that took us through Chugwater. The only reason I have heard of this place was because of the Chugwater Chili that I found online once when looking for the best chili season mix. Since we were passing through the area decided to stop on for the chili, not knowing until we got there that the folks that make the chili mix are different from the soda fountain. I got the chili dog, that was not bad. The shakes were pretty good and they have the old school shake mixers that I have not seen since I was a kid. Pretty cool place to stop into if you are passing through.

These milkshakes bring all of Chugwater to the yard! No honestly it was so busy, which is great! The staff was working tirelessly and I didn't mind waiting as I explored the really spacious store. I loved the local cookies, soaps, candies, books and appearl options. Even grabbed a SMORES COOKIE which was still soft and no too sweet! You can really tell it's the heart of the town.Parking: Litterally a giant dirt lot to the left off the highway. Can't get any better.Kid-friendliness: Kids love it here! Lots of them enjoying milkshakes.

Not sanitary at all. There were so many flies everywhere, including on the ice cream tub, and they made no effort to remove them. The flies even accompany you back to your car. The workers weren't wearing any hairnets or gloves. It was supposed to be "authentic", but not dirty, run-down, and overpriced. It smelled bad and there weren't many places to sit. Our order took very long. The milkshakes were average, and it literally tasted like melted ice cream in a cup-- nothing special. The chocolate doesn't have a strong chocolate taste. We ordered a chocolate, peanut butter, and french vanilla milkshake. Out of the three we ordered, vanilla was the best. We watched them make lemonade for a different order, and it was just water, powder, and ice. Would not recommend and we definitely aren't coming back.

Travelling from UK. Saw this place on google maps when I was planning my road trip round Wyoming and Colorado and knew immediately I wanted to experience a true piece of small town America.Food was exceptional and my Chocolate Malt was probably the nicest drink I've ever had in a diner.Staff were super friendly - bought a couple of t-shirts as we loved this place so much. Was the foodie highlight of our entire trip.

AMAZING. Stopped quick on a road trip and the food was stellar (used spices from the local spice company in town), soda was awesome too. Had some cute nostalgic toys and things for sale. VERY CLEAN and the staff was super nice. Seemed like lots of locals came there as well.

We have been going there for generations and loved it. We stopped in today with my mother and my grandson just to build some memories like I had with my grandfather. The service was slow but understandable due to staffing issues. The strawberry malt was not even close to as good as they used to be. It was watery and tasteless. When we asked the server, she chalked it up to the "ice cream being soft, today." She could have, at the very least, asked if she could add some more ice cream or offered to do a remake for the $7.00 I paid. Very disappointed...Photo from a 10min old malt that already separated.

If you're looking for a sugar fix and a piece of WY history (oldest soda machine in WY), this is the place for you! It's a destination you won't want to miss. You can get a soda water with one of the unique flavors, or get an ice-cream shake, malt, float or an icecream soda! There is also a food menu.Take a magnet or a t-shirt as a suvenir (I did). This is within driving distance from Northern Colorado, a quick daytrip for the weekend.

Great service but unfortunately not enough vegan or vegetarian or gluten free options so I couldn’t eat much (just some fries)Would have loved to support more if they had some vegan dairy free shakes or a veggie burger or something.Vegetarian options: Not really any, nor are they gluten free friendly.Dietary restrictions: Not many options nor are they gluten friendly.

A truly wonderful experience, the staff was kind and welcoming and the food was incredible!! I can easily say it's the best place to stop for food in over 100 miles (better than anywhere in Cheyenne too!) It is absolutely worth making a detour for!

August 2019: There are few places where you can still get a genuine chocolate malted milk shake made with real ice cream and this is one of them. We stopped here for a shake while traveling on I-25 and were not disappointed. Check it out for an authentic, one-of-a-kind, small-town experience.June 2022: Visited here again and found the remodeled atmosphere to me lacking in character, compared to how it used to be. Just saying!

We Googled things to do near Cheyenne Wyoming and learned about the Chugwater Soda Fountain in Chugwater, WY. The ambiance alone is worth the drive with a throwback to the old days. They hand make sodas like they did back in 1914 when this place originally opened to the public. You can grab normal American fare to eat, old fashioned sodas and milkshakes and several different kinds of desserts.Today they had chocolate chip cookies, double chocolate cookies and brownies with an Andes mint topping. This is a fun stop at Chugwater Soda Fountain next time you find yourself road tripping through southern Wyoming.
